They had settled on a local seafood restaurant and by the time the sun was starting to creep into the ocean the couple was seated at a small table on the restaurant's beach side deck, the sounds of the waves and gulls as a backdrop as a waiter came by and quietly lit the hurricane lamp in between them, the flame protected from the intermittent breeze by the frosted glass. “This place seems so nice.”

Cliff offered the waiter a smile and a thanks as the lamp was lit, then promptly turned his eyes back to Abby, who was seated just across from him. With the sunset in the background she was even more entrancing than normal, and he wound up likely wearing a goofy grin as he looked on. "It is nice," he agreed with a little nod, "nicer 'cause of the sunset. And even nicer since you're here with me."
Not that he could drop that line without cracking a small smile; it was cheesy, but he did mean it so he didn't feel a need to take back what he said. Instead he pulled up the menu and started flipping through it almost idly. He already knew he wanted surf and turf so he was mostly looking through it for formality's sake. And possibly for a chance to change his mind if he saw something more appealing than steak and lobster.
"Any place would be, though," he added as an afterthought. "So, any idea what you want?"

Abby giggled at Cliff’s compliment, “would you like some wine with that cheese?” He was right though. It was a very nice change in pace for them, very romantic actually. The beach, the sunset, the candlelight, everything. It was all so sweet and had Abby’s feelings dancing through her body. With a smile tinged with shyness Abby focused on the menu.
“Actually the grilled shrimp salad sounds good. You?” There were a lot of items on the menu that sounded good but it was the salad that had caught her attention. A small gust of wind sent her loose hair flying about her face and tugging at the bottom of her dress. With a tsk she wrangled her hair until it was tucked securely behind her ear. “Only issue with being outside. You're lucky that you don't really have to deal with that.” She smiled at Cliff and made a small face at him. “Still worth it though.”

"Might have to pass for tonight," he said, adding to the little joke before letting it die and turning the conversation to less cheesy things. "Surf and turf, probably," he said while tapping the item in the menu. The wind blew past and only slightly ruffled his hair, though he was less concerned about his own hair and more about how Abby was handling it. At the face she made at him he scrunched his brows together, not really sure what he did to deserve it even though the words that followed practically turned him to mush.
"Maybe tie it back for now?" he offered just as the waiter dropped off their drinks and offered to take their orders. He gave his and a thanks before taking a sip of his water, letting Abby go ahead and give her order before continuing their conversation.
"You'd look beautiful either way, so I say go with what's most comfortable."

“Yes, well. Drinking is over rated anyway.” Abby knew what wine tasted like, as a cook she had even worked with it on numerous occasions. She personally wasn’t fond of it but ‘to each his own.’ With that thought in mind she turned back to the menu. The surf and turf did look good but Abby decided to stick to the salad. As she slipped the escaping strands behind her ear once more Abby couldn’t help but toss Cliff a look, “Tie it back with what?” It wasn’t like she had a hair tie on her. She thanked the waiter and gave her order. Once the man was gone she smiled at Cliff sweetly, “you ham you.” His compliments always made her smile, Abby couldn’t help it.
Before Abby could really say anything more another breeze kicked up and she was once again scrambling to keep her hair out of her face. Cliff was right, she couldn’t very well enjoy the meal if she was always forced to remove hair from her mouth. Luckily she had a few ideas on how to remedy the situation so with a polite ‘excuse me a moment’ she ducked into the restaurant. She was gone long enough for the waiter to come back carrying the complementary bread, but not by much longer. Finally she rejoined Cliff, her hair secured in a bun with a few well placed bamboo skewers. Sadly no one had a spare hair tie that she could have but by using the skewers that they used to grill some of the food, unused ones of course, she was able to gather and twist her hair into a bun with two of the thin skewers to hold the mass in place. It wouldn’t hold forever but it should last long enough. “There, no more hair in the mouth.”

There was really just one word in his head--gorgeous--as he watched her make her way up, hair now up in a bun with some sticks that girls use to magically keep their hair up. As soon as she was seated he still wore that goofy smile he always had on when he was just sort of admiring her and wondering how he got so lucky…
Cliff chuckled at her words before taking a sip of his water again and starting on the bread. "Good, then there won't be any accidental eating of hair," he said before stuffing a piece into his mouth.
The conversation carried from there, drifting from school to soccer to dance and all manner of topics in between. It was fun and definitely a nice change from their usual ‘Netflix and chill’ type of nights; that was mostly because of school and their extracurriculars, after all, so they had much more freedom while on vacation. Dinner was fantastic--better and much fancier than most dinners they were used to--and, once it was over they left the restaurant and set out for a nice, evening stroll on the beach.
"So," Cliff started, taking her by the waist to hold her close as they walked. It would also help to keep her warm, he figured, since the breeze was rather chill despite it being the summer. Probably because they were close to the ocean, he figured. "We're still close enough to the main street in case you wanna head for a club instead?"

Dinner had been fantastic. The food was just right and their conversation had covered a variety of topics, it had been perfect. As they strolled along sand, the only light illuminating their path was the moon and the occasional splash from the town filtering through the buildings. The sounds of the street were drowned out by the soft roar of the ocean as it crashed on the beach.
Cliff had pulled her close, the warmth of his body and hand on her hip was a counterpoint to the chill breeze coming off the water that was tugging at her dress. “Hum…” Abby contemplated the idea of going to a club, going dancing and possibly dealing with other females hanging all over Cliff. She had enough of other girls for the day so with a shake of her head she said, “no, let's just enjoy the walk. Maybe we will go tomorrow but right now.” She let her sentence fade off as she leaned her head against his shoulder, her toes digging into the still warm sand since her sandals were currently dangling from her fingers.
As they progressed along the beach, slowly leaving civilization behind, only dark condos faced the water, Abby started to feel rather mischievous. With a sly smile pulled him to a stop, the rocky outcropping marking the end of the beach barely visible in the distance. She slipped her arms around his neck and her one hand, the one free of shoes, buried itself in his hair as she tugged him down for a much more passionate kiss than the one earlier in the day. The kiss went on and on until she pulled back, smiled at him, nipped at his bottom lip, and whispered, “catch me if you can.” She slipped out of his grasp and took off down the beach, heading for the rocks, her laughter drifting back towards him on the wind.

Cliff only nodded when she made her choice and they went further along the beach, slowly but surely making their way further and further from the very obvious signs of the beach town they were visiting. That was fine with him; time alone with Abby that wasn't in either of their apartments was rare to come by, and he was happy to finally have that with her now.
The sand beneath their feet was warm and he was happy to let his feet sink into it with each step. He'd taken his sandals off as well and tucked them into his free back pocket; the perks of being a guy and having a back pocket for this kind of thing. And the walk was comforting, to just be with the woman he loved right then and there, he was...content with that, and almost looking forward to a quiet night once they were finished with their walk and ready to head back to the hotel.
So the surprise that etched itself onto his face when she kissed him--really kissed him this time, as opposed to the one they shared on the beach earlier that day--and pulled away after daring him to give chase was...well, rather obvious. Once the initial shock wore off she was already several feet ahead of him, so he grinned and started after her. Their laughter was all but drowned out by the ebb and flow of the tide, and the sound of waves crashing against the rocks they were headed toward. Cliff was grateful for the speed that soccer gave him, and it wasn't long before he finally caught up to her, an arm going around her waist as he hoisted her up off the sand for a moment to keep her from getting away again.
"Got you!" he laughed just before setting her down again, just beside a great rock formation of some kind. The darkness obscured much of their surroundings now, and the only light they had was being provided by the moon. It added an air of mystery to everything, and as he pushed her gently against the rocks and took her lips once more he couldn't help but feel the slightest bit of a thrill go down his spine.
