Name: Reina Amenomori
Nickname: ...That would be assuming she had friends IRL; her online handle is KiriShika-chan
Gender/Pronoun: She/her
Age: 15
Birthday: January 23, 2011
Sign: Aquarius
Gemstone: Moonstone
Blood Type: A
Fav. Food: Boba tea
Hated Food: Licorice
School/Occupation: Meadowview High School
Hobbies:
Music Reina has loved music ever since before she can remember, first listening to her mother play, then to other people playing what her mother composed, and then, finally, learning how to play music herself! She's proficient in guitar and shamisen (specifically the tsugaru jamisen tradition), and can sing pretty well, too. Favorite genres are J-rock, folk rock, and some of the softer forms of metal; favorite bands right now include SCANDAL and Wagakki Band. When life has gotten tough for her, music has always been there for her. She's even starting writing some music of her own, though she hasn't shared it with anyone else yet.... While living with her maternal relatives, she has been able to practice music, but that time is in stolen moments, or when her grandmother insists Reina play the shamisen for her in an icy silence.
Kyudo As a result of playing games, Reina got curious about trying archery, specifically in the form of kyudo, and found it a good way to get away from everything that stresses her out. The rest of the world just kind of goes away in the moment of herself, the bow, the arrow, the target, and the wind. While her race and appearance made her an unpopular addition to her middle school kyudo team, she still managed to become one of the team aces. Due to a history of getting harassed and bullied, she continues to practice alone in secluded places, deliberately aiming for difficult targets, to continue to grow, even if no one else will help her.... Kyudo is something Reina's been able to continue since moving in with her maternal relatives, as her grandmother tersely indicated it was an appropriate activity for a young lady.
JRPGs Reina loves playing JRPGs, has ever since she was old enough to play games on the console! First game that she can really remember latching onto was Pokemon Ultra Moon on her dad's Nintendo 3DS, before she moved on to the older Pokemon games that she could play on the 3DS that her dad gave her for her 7th birthday. It's another good way to unwind, particularly when she wants a different kind of challenge; the grindy aspect of the games are also a good way to get her mind off everything that troubles her. Plus, the stories are so gooooood. Well. Maybe not Pokemon's stories. But Pokemon is cute. And one of her first loves. So Pokemon gets to stay on the same shelf as the better written titles. Unfortunately, she has not had access to a console since moving in with her maternal relatives; her paternal relatives might prove far more open to the idea of her owning a console.
Anime and Manga Reina enjoys reading manga and catching anime when she can. Before her father died, she had a subscription to a couple different magazines, and read avidly from her parents' collection of older manga, too. Anime was something she'd do with her parents after homework and before bed, a little ritual she enjoyed with her father in particular; then, as now, the stories were another escape from the bigotry she dealt with in the outside world, places where ethnicity mattered a lot less to people. In an ideal universe, she'd have a personal subscription to the magazines she likes the most, and would have time set aside to watch her anime without interference.
Virtues:
Even-Handed Reina treats the people around her pretty evenly, letting neither grudges nor favoritism impact how she interacts with people. Even if a person is her enemy, if they ask for help she can give, she gives it; even if a person she's close to has done something wrong, she will do what she can to make sure that justice in some form occurs. After all, everyone is born, lives, dies, and has broadly the same types of needs, even if they get fulfilled in different ways. That said, her even-handedness does have some limits, particularly if a person has wronged her; those people will still get a cold politeness, but not much more than that cold politeness.
Responsible Reina is a pretty responsible person. She takes care of what she needs to in good time, she generally takes on whatever she's asked to do with little comment, and she's used to doing a lot of things for herself, whether it be cooking or cleaning or anything else. She had to take care of herself a lot of evenings, back when her parents were still alive, as they sometimes worked quite late, and she didn't want her parents to worry about her well-being.
Nurturing Reina's also pretty good at taking care of others. Back when she had access to FFXIV, she would keep an eye out for newbie players, help them through the early phases of the game; she couldn't keep pets, but, when she saw kittens and puppies left out in the elements, if she could get her hands on anything to help them out, she'd try to improve their circumstances, and she'd do the same for children, if they didn't push her away for not looking Japanese. Fundamentally, Reina likes seeing young and/or inexperienced individuals grow and change to be able to face the challenges of the world around them, whether on their own feet, or with the support of true companions, and will be one of the first people to reach out to such individuals.
Flaws:
Lonely Being very visibly only half Japanese in Japan meant Reina didn't have a lot of friends growing up. Oh, she had online friends, mostly in the context of online gaming, and she had her parents, but those were her core relationships when she was younger. Losing her father, her online gaming access, and now her mother, have had a terrible impact on an already very lonely girl. Reina has increasingly lost the people who she felt would stand by her no matter what, it hurts, and her only recourse has been to increasingly isolate herself from other people, even if it worsens the core sentiment. If she's going to have relationships with people who tell her they're going to stick around, she wants them to either do everything they can to follow through, or just go away so she doesn't get hurt again.
Distrustful Reina doesn't trust a lot of people. The world around her in Japan hasn't been particularly kind to her, due to her ancestry, and it can be very difficult for her to believe that people who tell her nice things about her aren't either lying, or about to insult or hurt her. The end result is that Reina tends to assume that compliments directed at her aren't real, or that help offered to her is by default disingenuous. Or comes with a catch. After all, it's being offered to Reina, of all people....
Hates to Lose Reina, as much as she's now used to losing the things that matter most to her, hates losing, whether in a game, or in a competition. She'll go back, grind more, practice more, train harder, do what's necessary to not lose next time. However, in certain things, if such effort leads nowhere, she'll retreat, and pick a battle that's more winnable, instead of sticking with a fight she's doomed to lose, such as in the probable event of a fight over her grandmother's inheritance. While these attitudes can help her succeed at some things, it can cause her to come across as overcompetitive and petulant, and may cause her to completely give up on something she may want, simply because she does not think there will ever be a path to victory.
PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION
Eyes: Large and dreamy, pale mint at the base melting into a pale periwinkle blue at the top of the irises, with long lashes
Hair: Long silvery hair that falls in waves, with white-gold streaks, like sunbeams through the rain or mist; mostly worn up in a ponytail with a silver barrette set with moonstones; bangs parted over the left side of her forehead in ascending length, from eyebrow length to jaw length
Face: Delicate Japanese features with a small, full mouth
Skin Tone: Cool, dark shade of brown, if possible
Body Type: A little short, but very much in shape for archery; fairly curvy for her build, particularly in the bust
Clothes: Generally cooler, muted (or monochrome) tones, favoring Japanese street fashions...which she hasn't been able to get a hold of since her father passed; mostly owns a very worn out combination of athletic wear, hand-me-downs from scornful maternal relatives, and her scrupulously cared for school uniform from Japan, which was too nice a uniform to get rid of; for preference, a complex admixture of leather, lace, ribbons, and the periodic tasteful bit of brocade, generally in cool/soft/subtle tones
Piercings: Has one piercing in each earlobe, made before her father passed (her mother's family would never have permitted it)

Senshi: Sailor Sadalmelik, Senshi of Condensation
Attacks: These are your senshi's abilities and should correspond to your senshi's sphere. Senshi unlock a new magical ability to use in battle as they rank up ICly! Chibi Senshi should have weaker versions of the standard magic, or should have magic that backfires. Corrupted Senshi are allowed to have ‘darker’ magic. ‘Late Blooming Senshi’ ages 21-27 should have magic written the same as other standard Senshi but should have IC effects or erratic magic. More information can be found in the tips below! Senshi magic should be written to have a duration, a range, and number of uses. Senshi magic should be written to have a base ability, however players can include optional effects, such as more powerful or lasting damage, that their RP partner can choose to be affected by! Senshi magic can be a buff or debuff, can be offensive, defensive, or create illusions. Senshi magic should typically only be one type of magic; it should not be a buff, and be offensive and defensive, for example.
Sailor Scout Attack: Sadalmelik's Breath! Water molecules in the air condense into a thick haze in a 10 foot sphere around the target for 30 seconds. The moisture in the air makes it difficult to see, and anyone trapped within will feel a thin layer of uncomfortable, sticky condensation clinging to them. Targets may feel cold and damp, and breathing the heavy condensation can cause coughing. This attack can be used 3 times.
Super Sailor Scout Attack: Sadalmelik's Veil! Water molecules in the air condense into a thick haze in a 15 foot sphere around the target for 35 seconds. The moisture in the air makes it difficult to see, and anyone trapped within will feel a thin layer of uncomfortable, sticky condensation clinging to them. Targets may feel cold and damp, and breathing the heavy condensation can cause coughing. This attack can be used 2 times.
Eternal Sailor Attack: Sadalmelik's Gift! Condensation gathers on the surface of everything within a 20 foot radius of Sadalmelik. When this condensation comes in contact with an injury, it will magically cool and heal all minor and moderate wounds of all allies. It cannot heal severe injuries but it can temporarily stabilize and may briefly sooth pain. The condensation cannot stop new damage, but it will heal for the duration of the magic. This magic lasts for 45 seconds and can be used once per day.
Uniform Color: Main and secondary. Give us a hex code if you'd like. The bodices of Order Senshi (including chibis) will always be white, and the bodices for Dark Mirror and Corrupted Senshi will always be black. Characters should have at least one main color and one secondary color, but other colors can be used as needed.
Main Color: Pale periwinkle blue (#CCCCFF) Secondary Color: Powder blue (#A4DDED)

Family
Mother Amenomori Miwako (deceased) was Reina's kaa-chan, a video game music composer and a star of the world of traditional shamisen. Despite being the heir apparent to her family's school of tsugaru jamisen, Miwako was interested in other things that had nothing to do with maintaining the tradition or her family's school, and was something of the black sheep of the family...which turned rather more literal when she married a Black American man who was working as a game dev on the same game she was composing music for. Like her husband, Miwako loved pop culture, gaming, manga, anime, and j-rock, and they were excited to raise a little girl of their own. To Reina, Miwako was the cool mom who taught her how to play music, encouraged her to try writing her own music, and dreamed of one day playing onstage with her little girl. Unfortunately, after her husband died, she couldn't take care of their little girl on her own anymore, and she was forced to move in with the family she'd turned her back on. Even more unfortunately, there was little Miwako could do to protect Reina, and she soon fell ill. Desperate to find a better solution for her daughter, she reached out to her husband's half-brother, hoping the brother-in-law she'd never met would reach back out in time to help get mother and child out of Japan. Unfortunately, though contact was successfully made, it was too late, and Miwako was dying, leaving her mixed race daughter alone in a very hostile clan in a country that didn't take kindly to people who didn't perfectly fit in...
Father Amiri Lyon (deceased) was Reina's tou-chan, a Black, American-born video game dev who scored a job with a Japanese video game studio. Amiri was the younger half-brother to Tyriq Lyon, being born to different fathers in New Orleans, but both taking their mother's surname. The two had a somewhat large age gap, so weren't particularly close. College caused them to drift further apart, as Tyriq moved out to Destiny City, Virginia after college with his bride, a world-class jazz pianist, and Amiri wound up getting a job in Japan, which he was incredibly excited about, having always been big into Japanese pop culture. The two brothers lost touch after Tyriq got a new email address, forgetting to tell Amiri about it, but Amiri had found a love of his own at a company party in the beautiful composer of the music of the game he was working on. They hit it off, got married, and had a kid that they were supremely excited about. They worked hard to balance their respective work schedules with Reina's needs with their respective desires to keep pursuing work they loved doing. To Reina, Amiri was the fun, nerdy dad who taught her how to game and would bring home the manga magazines the family read; he also kept a schedule on the fridge of the showtimes of all the things everybody wanted to watch, whether anime, or concerts. Unfortunately, during Reina's first year of middle school, Amiri was killed in an accident, and Reina began to lose her support network. That said, despite the fact that Amiri was unaware that Tyriq had changed his email address, Amiri did send periodic updates to Tyriq about life in Japan, and he did communicate a little more regularly with their mother, who was worried when Amiri's emails ceased and no information about his fate was forthcoming.... The discovery by the Lyon family that Amiri had died in an accident has hit the family in differing ways, but there is a determination to bring Reina home and make sure she's safe and sound with people who love her.
Grandmother Amenomori Benika is Reina's obaa-sama, the head of the Amenomori clan, and the head of the Amenomori school of tsugaru jamisen. As such, she is a master of the shamisen style played in Aomori Prefecture. Unfortunately, out of all of her assorted children, only one developed any kind of musical talent, as well as a love for music, and she trained this child, Miwako, to be a master of the shamisen who could pick up the tradition after Benika passed. Even more unfortunately, Miwako had zero interest in being the standard bearer of the tradition, as much as she loved the shamisen, and promptly left home to pursue a music career of her own devising. Benika loved Miwako, very much seeing Miwako as the only possible Amenomori successor...and struggled to understand her child's interest in pop culture. When Miwako returned with a child in tow whose father was visibly not Japanese, Benika had no real knowledge of how to handle her various frustrations, and wound up acting cold and distant. When she realized Miwako couldn't protect her child from the rest of the Amenomori, Benika interceded...by confiscating anything that could be damaged or destroyed by Miwako's siblings and their children, and shoving it in a storage locker until such a time as Reina obtained her majority, when she'd be in a better position to walk free of the Amenomori. Unfortunately, Benika saw that her beloved Miwako was dying, but had inadvertently left her mother a gift: Reina was, like Miwako, a talented musician trained in the shamisen. Reina's cousins, like their parents before them, had made no real attempt to master the shamisen, leaving Reina as the new only possible Amenomori heiress, and Benika, while still too conflicted to protect Reina, still endeavored to keep Reina close enough to oversee Reina's musical education, and ensure that people outside the family were aware that Reina was a gifted musician. In her own way, she grew fond of Reina, and regretted a little bit not doing more to protect her granddaughter, but the adoption by American relatives seems like an opportunity to make Reina's remaining childhood less harsh, a kind of apology and repentance for her poor handling of Reina's time in the Amenomori household.
Adoptive Mother/Aunt Shams Lyon (39) is Reina's aunt by marriage on her father's side, and her new adoptive mother, as well as a professional jazz pianist. She loves cats, spicy food, her husband, her girls (her biological daughter and her adopted daughter), her sister, her niece, her nephew, and cats. Very family-oriented, but very earthy and kind. Shams can be busier than she'd like with her work, but she spends as much time as she can with her family, and the little garden in the sunroom Tyriq built for her. She's been mentoring Keesh through her own love for music, and will not hesitate to do the same for Reina; she's generally also been extremely supportive of Khaz and Yasmeen, her younger sister's kids.
Adoptive Father/Uncle Tyriq Jamar Lyon (41) is Reina's uncle on her father's side, and her new adoptive father. He's a kindly, hardworking figure who runs a stained glass shop in town, who met Shams while she was at an event in New Orleans, his hometown, around the time he was finishing college. With help, he made Shams a sunroom in which to keep her more delicate plants in the winter, and play her piano in a sunny spot all year long. He absolutely adores his wife and daughters (including Reina), loves his wife's piano, loves jazz and cooking (especially jambalaya), and is just as happy to let his sister-in-law and her kids hang out, though, in many regards, he's pretty busy with his work. Knowing how Shams and Keesh feel about cats, he brought home a pair of Van kittens around the same time his in-laws brought home Neith. He hosts a big family dinner once a week for all family members in Destiny City.
Adoptive Sister/Cousin Keisha Lyon (18 ) is Reina's shy and quiet older cousin, now sister, and a fellow musician, although her tastes are different, and she's not as confident about expressing them. She was on the high school swim team before graduating, plays piano, and is a pretty decent cook, too. Keesh is pretty excited about having a new sister, but nervous about not getting along with Reina. That said, if Reina ever gets around to asking for help on anything, Keesh will be one of the first to offer a helping hand.
Adoptive Aunt Thuraya Khalid (37) is Shams' younger sister, who works part-time as an elementary school substitute teacher and librarian with the Destiny City public library system. Like her big sister, she's a loving figure, but, like Reina's own mother at the end, Thuraya has had to contend with effectively being a single parent, although Thuraya's husband is still alive, he's just almost always away on business. Despite her modest dress, Thuraya is very much a liberal-minded person, accepting of differences, and always with an eye to the night sky, and a book somewhere in her bags. While the Lyon family is pretty agnostic in their religious outlook, Thuraya is Muslim, just a very casual one who encourages her children to be very open in their outlooks.
Adoptive Uncle Faruq Khalid (39) is Thuraya's mostly absentee husband, as business keeps him away from home most of the time. While Thuraya and Shams also come from a Lebanese family, Faruq was born in Lebanon, and the rest of his side of the family is in Lebanon, and the story as Reina understands it is that Faruq is struggling with some of the same problems that her mother Miwako suffered through after Reina's own father died, in that Faruq's family was extremely unsupportive of him marrying Thuraya, and they actively keep Faruq and Thuraya apart, in an attempt to get Faruq to be the youngest son they want him to be. Though it may be a while until Reina meets Faruq, she's inclined to be sympathetic, because she watched the hell her mother went through for marrying a non-Japanese person, and she had to deal with the disapproving extended family in a way Khaz and Yasmeen have not had to.
Adoptive Cousins Khazran Khalid (17) and Yasmeen Khalid (9) are technically Keesh's cousins by blood, but they are legally Reina's cousins, too. Khaz is on the swim team, and is big into chemistry, cosmetics, and perfume, a combination Reina would not have expected to see in a boy, but Khaz is also a fundamentally nice person, and played a big part in decorating Reina's new bedroom. Yasmeen is taking ballet, draws, paints, reads, and enjoys craft projects; she's also got a big soft spot for mahou shoujo, something Reina can't help but appreciate. Plus, Yasmeen is utterly sweet and adorable. Reina will have difficulty saying no to any request to babysit Yasmeen. That said, between Khaz and Yasmeen, Reina can tell that Khaz has largely given up on Faruq ever being present in his life, and has chosen resentment that his father doesn't just walk away from the rest of the family in Lebanon, a feeling that Reina does not sympathize with; Yasmeen clearly still has faith that things will get better, sooner or later, a level of optimism that Reina isn't sure is ever going to be rewarded....
Neit(h) The Khalid family cat. Just an ordinary black cat. With peridot green eyes and wearing ancient Egyptian jewelry. Clearly a beautiful kitty, though Reina hasn't had much interaction with her yet.
