Quote: The Fireflies (6) : In the warm summer nights, little glowing lights begin to bob and dart through the city. Fireflies are mating, so this isn't uncommon in itself; in the past few days you've probably seen hundreds of fireflies. What makes these lights so unique is that they seem to change color; you might see a blue one, a green one, a red one. They flicker randomly, and something just seems off with them. If you come into contact with one, you will find yourself with a strange electric jolt. They cannot be caught, and will flicker away if you pursue too aggressively. This isn't the first time they've appeared in Destiny City, but no one's been able to tell where they came from or where they're going. No matter how quickly you chase them, they always seem to disappear before you can find any answers. The sound of metal grinding on glass filled his ears as he prayed the bottle wouldn’t somehow break in his hand, it felt like he was holding it too tightly while trying to chip away at this cork. The knife in his hand sliced at bits as he twisted and turned the blade, a can opened lay on the counter top near to him as he toiled away, he’d given up trying to find the cork screw as he often didn’t use it. Alexandre didn’t drink, and only on occasion cooked with wine, chances were that Rene had the cork screw somewhere and he just couldn’t locate it.
As more bits and pieces of cork sprayed out from the opening he was making, he was going to need a thinner knife soon, the counter top was becoming covered in the little bits. All about, just far enough away to avoid the spray of cork pieces, were the other ingredients for dinner tonight. He was going for a French dish, the wine from the Burgundy region of France, it was one he’d bought rather than go through his finances stock of wines in order to cook. Those wines, as he’d been told, were for drinking and meant to be enjoyed. This one was as well but it was going to be used for cooking - once he got the cork out of it.
“s**t!” He had not expected the cork to suddenly give, and by give he meant to plunge down into the bottle, as wine sprayed up and hit him and landed on the counter as well. Damn it. Cursing once more, though glad to have handled the cork issue, the mess was ignored for the moment so he could measure out the wine he’d need - half the bottle.
Once he’d finished the bottle was set down, to the side, with the remains of the cork bobbing about in the bottle. Without the cork to seal the bottle back up, and it not all being used, he went for plastic wrap and tin foil to cover it. That would work, it had to, as he chanced a glance out the window and into the backyard where he could see fireflies dancing about in the early night sky. It was late, though it didn’t look it, and only now was he getting into the making of dinner. Perhaps he should have started earlier; maybe he’d have found out about the missing cork screw earlier and been able to find it.
Going about cleaning his mess, glancing every so often out to the backyard, it was nice to see so many fireflies as he’d recently read an article saying that soon there wouldn’t be any left, that the next generation or two might be the last to grow up with them. Shaking his head, ignoring the purple firefly, he didn’t mind the fact some were magical this year…they were still fireflies…despite the magic involved. Cleaning the mess up, and removing his stained shirt, he did wonder if he should ask Rene how to remove wine stains from clothing; the other had to have some sort of a clue. If he asked him then Rene would want to know how he’d gotten wine on his clothing; and he’d just come down and investigate personally. Sighing s he bundled his shirt up and shuffled off to the laundry room to deposit it there, taking a moment to grab a stain remover and cover the spots in it. He’d let it sit for a while, hope the stuff worked on eating away some of the stains, and then wash it. Now though he had dinner to make.

Rene had been in the library, looking over some of his newest books and occasionally looking outside at the fireflies. Something was different about them, maybe a different species? It could be magic, maybe... But he still didn't exactly want to poke the bear, so to speak, when it came to the seasonal unpleasantness as Chalcanthite had called it. It was so oddly posh that he found himself laughing and using it as well. Looking over at his glass of wine, empty for the last quarter of the book he was reading, he groaned and heaved himself from the comfort of his chair and headed towards the kitchen. Alexandre wasn't there when he arrived, though; a different scene was playing out that had him standing there in disbelief. It looked like his ange had tried to murder the wine... and as he looked at the mess he wondered why they hadn't come to him even though he already knew why. "Mon petit ange?" Following the drips of wine on the floor, he found the blond in the laundry room, and as he saw the wine-stained shirt, he tried and failed to keep the grin from spreading over his face. Stepping forward, he slipped his arms around their waist and pulled Alexandre close. "Oh, what have you done? I thought we said no battles in the house?" Teasing lightly, he rested his chin on the top of their head as he looked down over things.

Normally he was good at picking up on eople coming up behindh im, he had to be, but in the safety of his own home certain things lessened and that was one such thing. Taking that into account it was really no surprise when he jumped a little, before easinmg back into the others hold, and sighed softly. "Battle in the house....ohhh." He'd been in the kitchen hadn't he?
"I couldn't find the cork screw." And he didn't know where the other had left it, nor did he want to go looking all over for it. "I needed the wine for dinner." And he still had to get to that, turning in the others hold as he pressed his face into the others broad chest. "Did you want to help me with dinner, since you've now been in the kitchen?" He didn't ask him to fish the cork out, as he doubted that could be done, the wine would get used and the mess cleaned up. He had at least gotten what he'd wanted - an open wine bottle that he could use.
He had been victorious.
"Or do you still have some work to do?" As he really hadn't k nown where the other had been, their home was rather large after all, keeping track of people and finding them were not always easy.

Rene hummed slightly, then shook his head before a laugh rumbled in his chest. "It was on top of the fridge, mon ange, I'll put it back in the drawer next time for you." Letting them turn in his arms, he pressed a kiss to the top of their head. He still preferred this side of things to the more violent side his angel had, even if he wouldn't lie and say that side didn't also make him feel better about how things had played out. "I can help a bit. I'm not sure I can help with some of it, but if you need to cut up more ingredients or just need me to reach things, then I can help with that." He hadn't burned, noodled, or boiled a kettle dry in a while, but it was obvious who was best suited for cooking of the pair. "I was just reading, I finished work, and decided to take a break. I noticed some lights outside. Are there magic fireflies like there are rabbits?" He figured they'd know, given how long they'd dealt with all this. Even with his time here stretching into another year, he still learned about new things happening each season, whether or not he wanted to.

"On top of the fridge." A huff from the blond followed his words, as if he could reach or even see that high. Of course he hadn't thought to look there, to get a step stool so he could look, so he'd gone for the can opener and knives in order to assist in his endevor. Who would think the top of the fridge for a cork screw? Aside from apparently his fiance.
"Mgaic fireflies...yeah. They come arround every year, like clo;ckwork, I hadn't noticed them yet myself so I didn't really think about them." Plus Rene was getting better at spotting the odd things which happened in the city, oddly colored fireflies meant magic of some sort, bunnies that acted off also meant magic. The news, and social media, also helped inform people and he was rather certain Rene looked at such things juste to keep himself aware of the issues each season brought with it. "I think if you bother them they sting a bit, like a little jolt, they're mostly harmless." Compared to some of the other things anyway, this city and it's holidays tended to be either dangerous or harmless - these were harmless.
"I'll have you grab things for me while I work on dinner then. I figured French would be nice." Shrugging as he spoke and up on tip toes he was able to press a kiss to the mans smooth cheek. 'Hence the wine." Rene likely had an idea what he was making, at least he should, considering what he had out on the table.
