2026 Star Festival Prompt The Fireflies (6) : In the warm summer nights, little glowing lights begin to bob and dart through the city. Fireflies are mating, so this isn't uncommon in itself; in the past few days you've probably seen hundreds of fireflies. What makes these lights so unique is that they seem to change color; you might see a blue one, a green one, a red one. They flicker randomly, and something just seems off with them. If you come into contact with one, you will find yourself with a strange electric jolt. They cannot be caught, and will flicker away if you pursue too aggressively. This isn't the first time they've appeared in Destiny City, but no one's been able to tell where they came from or where they're going. No matter how quickly you chase them, they always seem to disappear before you can find any answers. Kissling was admiring the little colored fireflies the night of the star festival and marveling how they almost seemed to reflect the colorful night sky with its multicolored shooting stars. He held up the opal star charm someone had given him, admiring its multicolored hues as it caught the light. The fireflies surrounding him might have thought it was another firefly because they clustered around it as it shone, the light glinting off of it almost making it appear like it was glowing the same as the little bioluminescent insects. He then put the charm away, not wanting to confuse them any more than he already had.
The Dark Mirror Senshi wondered what made the fireflies and stars so colorful that evening, but he wasn't about to complain. Nor was he the sort to look too much into it, especially as a resident of Destiny City where mysteries abounded and answers to them were rare. Instead, he just appreciated and admired them as they were, wondering how many others were doing the same right at that moment.
He would have liked to share the sights and experiences with someone else, but most of the few people he knew as Kissling were busy or else he didn't know how to contact them. Besides, they probably had their own plans during Tanabata. Oh, well. Not like he wasn't used to being on his own.
Kissling summoned a Mirrorwraith from his Mirror Shard and let it roam the park to gather energy from people wandering around. Since it was dark out and there were so many pretty lights to distract people - whether the stars, fireflies, or lights put up by people for the festival - it would have been very easy to miss the Mirrorwraith which was difficult to notice even in direct sunlight. That was why Kissling felt confident in letting it go around on its own and trusted it to return to him when it was full of energy it had collected.
Since Mirrorwraiths didn't talk and it was impossible to tell if the one summoned was ever the same as one summoned previously, they weren't very good for keeping one company. Still, after chasing down a few fireflies and managing to get jolted by them after trying to catch a few in his hands, the blond noticed an energy signature close by and decided to see if he could go find and talk to the person it belonged to. The energy signature was chaos like his own and about the same level of power, but the type of chaos it was imbued with was different; Negaverse chaos. Kissling hadn't met very many Negaverse agents, but how bad could they have been?
Setting off to seek out the energy signature among the field of colorful fireflies, Kissling soon came across a figure in the dim light and tried to squint to peer into the darkness. "Hello?" he called out. "Is anyone there?" Continuing to approach the figure, he raised his hand to wave cheerfully. "Nice night out, isn't it? And lucky it isn't raining so Orihime and Hikoboshi can meet on their bridge of magpies like in the stories!"MiddyGlow ((Please let me know if you’d like me to change anything!))

Dzhalindite still didn't know much about the fireflies or anyone from the dark mirror court. She really had only talked to a few senshis and some other members of her own order. She had no memory of talking to a dark mirror at all. She was currently sitting on a bench in the park watching the fireflies, minding her own business, when she felt the energy. She didn't really think about it since it was chaos energy, right? Destiny City was a weird city it rarely made sense, it was likely that they were on a magical nexus or something that had to be the answer to that. Dz was very used to being on her own; she rarely worked with other nega soldiers. Besides, when she had helped that random guy fighting the giant chicken. She was still made that the eggs were broken for no reason when she had protected them and really wanted an egg of her own. She crossed her arms and huffed. Dz blinked at the figure and wondered if they were an alien with the way they were speaking to her. "Umm ooook.." She said with a frown. She didn't really know about Deep space senshi so she couldn't really use that as a reason for how weird they were being. "What are you talking about?" She asked, confused. She wondered if they got that she was a nega soldier.

"Uhhh...the Star Festival," Kissling replied, sheepishly scratching the back of his neck with a shy smile. "The Star Festival happens because it's a celebration of the story of the stars Vega and Altair and how they're star-crossed lovers because they're separated by the Milky Way and get to meet one night a year. The festival - which happens on the seventh day of the seventh month of the year - is called Tanabata in Japanese," he explained. "And the stars - Vega and Altair - are Orihime, the Weaving Princess, and her lover, Hikoboshi, the Cowherd. You've never heard that story?"
He looked sorry for the Negaverse Lieutenant, casting her a pitying smile. "Orihime cried so much for her lover that a flock of magpies took pity on her and made a bridge with their bodies so that she and her lover could meet once a year. When it rains, though, the bridge can't be made and they have to wait a whole 'nother year to see each other again."

Dz frowned and then shrugged and said, "I thought it was just a rainbow festival." She said, brushing the whole thing away from her mind. She shook her head, "No, but I didn't ask either." She said in a dismissive tone. Dz rolled her eyes at the sad look on their face. "Why are you so emotional about a fairytale?" It was like believing in the greek gods, or any god really. She stood up with the rainbow fireflies all around them. She really wasn't a romantic so even before she became a nega soldier, she wouldn't have fawned over the story. "So what is it you want of me?" She said with her hand on her hip. She gave them a harsh look and considered just attacking them because they were annoying.

"...Why would it be a rainbow festival when it's called the Star Festival?" Kissling laughed. "Woooooooow...someone woke up on the wrong side of the bed today. Are you hangry or something? Or are you just always this grumpy?" he asked.
Just as he did, though, he noticed movement out the corner of his eye. A creature about the size of a cat that appeared to be made out of mirror shards - his Mirrorwraith - was flying straight at the Negaverse agent, eager to steal some of her energy. It was just a little - Mirrorwraiths never took much - but Kissling looked suddenly horrified. The last thing he needed was for the grumpy agent to take offense to his wraith trying to steal energy from her.
Unfortunately, it was too late to stop it. The Mirrorwraith dove toward Kissling, passing through the lieutenant like an intangible ghost as it took a bit of her energy. Kissling quickly got out his Mirror Shard for the wraith to disappear into, but the damage had been done. The wraith had been too tangible by then, too full of energy, to have avoided being seen at such close quarters. The Dark Mirror Senshi winced.
"Uh...sorry about that," he told the agent, hoping she would allow him to explain before she got aggressive. "I didn't tell it to attack you, I swear. They just go around stealing energy from anyone who isn't a Dark Mirror Senshi in order to bring back energy for Mirrorspace and our court."

Dz attempted to bat the creature away from her as it stole some of her energy. She growled at the mirror senshi and said, "You expect me to believe that?" Then she rushed forward, ready to deck this guy. She aimed for their face. She was tired of listening to them, and she was tired of dealing with them. She found them really annoying, and who had ever heard of a minion you couldn't control that was so dumb. She didn't care what the star festival was about right now the only thing she was about was pounding this guy's face into the dirt. She saw a flash of color on the ground but it was outside of what she was paying attention to at that moment.

The blond senshi fell over when he was decked, completely caught off-guard. He had thought the lieutenant might be mad, but he didn't know how mad. After the first punch, however, he grabbed her wrist to keep her from punching him again - at least long enough to mention his senshi attack and to use its magic, giving her a kiss on - well, he could have kissed her anywhere, but he decided to try to kiss her on the lips. The more intimate the place, the stronger his magic was, and he didn't want to take any chances with someone who was as angry as she was just then.
"Kiss and Make Up."MiddyGlow Sailor Scout Attack: Kiss and Make Up! Description: Kissling, at minimum, blows a kiss at his target, but may also kiss them directly. If the kiss is blown, the magic takes the shape of a pair of pink lips that float toward the target until they make contact with skin. Upon contact (whether a blown or direct kiss), pink sparkles appear. The sparkles soon fade, but then the target is distinguished by a kiss mark where they were kissed until the magic fades. If the magic hits, it causes the target to feel deterred from being physically violent toward Kissling. The kiss at minimum is a blown kiss, but the closer to a person the kiss is given and longer the contact with skin or more intense the kiss, the more potent the magic and the less the target feels like being physically violent towards Kissling. The player of the target can interpret as they see fit how and to what extent their character feels deterred from being physically violent toward Kissling. Kissling is the only one the target is deterred from being physically violent toward. The magic will be rendered useless if the kiss doesn't hit its mark, if Kissling's lips are covered, if the target has absolutely no exposed skin available to kiss, or if used on a target who doesn't feel like being physically violent toward Kissling in the first place. • Type: Psychologically-altering Projectile or Direct Attack • Target: 1 person Kissling aims for • Use: 3x per battle • Range: 10 feet • Duration: 25 seconds

Dz was so angry at first when he kissed her, and she jumped backwards, ready to beat up again. Then all of a sudden the anger drained out of her. She frowned and glared at him, confused. "Wow, that was how could you, that was such an invasion of my well, everything!!" She ranted, "How can a what are you again?" She had forgotten what he was, except annoying. She was ready to just ditch this situation.

"It was just a kiss. Don't tell me you've never been kissed before. And you hit me," Kissling countered, touching his face where he'd been punched. "I think that gives me a right to defend myself."
He looked up when she asked what he was. "Hmm? I'm a Dark Mirror Senshi," he told her. "We're not supposed to fight with Negaverse agents, but I was just defending myself!"

Dz glared at him even without wanting to hit him again, "Wow, you apparently have never heard of consent or personal boundaries." She rolled her eyes and said "Yeah, to hit me back, why do you even have magic like that? It's so weird!!" She growled at him. She glared at him "I don't remember ever hearing a rule like that you are weird." She pouted and picked up a star charm on the ground.

"Do you really have any right to talk about consent or personal boundaries when you just hit me out of nowhere?" Kissling wanted to know, scratching his head. "Because it doesn't seem like it to me." At her question about his magic, he laughed and shrugged. "Just lucky, I guess. Not like I picked it or anything. What else did you expect the Senshi of Kisses to do? Hug you?"
Shrugging again when she said she hadn't heard about the understanding between the Negaverse and the Dark Moon Court, he said, "Maybe you haven't been listening to your superiors, then. Ask them if you don't believe me. Maybe they told you and you just forgot." He turned to go. "Anyway...if you don't want me around, I'm not going to stay. Bye, Miss Grumpypants."

Dz just glared at him. She was so mad, and then he left, and she wasn't about to argue with that since she found him so annoying, and beating someone was totally different from kissing someone she would die on the hill. (Fin)
