Poultrygeist (10) : As Destiny City is a bustling metropolis, it’s not unexpected that there should be some strange animals running the streets. Sometimes it’s a tiger, sometimes a monkey, sometimes a chicken. Sometimes it’s something worse. Strange egg clusters have appeared in Destiny City’s parks and officials aren’t really sure what they are; these eggs have nothing inside of them. Though it’s an anomaly, they are chalking it up to teenaged pranks. However, they have advised to just leave the eggs as they are. Nobody wants to say why, but if you’re out late at night, you’ll find out. In the darkness, whispered between the sounds of the city: a guttural, rasping cluck. The creature stands on stilt-like legs, rooted to the ground with razor-sharp talons. It wears a cloak of long, oily feathers that drag on the ground with a sinister scraping. If you stare into the darkness, piercing red eyes stare back at you. That’s all it takes for a confrontation: a mangled bird, maybe a chicken in another life, comes barreling out at you. It stands easily as tall as a person, but the proportions are all wrong. The smell of sulfur follows it as it lunges, pecking and screaming and scratching as it attempts to chase you away. Maybe, from the nests full of empty eggs. The battles are fierce, but fleeting; it will viciously try to chase you away but the effects are always the same: at some point, the eggs are crushed. As always, there’s nothing inside of them, but with one final wail, the bird will vanish into a plume of foul smoke.

Note: If you choose to encounter one of these bird-like creatures, your character will recognize they are not youma. It is impossible to tell if it is a single entity or if there are many. The bird does not seem to understand or care to listen to human words. It will always disappear in a malodorous plume of smoke and leave nothing but a foul odor and a clutch of empty, broken eggs behind. This RP can be used as a battle requirement as long as there are two powered characters involved; you must be interacting with another player’s powered character. This does not count as the one youma battle per stage for growth. This can only be used as a battle requirement once per character, but there is no limitation for how many times a player can use this prompt.

Bamburgh hadn't sworn off eggs after that first encounter with the chicken from hell, but he'd been very, very close. The sulfuric stink seemed to cling for days afterward, though he was assured multiple times by the people around him that he was just imagining it, and that there hadn't been reports of that smell wafting about in the nighttime for several months now. Probably close to a year. So with time he relaxed and fell into his normal routines, and that evening was nothing more than a bad memory that he thought about only once in a while after he powered up and went on a patrol.

As he'd done tonight, only...

He sniffed once. Twice. By the third time he felt an impending sense of doom, and his eyes immediately fell to the ground. He must have looked like a mad man, slinking around slowly and carefully while hunched over and looking for something on the ground.

"It's just my imagination, there's nothing here," he repeated quietly under his breath as he went. "No eggs, no mangled dead-chicken-thing..."

Thaddeus would usually avoid powering up unless a situation absolutely called for it, with no other alternatives. Such was not typically the case when he went for evening treat-runs for his daughter and husband. Most days were very normal, very standard, low danger, low risk. And seeing something a little out of the ordinary wouldn't merit his interference.

But when he spotted an oddly-dressed man slinking low to the concrete, as if... hiding? Or searching for something? Thaddeus found his interest just... barely piqued enough to take a few steps forward, as if he was going to say something about it.

(He probably shouldn't... He couldn't see or hear anything specifically wrong- no one was being hurt, there wasn't a fight breaking out. Regal's signature would probably just make an altercation more likely, rather than less so. He should continue on with what he was doing and mind his own business... But if there was something here that he could be useful with- that wasn't a fight- maybe he should try. This time.)

He spared a quick glance around just to see if anyone else had their gaze on the Saturn Knight, but the roads seemed otherwise empty. With just the barest whisper of his pledge, Regal stood on the side of the road opposite to the Page, and for as much as he avoided powering up, his heart still warmed with the little flow of power and connection, tugging a gentle smile to his lips. All the better for it because he didn't sense any Chaos-affiliated auras. There was a certain stink in the air, but life in a city frequently lended itself to such.

Regal felt emboldened to approach, letting his attention wander curiously over the ground where the Page searched. "Um- Sir?" He invited, stepping slowly up to the other's side. "Are you searching for something?"

Bamburgh felt an Order signature blip into existence somewhere nearby, but finding the eggs and creature he would bet his favorite keyboard on was the cause of the stink in the air was just barely edged ahead in terms of importance for him. He spared whoever it was a glance when they approached, though he was still slinking about and searching even as he replied with a simple, "Eggs."

He took a couple of steps toward a cluster of bushes before continuing to speak while leaning over and crouching to see under them. "You smell that too, right? That rotten egg smell? See, the last time I smelled that in this town, I got attacked by a–

And as if on cue, a hellish, gurgling sort of crow erupted from just beyond where the Saturn Page now stood, frozen in fear for just a second before straightening up and looking straight ahead. That area seemed darker than the rest of the night had been so far, and staring into it yielded the expected result—two beady red eyes and the growing silhouette.

"That!" he half shouted, half yelped. His voice cracked as the words tumbled out of his mouth, and he scrambled to get out the freakish creature's way as it barreled toward them.

"...Eggs," Regal repeated, tone a little flat because he didn't really understand what was going on, exactly, and a part of him worried that this poor Page was under the influence of something to make him scuttle and shuffle around like this looking for eggs. "I can help if you think it would achieve anything," He offered- again, mostly out of concern rather than any actual belief that they would find something.

The smell wafting though the air- yes, Regal was definitely aware of it. But they lived in quite a large city; it wasn't uncommon for all manner of bad scents to be carried along on the breeze. Even one kind of sulfuric like this one... It just didn't strike him as necessarily odd enough to-

To...

There was some shriek in the darkness, some extra rank pulse of that rotten scent, some scraping of something long and sharp- talons. Red yes glinted through the darkness. The shadows shifted and swept backward, some creature with a mangled avian appearance strutting forward until it stood before them. 'That!' What was that?!

The Saturn man dove away as the creature advanced, and with a sharp yelp of shock and terror, Regal was on his heel. "You were looking for that thing?" Regal demanded as they ran. "Is it- is it some kind of pet? Some creature from Saturn?" It definitely looked spooky and putrid enough to call the planet of death home. And it didn't feel like a Youma. So it absolutely had to be something else, though Regal definitely didn't know what, and it charged them like it had some vendetta, screaming and screeching the entire time. "What does it want from you?!"

"I was looking for eggs!" Bamburgh cried out from where he lay on the floor, having tripped on his own feet in his efforts to get away from the poultry-flavored hellspawn. "And no it's not an optional pet from Saturn. I have no idea what it wants, but I doubt it's got anything to do with me specifically." The chicken gave another shriek as it turned and raced toward them again.

"Though I guess I see your point but– bloody hell. We can talk about it later. Focus!" He said the last word in such a way as to reflect that he was saying it to himself, before he continued with, "Okay. We have to find its eggs and crush them. It disappears once we do that."

As if on cue the demon chicken gave another shriek and sped up, lowering its head to become a bird-shaped battering ram. Bamburgh did his best to jump aside again, but being on all fours was awkward and he half succeeded. It caught his legs, so he did a half-spin in the direction of his escape and landed very ungracefully on his side, rolling a few times before coming to a stop.

"I'm alright!" he called out in a less than convincing voice. "Keep looking!"

He didn't get it, he didn't get it, hedidn'tgetit-

Regal still did not understand, in any capacity, what was actually happening (and maybe that contributed in some part to his general dissatisfaction with powering up: he didn't understand nearly anything about magic and its functions and the strange things that happened because of it). But given the situation, maybe it just didn't matter.

The Saturn Page at least had some kind of goal- some objective, and Regal could be useful toward it if he set himself to it. He didn't need to ask questions. He just needed to do.

And the thing in question was... find eggs.

And crush them- well, that seemed like a sad thing to do, and if he was a chicken monster and strangers started trying to crush his eggs, he wouldn't take kindly to it, either- Focus. That was irrelevant when the creature was as dangerous and violent as this one was. They had to get rid of it. Ideally without becoming too injured in the process. Which- okay, that part he could help with. ...Theoretically.

As someone who seldom powered up, it was just as infrequent that he had called his magic, but at least this wasn't the first time.

Regal dove down to the Saturn Page's side, grabbing an arm and hauling him back to his feet. "If we stay close together, I can shield us. It's not... Well, it won't be a perfect shield- it's not the strongest, but it's better than nothing..." It could protect him completely from weaker spells and attacks, but he somehow doubted this monster's full-bodyslams fell into the category.

Still, hefting his weapon a little higher, he willed the delicate plums of sweet-smelling smoke to spill forth, cascading to the ground and settling in a heavy shroud around their feet that trailed in wisps after them as they moved. "So we just have to find these eggs."

Regal watched as the creature shook out its oily feathers as it, too, picked itself up from trying to attack the Page, then rounded on them again with a mutinous look in its beady red eyes.

"Let's hurry!"

Squire Weapon -- A small, golden thurible exuding a sweet-smelling smoke.
Magic -- The smoke swirls around up to two targets, creating a barrier that protects them from attacks up to Regal's rank, or diminishing the severity of attacks cast by someone of higher rank. He can channel for 40 seconds.
