Quote: Fire Ant Fiasco (14) : Fire ants are an unfortunate part of summer, but this year they're worse than ever. It's bad enough that they're so plentiful, but their bites also burn far more intensely than usual. What begins as a sharp sting quickly spreads into a sensation that feels like liquid fire running through your veins. The heat can become overwhelming. Some victims compare it to a severe allergic reaction; others insist it feels as though they are overheating from the inside out. Skin may flush, muscles may ache, and everything can suddenly feel unbearable. The effects are painful, but never lethal. Cold showers, ice packs, frozen treats, and air conditioning can provide temporary relief, but there is no known cure beyond waiting it out. For some, the symptoms fade within minutes. For others, the feverish sensation can linger for hours. No one knows what's causing these unusually aggressive reactions, but you should probably be extra careful outside this year. It was summer again, and for this particular Mauvian, it meant bathing in the sun or finding a nice shady spot when it was too hot just to be outside and enjoy nature without all of the mud and snow and chill and everything else that came along with winter. However, he had not been paying attention when he was laying and did not see the small fire ant nest that was right next to him. And what do fire ants do when they feel threatened? Well, let's just say that Bernard was letting out a few yelps here and there as he tried rolling around and getting the ants off of him in any way possible. He could turn into his human form, but outside where he could easily be seen was not going to happen!

Summer had arrived, and Aurora was out. She wasn't powered up at the moment, but she figured she could if she needed to. She saw a cat acting really weird she moved closer quickly to see what was wrong. It seemed the cat was covered in ants, and without thinking, she started to try to brush the ants off the cat and was getting bitten for her troubles. She hadn't noticed the effects of the bites as of yet. She only focused on getting the cat free of the ants and to safety. "Don't worry, you'll be ok." She said, not really thinking the cat could understand her. She moved them both into the shade under a tree. It was then that she felt the heat in her body and was shocked she had heard of fire ants, but this was weird, and now she was feeling it was likely magical. She sighed. "Figures I wonder if cats are affected by magic." She pondered to herself.

Bernard was still quite fluffed up from the encounter, attempting to make sure that there were no ants left on him, giving his tail a shake to make sure. At first Bernard meowed at Aurora before recognizing the powered-down Senshi. He cursed himself for not doing so. It just showed how little he was doing his job not to be able to recognize Senshi he had run into before. He waddled over to her, looking to see if there were any ants left on her. "Thank you for saving me Lady Lacaille. Unfortunately I hadn't looked at the entire area that I was laying down in and I guess I was next to a nest." He said while looking over her and sniffing just in case he could smell them. If they were it would have been nice if they had been able to sense them. "Something always has to happen around this time of year and for this celebration. It is unfortunate."

Aurora laughed softly when the cat guardian spoke; she should have known that was what would happen when she was just trying to save a cat. "Think nothing of it." She said she felt her body heating up. "I think I got bitten too. I haven't been bitten in a long time I don't remember it being this bad." She sat down on a nearby bench. She sighed deeply. "Are you sure you are alright?" She looked the guardian over. "I'm Aurora Foxwell." She said with a slight smile. "I wish we had met on a more peaceful day." As if the city had those type of days. "You are right, holidays are terrible in the city." Nothing ever seemed to go right on holidays. Everything was always a powered chaos mess. She shook her head.

"Ah yes of course." He said with a bow. He hadn't learned her civilian name yet. It made more sense to call her Aurora here. But then again someone talking to a cat could be seen as... strange. But it seemed to become the norm with all of the love of cats. "I am sorry that I do not have anything on me to help you." If only he had healing powers. Unless one counted the beam, but one probably didn't want to use that for healing without a lot of experimentation and willing subjects. He could feel himself getting hotter as well. Luckily they were in the shade of a tree, but the effects of the ants made sure that the tree did not give them much relief. He moved and curled himself into a bit of a ball next to her. "One wonders what kind of magic is so connected to the times of celebration. But alas." He let out a sigh. "Thank you for saving me once again. Is there anything I may be able to do in return for you?"

Aurora smiled, "Don't worry about it, it's alright." She paused and fanned herself and then said: "I'm sure the effects will wear off, they always seem to." She thought about the question before her and then answered, "Well, if you could upgrade my gear, that would be helpful. I don't believe I've upgraded my gear since I became a super scout." She said quietly. "I'm Super Sailor Scout Lacaille, senshi of books." She said softly. "If you like, we can go somewhere, and I'll power up and show you my gear." She said, only regretting the idea a little as her body felt like it was on fire. Then again, this was nowhere near the worst pain she had felt after the adventures she had been on. She had faced far stranger creatures than magical fire ants. "As for the magic of the holidays, I'm not really sure, perhaps the magic just spikes at times, people think of festivals." She paused and then said, "The human mind is an amazing thing after all."

Bernard took another look at her, seeing that she was still clearly feeling the effects of the bites. But neither of them seemed to have healing magic and therefor could not do anything about it. He let out a sigh. "Well then, if I can be of help in that way I would be honored! If you would please lead, I will follow you. And I'll be sure to keep checking to see if there are any chaos-auras around and about." He said with conviction and a determined look on his face. He couldn't help but smile at the conclusion of magic and humans, his fur-stache curling a little. "You may be right my lady. Sometimes I feel that humans do not give themselves credit for what they are able to do. It would be quite interesting to see if a human could manipulate and create such magics." He took a moment to make sure another ant wasn't on him before looking back at her. "I'm ready whenever you are Lady Aurora."

Aurora led the way to where she could transform into Lacaille, and then she showed the guardian her devices. "Oh, I'm so sorry I didn't even ask your name, my senshi name is Lacaille senshi of books." She said once she had transformed. She had picked an out-of-the-way spot in the park away from the fire ants. Since she didn't want to get bitten again, she sighed, "I'm afraid I'll have to make this quick I think I need to go jump in a lake or something." She said, fanning herself.

"Of course Lady Lacaille." He said as he took the devices from her and made the necessary upgrades to them. It only took a minute or two, but he eventually finished them and gave them back to her. "A new record if I may brag about how quick the procedure was." The thought of getting into the water was not a pleasant one for Bernard, though that may have been because he frequently needed to have them with his inability to completely clean himself. At least humans didn't have all of this fur! "Of course! It was lovely to meet you Lacaille! And I do thank you again for saving me from those ants. I hope jumping into the... water helps!" He would have to go and check his fur once again to make sure no ants were still on his body. He didn't want to have to take a bath today! MiddyGlow last post from me! Thank you for the rp!

She still didn't think she had gotten their name, but she was burning up and needed to cool down. She thanked them and was on her way. (Fin)
