Since that sunday dinner some months back things had started to go a bit smoother, and just like that the semester was done and summer vacation arrived. Cliff sometimes lay in bed wondering about how fast the months flew by, and he and Abby were still going strong. The thought always brought a smile to his lips every single time, and when he brought it up as a form of celebration they thought up a full week at the beach. Without the parents, of course, and while it took a bit of convincing, her dad finally gave his OK so there they were!

The sun was already on its way down but Cliff was still lying back on his beach chair at their little setup just a little ways from the edge of the water. His eyes were perfectly trained on Abby, who was on her way back from grabbing a drink; there was just something about seeing her in beach wear that always made him do a double take whenever she entered his field of vision. It begged the question: how in the hell did he get so damn lucky? But before he could ask she would say or do something irresistible or adorable or something similar and he just found himself grateful to be with her, whatever the reason might be.

Suffice it to say, his eyes were only ever on her, so he didn't quite notice the looks he was getting from other women on the beach. He was wearing a soft smile as she made her way over painfully slowly, a sigh escaping him.

"Did they have what you wanted?" he asked as she came into earshot. "And that said, we have our own little mini bar in our room. Couldn't wait?"

Abby traversed the sand carefully, the light blue sarong around her waist was being tugged by the stiff ocean breeze, twisting about her legs. The breeze felt good though as it cut some of the heat from the bright sun that beat down on the beach, it was still a bit shocking that she was able to do this week away with Cliff. It had taken some maneuvering and a lot of discussions but finally her father had relented and here they were. Sun, sand, and water.

She kept her eyes on Cliff, the sight of him in just his swim shorts, his chest bare and tanned, had her heart skip a beat. They had been dating for a while now, the longest relationship she had ever had, but she still got that little throb each time she caught sight of him. It still struck her as strange when she thought about how this relationship had started with them as just friends and yet here she was, well aware of his entire body and the spark of desire that flashed in her was now normal.

Finally making it over to Cliff’s side, completely unaware of the appreciative glances she was getting, “the mini bar is expensive.” She smiled down at him and passed him both bottles she had just bought before settling her on her own chair. “They don't allow open alcohol on the beach anyway.” Her smile was cheeky as she leaned towards him and muttered quietly, “besides we don't need booze to enjoy this weekend.” Abby gave him a quick peck on the cheek before relieving him of her soda, leaving Cliff with the second one.

Quote:
The little comment about booze had him grinning practically from ear to ear, the kiss only adding on to how completely excited he was about this weekend. Just the two of them; their first little trip as a couple. He opened his soda and took a quick swig before setting it down. "I know. Guess it might just be spring break when that's allowed." He wore his own cheeky little smile, he was obviously joking, before reaching for the edge of her sarong.

"So what's this thing for, anyway? It's practically transparent--"

"Cliff?" he heard someone say. It caught his attention and he turned around, his smile going from cheeky to surprised at the drop of a hat.

"Sarah?" he half-asked, half-knew the answer to the question already. Speaking of spring break, she'd been there when he and his friends came to hang out for a little bit. A pretty, petite (but rather well-endowed) brunette who'd been hanging on to him and one of his teammates, Jared, the entire time they were here the last time. Back then she seemed more interested in Jared, anyway, and he'd been mostly preoccupied with the fact that Abby hadn't contacted him yet.

"You do remember!" And without any prompting, she leaned down to give him a less than proper hug. Cliff, of course, returned it without giving it too much thought. Of course, had he noticed that she was almost entirely ignoring Abby's presence, he might have thought about it a little bit more. "I was wondering when I'd get to see you again. I pegged you and your teammates as the beach-going types, too."

Quote:
Abby was about to reply when they were interrupted by a busty brunette. At first she was surprised, apparently Cliff knew the girl and apparently knew her rather well. At first she was only able to stare as ‘Sarah’ rubbed herself all over him but as the hug seemed to continue on and on Abby glared at the girl, wondering just how fast she could break those pale arms that were currently wrapped around her guy.

After taking a moment to calm herself, she cleared her throat… Loudly. “Clifford? Darling? Introductions please.” Her voice carried a bit of warning, more for the girl then for Cliff but if he expected anything more than a handshake for the rest of the trip he would catch the tone as well and make the twit back off before Abby made her.

Quote:
The throat-clearing was noted and Cliff glanced over at Abby, eyes a little bigger than usual more because he wasn't sure what it was about than anything. Still, he smiled his usual smile and, foregoing a comment about beach trips with his buddies, he gestured toward Abby.

"Right, sorry. Sarah, this is Abby, my girlfriend. Abby, this is Sarah. We met during spring break when me and a few of the guys came down." It was innocent enough, and he expected them both to be nice and civil because there was really no reason for them not to be. They just met, right? So he turned his eyes to Sarah, who didn't look quite as pleased as she did just a second ago for some reason, smile widening as he went on. "Abby and I are here for a little summer weekend trip. Away from school and from home and the folks, you know."

Sarah extended a hand to Abby and, with a rather forced smile, said, "Nice to meet you. Quite the catch you've got here, lucky you."

Quote:
“Oh yes of course.” Abby’s voice took on a slight British accent, a clear indication that she was annoyed. “That was when I was in England. I’m still sorry I wasn't able to come with you,” she smiled at Cliff before getting up in one smooth motion and faced Sarah, her smile taking on a touch of an edge. “Unfortunately it was a semi-annual thing so I just couldn't beg off. I'm sure you know all about stuff like that, yes?”

It was all polite and proper, nothing anyone could really call either woman out on but there was still a bit of tension in the air. Their handshake was brief and Sarah’s smile wasn't the only one that was forced. “Oh yes. I know that quite well, it's just a shame it took me years to figure that out. To think, if I had known then what I know now then we would have been dating for nearly a decade.” She chuckled a bit, even though her eyes didn't show any amusement as they remained locked on the other girl.

With a few well placed comments she had pretty much told the twit that she had known Cliff pretty much his whole life and she was more worldly and sophisticated than the beach bunny could be. Cliff was hers…. No one else's and if this bubble butt, fake breasted, ‘girl’ thought she could tempt him away then she had another thing coming and it wouldn't be pretty. A lady doesn't start a fight…. But she damn well finished them.

Quote:
He heard it, that slight accent that was a very obvious indication that something was wrong. Cliff had learned to pick it up over the last few months, and while there was nothing he could really do right that instant to comment on it right away, as soon as she was done talking he reached up for her hand to tug her down to his lap. She was obviously making a point to say...something...and if she was in his lap he could at least give her subtle hints to back down considering how much closer they were.

"England, huh?" Sarah said, arms crossing and her expression turning to something a bit more competitive as she watched Abby plop down rather comfortably on his lap. "Yeah, usually my family goes out of town on breaks too, but I had arrangements in the city this past break so there wasn't anything I could do about it. No biggie though, like you said."

"And my family likes to stay local 'cause my parents prefer to save their vacation days for emergencies," Cliff added in a more joking tone. It was true, of course, but he was suddenly starting to sense a building tension that was not the good kind.

Sarah cleared her throat when Cliff interjected, as if to calm herself enough for things to actually stay civil, and gave a shrug. "Shame, all those years going to waste. I thought he was something special almost as soon as I laid eyes on him, you know." Of course, she'd tried to get his attention but wound up having to settle for Jared the last time. It didn't seem like she'd be getting any luckier now, either.

Quote:
Abby didn't particularly appreciate being pulled off of her feet but settling in Cliff’s lap, where he pulled her none the less, had a much bigger ‘back off’ vibe then Abby would be able to express without straight up saying as much. She settled back against him, her hand lying on his thigh in a clear indication of possession as Sarah tried to show that she was just as worldly as Abby was. Poor girl really had no chance in that department since Abby had literally explored the universe, with several different homeworld and wonder trips under her belt no mere trip ‘across the pond’ could compare… Not that Abby could say as much sadly.

Cliff’s interjection brought a snicker out of Abby. “Your parents save their vacation days for when you're away, that way they can enjoy themselves.” She teased him gently, her smile genuine and bright as she poked him in the side.

Her smile dimmed a bit, got sharper and grew a bit chilly when Sarah spoke again. “Oh I always knew he was special, I just thought he was special in the head when we were little.” Abby glanced at Cliff again, making a teasing face at him. “After that,” she shrugged slightly and focused on the other girl, “we were good friends, one could say we were team mates. We had each other’s backs. Sometimes it's hard to see past that, but I'm glad I did.” You can't beat me, he's already taken. Mine. She mentally added while staring Sarah directly in the eyes, practically daring her to make some kind of comment that implied that she didn't know how special Cliff was. “Maybe you have a childhood friend like that. You will just have to go look,” elsewhere for a boyfriend.

Quote:
"I know they do," he shot back, not noticing how Sarah rolled her eyes at the way Abby poked him, or at the curl of her lip when he kissed Abby's shoulder in response to the poke. "You know how my dad is, right? It's unsettling considering the jokes he keeps making about 'making another one.'" He shuddered before looking back up at Sarah, smile a bit lopsided.

Sarah only sighed, suddenly beginning to lose interest the further the conversation drifted to topics she couldn't relate to. And even more so when Abby started speaking again, though her sense of pride wouldn't just let her back down from this kind of a fight. "I had a guy like that once. Friend of my cousin's; thing about those kinds of relationships is they get boring pretty quick. There's not much new to learn after the first kisses and that kind of thing." She gave a dismissive wave of her hand before turning her attention back to Cliff.

"I hope you're happy though," she said first to him, then darted (and narrowed) her eyes toward Abby, "both of you. Anyway, I'd love to keep with the chit-chat, but my friends are waiting over there. If you guys feel like mingling a little, feel free to come over. We're right by the food shack."

Sarah rested a hand on Cliff's arm--there was no way to get any closer given how Abby was a little too comfortable in his lap--to serve as a goodbye kiss, then gave him a bright smile before turning and taking her leave.

Quote:
“That is because he wants a girl… no way he wants another boy. Raising you was enough to turn off any parent.” Abby smiled at him and just leaned back into him, enjoying the contact. It was really still surprising just how much his touch could calm her when she was irritated or annoyed. Poking fun at him also didn’t hurt in helping distract and dissipate her anger.

When Sarah said that dating an old friend was boring Abby had to bite her tongue to keep from saying something rather crude and instead just settled on thinking it. Then you really aren't doing it right. She might have meant the time they spent just talking and hanging out but it could have very well been taken in a dirty way, not that it didn’t apply there as well. Ever the more magnanimous person, Abby just smiled and said quietly, “We are. Go enjoy your friends, we will likely stay here, after all we wouldn’t want to impose.” No way would Abby join Sarah and her friends, not unless there was a damn good reason. She kept herself in check as the other girl gave Cliff a quick pat on the arm before walking away, she could handle a touch… as long as it wasn’t boobs in the face again Abby could deal with it, but once Sarah was gone Abby shifted on Cliff’s lap until she was sitting sideways across his legs.

“Mine.” It was the only warning he got before she kissed him. It probably had more possessiveness in it than ever before but she was still keeping it pg-13 since she was still aware that they were on a public beach. Abby wanted to make sure he knew that he was hers… all hers and nothing but hers. No matter how many big breasted, tiny bathing suited women came up to him this weekend, he was hers. His face was not meant to be in anyone else’s cleavage except hers, even if her cleavage didn’t have the same amount of volume that Sarah had.

Quote:
Cliff offered Sarah a simple smile as she said a rather polite goodbye, though he did give Abby a gentle squeeze when she returned that goodbye with slightly harsher words. Still, he didn't say anything and, when she said that singular word and kissed him, he could suddenly sense why.

The kiss stayed relatively tame given their setting, and when their lips parted he chuckled before leaning back into his chair. "You know I am," he said quietly, practically still against her lips. "And that my eyes are only ever on you. Still feel you have to mark your territory?"

Quote:
“I know it… and you know it…. but she didn’t.” Abby leaned back with him, snuggling into him. It didn’t matter to her that Sarah likely hadn’t seen their kiss, it was the thought that counted. That and it was a reminder to him, and any other female on this beach, that he was hers and only hers. “Yes. You might not look at others but others look at you. I don’t like it. I live with it but I don’t like it.”

She tapped him lightly on the nose and declared softly. “Mine.” Abby smiled at him and gave him another kiss before pulling back and explaining a bit more thoroughly. “They can look… they can talk… they can dream, and wonder… but touching is another matter entirely. A handshake, a needed hug, the simple pleasantries of friends are all well and good but when said friend shoves her melon sized breasts in your face I am not ok with that. Not when she did it deliberately.” Even just thinking about it was irritating her again, making her shift against Cliff, trying to settle her uneasy mind by moving around just a bit. “And she did do it deliberately. She didn’t care that I was sitting right next to you. That we might be seeing each other. And when she did know, she still questioned it.”

Abby fell silent but still squirmed in his lap, irritation mixed with the shame of being kind of rude to a complete stranger had her feeling rather unsettled. She jumped slightly when a rather loud cry of a seagull jarred her from her thoughts. “Oh,” She glanced at Cliff and had the grace to divert her eyes. She really had been rather rude, even if Sarah had started it. “I guess I was just jealous. After all, it was pretty clear she liked you and it's not like I can really compete with her figure,” Abby’s acceptable figure was overshadowed by Sarah’s rather voluptuous one, “and she did have a point with the whole boring comment. It's not that I find us boring but that sometimes there doesn’t seem like there are any more surprises for us to find out about each other. Besides… I never was very good at sharing something I really cared for.”

Quote:
He returned the smile and the kiss, expression soft even as she explained why she did what she did. And yes, he came to the same conclusion that maybe she was a little jealous and went a little overboard, it wasn't anything unforgivable. If anything, he thought it was flattering and sweet and maybe even a little adorable. Even with the way she expressed her doubts about their relationship, if you could even call it a doubt rather than a thought that Sarah had implanted into her brain, he found he could hardly do anything more than give a light chuckle and wrap his arms around her in a warm hug.

"You're beautiful and better than I deserve," he said with a smile, turning his head to plant a kiss on her temple as soon as he said it. "Also, your body way outclasses hers in my book. It's a work of art, considering the way you sculpted it with dance all these years, and I find that more attractive than anything she has to offer, believe me."

Cliff pulled back a bit and glanced down, meeting her eyes with a reassuring look in his own. "Far as the whole 'boring' thing, I just think we skipped the 'getting to know you' part of the relationship, but there's plenty more to learn. For instance…" and he gave it a bit of thought before the most obvious one finally came to mind. "Did you know that your British accent comes out when you're annoyed or irritated about something? I didn't learn that until a few weeks ago. It's actually why I pulled you into my lap earlier."

Quote:
Abby’s smile was weak but she did relax and settle down. “Yes well her figure really wouldn't help any when it came to dance. It might actually throw her off balance.” His words warmed her heart. She was glad he thought her figure was beautiful since Abby knew that the musculature that her dance built up wasn't something that a lot of guys liked. She was built better than some of the very few guys she briefly dated, not that Cliff was one of them.

With surprise Abby glanced at him. “It does?” She had no clue that her accent slipped out when irritated. After years of losing it after moving to the city it was surprising to hear that it still presented itself. “I guess there are more things to learn.” She smiled right before giving him another kiss, the turmoil that had been starting to build dissolved with the realization that there were still so many more things to learn.

Pulling back Abby was about to say something when a growl echoed from her stomach. She winced and sheepishly smiled, “maybe we should get some food. I can apologize to Sarah later but I think just some time with us two would be best for now.” She would apologize to the other girl, eventually.

Quote:
The grumble from her stomach pulled a laugh out of him as he nodded his head and shifted a bit so she could easily get out of his lap. "Sounds like a plan," he said as soon as they were both on their feet. He started gathering their things as he thought up a possible plan. By the time he was done he grabbed the chairs, the umbrella, their little cooler, and the blankets, and started heading for the car.

"So home first so we can grab a shower, then we can decide on a restaurant after? Or we could just do room service and order a movie. Or we can shower later and just go straight to a beachside restaurant right now." He kept his pace quick since he was carrying a lot so they were at the car soon enough. Cliff popped the trunk and loaded it up before turning his attention back to Abby.

"What's it gonna be? Or do you maybe have a better idea? I'm up for anything, honestly."

Quote:
Abby followed Cliff’s lead and gathered up the last of their stuff. He was suggesting several possibilities but none of them were quite right, at least not with the way they were dressed. She helped him load the car before finally voicing her opinion. “I say we head back long enough to unload and to change into something more appropriate for a restaurant.” She indicated their outfits with her hand.

Unlike Cliff, who really just needed shoes and a decent shirt, her bathing suit wasn't really something she felt would be acceptable anywhere else but a beach bar which was not where she really wanted to eat. The flash of jealousy she felt at the idea of other bikini clad women surrounding them while they tried to eat greasy fries and overcooked burgers did not bode well for such a meal. Her wrap could be fashioned into a makeshift dress but Abby felt that a full change would be best, after all even in a beach town the ‘no shoe, no shirt, no service’ policy held.

“I'm sure we can find a decent place that is still relatively casual but has more options than burgers and the ilk.” She smiled and shrugged, “after we could see if we can find a club to go dancing in or maybe we just stroll the boardwalk. I just want to spend some time with you and do something we don't normally do.” They did the equivalent of Netflix and chill back in the city, so no room service dinners… At least not tonight. “What do you think?”

Quote:
The "ilk" comment got a chuckle out of him as he finally closed the trunk; it was odd to see such a jealous side coming from Abby as he'd never known her to be this way for most of the time that he'd known her, and he'd known her since he was what? Eight, maybe nine years old? Still, it was endearing in a way and he couldn't help but take her by the waist to pull her in for a quick kiss.

"Sounds good," he replied before beginning to walk her to her side of the car. "I really should take you out to go dancing more often, considering how much you love it. Feels like it should be on our 'what we normally do' list." Granted, clubs seemed like another place where it would put either of them in a position to be jealous--it wasn't like women dressed modestly when they went clubbing, nor did guys typically know how to keep their hands off of whoever they were dancing with. Not that Abby would let just anyone touch her of course, but all the same there was a chance…

The flash of jealousy was his turn to be had, though he didn't voice it as much. Still, instead of opening her car door he leaned her up against it and kissed her again, something more lingering but equivalent to the way she kissed him right after she reminded him that he was hers. She was his as well, and the idea of other guys all over her in a club made him squirm...so when he eventually pulled away he added, "but the stroll sounds just as good. We can always wait and see how we feel after dinner before deciding where to go after."

Quote:
Abby enjoyed his kiss, willingly being pulled into him and felt a little disappointed when he pulled away to walk her to the side of the car but she mentally shrugged and replied to his question, “Classes, training, patrolling… Life. Other more important things happen normally. Besides, it wouldn't be special if we went out dancing all the time.” She smiled and waited for him to get the door. Surprised when Cliff instead leaned her against the car and kissed her again. It was deeper and had a bit more ‘oomph’ behind it then the first kiss but it was still a publicly safe kiss. By the time he broke off the kiss Abby was contemplating changing her mind to ‘room service and a movie’ but she controlled her more base urges and just nodded. “Sounds good.”

Once they settled into the car their conversation drifted to the discussion of what they wanted to eat and what place would work best.
