Current Micromissions:

These mission are time sensitive with a deadline and may be completed by multiple members. These will also change as the guild story progresses (read: after each Team Mission) and affect things accordingly (if multiple members do the same mission we will attempt to make them all canon, no promises). Members who do these will also be rewarded for their efforts.

If you wish to do one of the current micromissions with multiple people you may do so as a Side RP but the deadline still applies. Notify me if you plan to do this and with whom.

Once the micromission is finished, be it by just yourself or as a pair/group, post it (or a link to it) in here and alert the administration about it. The micromission will then be marked as completed. Should all of the current micromissions be completed, we may refresh them or add new ones as needed.

Complete three micromissions in the current arc and receive a special reward.

-Threat Levels-

Threat Levels give you an idea on the kind of difficulty you should expect on these missions, such as the strength of the Pokemon you should face. Since micromissions typically provide you little information on exactly what to expect Threat Levels should give you a better idea on what you should be facing. Some rounds of micromissions may not be as high of a threat as others but the stakes will rise as the story arc progresses.

Green: Little to no threat, foes would be more annoying than anything.

Yellow: Mild threat, foes could be a hindrance but nothing too challenging.

Orange: Medium threat, foes can be challenging.

Red: High threat, foes will be extremely challenging.

Black: Extreme threat, expect the highest degree of resistance from your enemies.

Lifting Spirits

Threat Level: Green

Things have been bad for the time, real bad and for some time. With the constant barrage of stressors morale is at an all time low. Why don't you do something to maybe lift people's spirits up? Maybe make a big meal, throw a party, plan a movie night, maybe bring everyone gifts, something. Think of something that will lift everyone's spirits and make all the plans and arrangements required.

(This mostly just involves your character planning everything out and once you finish this we can roleplay out the reaction to your character's surprise in the HQ thread. Be creative to pad this one out.)

How You Doing, Jenny?

Threat Level: Yellow

Judge Jenny, the judge that preceded over our trial, was injured in Rainbow Cyrus' attack on the Viridian City Gym, the woman left in critical condition. The judge however was polite and fair to Team Snagem, a rare woman of dignity and respect. As such Sub thinks someone should go check on Judge Jenny and see how she is doing, not only to check in on a woman deserving of such respect but to also let the world see we are not monsters. Go to Celadon Hospital and check on the woman on behalf of Team Snagem but do note the woman has a rotating guard of Gym Leaders from across the world and that Gym Leader may not be so receptive to you seeing the judge. They might even threaten you with their Pokemon but I don't expect it to turn into a full blown battle. Try to use your words to gain access to the judge. Be sure to let Judge Jenny know we hope she recovers quickly and how much we respect her.

Look Here, Looker

Threat Level: Yellow

Looker as the world's foremost investigator and head of SWIPE is a man of tremendous knowledge, knowing the ins and outs of many things in the world and what he doesn't know he has access to untold pools of knowledge. We know Looker has retreated for the time being to his old stomping grounds in Lumiose City, the Looker Bureau, leaving the management of SWIPE to Emma while he does some personal investigating on all the current matters at hand. Head to the Looker Bureau and have a talk with Looker and see if he can't provide you with any information on Cruxias, any history he may have on the guy. Right now Snagem is still in legal limbo, not directly up for arrest but we are on thin ice as such Looker may not be receptive to talking and if you push too hard he may push back. It is also possible he has SWIPE body guards to be aware of that. If Looker agrees to give you any information INTERPOL or SWIPE has on Cruxias he'll give it to you preloaded onto a Holocaster.

(This mission could become an Orange Level threat if SWIPE agents get involved. Your choice if you want to make it more of a fight.)

Shadows of Almia

Threat Level: Orange

After our first encounter with the wacky Team Dim Sun we discovered a surprisingly powerful artifact in the Red Gem, something GRAY believes he could use as a consistent power source beyond that of even the Zapdos Heart if he also had the other two gems, Blue and Yellow, to balance them out. With the trio he would have enough energy to solve even the most difficult problems in seconds, a tremendous upgrade for the AI as we are already struggling to power him. Fortunately we know where the other two gems are in Almia, unfortunately those localities are crawling with SWIPE. Head to either Almia Castle or Hippodown Temple in the Almia region, it is there you will find SWIPE who are working to clear out the remains of Team Dim Sun, arresting the stragglers and seizing their property. Somewhere in those locations are the gems, perhaps already found by Dim Sun or SWIPE, maybe still hidden. Find the gem and escape back to Trainer Hill.

(You will have to fight SWIPE agents and maybe even Dim Sun grunts depending on the progress of SWIPE's takeover of these locations, that is if they already defeated Team Dim Sun there are not. The gems will also wildly fire off energy if activated with the Blue Gem containing Ice energy and the Yellow Gem Psychic.)

Investigate the Sky Pillar

Threat Level: Orange

Cruxias wields an artifact known as the Heaven's Pillar, a mystical artifact once protected by the Draconid people of the Sky Pillar, an artifact once believed to not even exist. The artifact's true abilities were once lost to time but we now know it acts as a way finder to locate other artifacts, particularly the orbs that hold aspects of the Dragons of Creation. It is with this that Cruxias found the Lustrous Orb. We know the Heaven's Pillar staff was found at the Sky Pillar but besides everything already stated that's all we know about it. Journey to the Sky Pillar and do a bit of digging, see if you can't find anymore information on the Heaven's Pillar so that we might understand its functions better and maybe find a clue as to how to defeat Cruxias. The more knowledge we have the better.

(You will encounter all the normal wild Pokemon found here but once you reach the tower's highest point with all the murals you will be attacked by Zinnia the Lorekeeper who will engage you in battle as she mistakes you for one of those that stole the Heaven's Pillar. Defeat Zinnia and she will help you research the Heaven's Pillar. We can expand on what your character learns once they report back to HQ.)

Extract the Alchemist

Threat Level: Red

After our encounter with Cruxias it can safely be assumed that he is a unique type of Psychic Channeler that wields only the Pokemon Unown (though usually just a single Unown, multiple unheard of), a type of Channeler that is only known to come from a certain clan; the Tanoby Clan. This is the same clan that our friend and ally Ambrosia the Alchemist is part of. Unfortunately we lost contact with her when SWIPE took over our HQ but if we are to better understand our enemy we must seek out the one person that may have knowledge pertaining to him. Sneak into Mt. Silver and make your way to Ambrosia's chamber inside the mountain's cave system and relocate her to Trainer Hill. SWIPE will no doubt be crawling over the place as well as all the powerful wild Pokemon native to the area. Also remember you will not be able to teleport in nor out of the Mt. Silver range so you'll have to escape on foot until you are out of scrambler range.

(If you need any advice on how Ambrosia acts as a character or anything feel free to ask.)

Hey A.T.H.R.A.?

Threat Level: Red

Back at Realgam Fortress we discovered an old AI invented by Ein known as A.T.H.R.A. or Automated Tactical Hostile Response Apparatus. Despite its inventor this AI was fairly neutral and could be reasoned with, utilitarian and literal. (See pages 11-13 in The Road to Hell RP for more involving A.T.H.R.A.) With GRAY's power source downgraded after being relocated his computation abilities have been severely diminished and so it would be helpful to have a more powerful AI to aid us with figuring out what is happening to our world. Head back to Realgam Fortress, which should be a little more safe now thanks to SWIPE, who will still be crawling the place, and our own work to clean it out, and find A.T.H.R.A. again in the lower levels. Convince the AI to provide information on the current state of our world, our reality. We know the AI is constantly monitoring things and Ein was at least partially aware of the early signs of the cracks in our world so who knows what A.T.H.R.A. might know. Maybe GRAY could also speak to them, AI to AI.

(Your character might have to fight SWIPE agents as well as mutant Pokemon still in the tower. A.T.H.R.A. may also initially attack them. Any data the AI gives them will be uploaded to your SNAG to view later.)

Dim Sun Break

Threat Level: Black

Times are getting desperate with our enemies as strong as ever while we are at our weakest. With SWIPE in control of our HQ our resources are limited, including GRAY computation power. We need control of our HQ back if we are to get all our resources back to fight Cruxias at full strength. While we might never have the manpower to directly take back over the Mt. Silver HQ, least not without great cost, we can perhaps sabotage things to weaken their control over the building. Besides acts of sabotage the biggest thing we could do is release Team Dim Sun who are imprisoned there. If we were to break them out the HQ will no doubt collapse into chaos, requiring SWIPE to detain them again before they escape least they have egg on their face. Even better if you aid in Dim Sun's quick escape as you must remember the teleportation scrambler is in effect across the mountain. This will no doubt be dangerous and you risk being captured yourself, good luck.

(This one will involve a lot of clashing with wild Pokemon and SWIPE agents who will definitely try to arrest you again and not let you escape.)

~*~

While Keiko and Abby were talking to the rest of the team in HQ, I was in the barracks reading over the missions Sub had put up. I saw a couple I was interested in, and with help from Claydol, getting both of them done in a day seemed doable, assuming the people I had to talk to in the latter mission didn't give me TOO much trouble. Looking over to the girls, I noticed they were both lying down. But while Serena was actually asleep, Yuna was just lying there, her emotional state radiating boredom. I knew this temporary hideout wasn't as big as HQ, so she couldn't go exploring like she used to, and I felt sorry for her. I fiddled with my SNAG for a bit, then let Indie(Indeedee) and Rala(Gardevoir) out of their Pokeballs.

This got Yuna to perk right up. She had enjoyed spending time with those two in the past, but due to her captivity in HQ under SWIPE's thumb, she'd developed a close bond with both of them. 'Daddy's gonna step out for a while," I told her as I stood up. "You can play with Rala and Indie while I'm gone, but don't wake your sister up and try not to get in anybody else's way, okay?" I asked. I knew it wasn't easy for her to play here, but hopefully Rala and Indie could entertain her for a while. "I should be back in a couple of hours. If you need anything, or if your sister starts crying, Rala will let me know," I told her, reaching into my right front pocket and grasping the Betyl Stone. Long distance telepaty was difficult even with the use of my Artifact, but Rala just needed to focus one Gardy-esque scream into it and that'd be sign enough for me to know to come back and see what's up. She had enough control over her telepathy to be able to do that and not have anyone else hear it. "Okay, daddy!" Yuna cheered before leaping up and hugging Rala, who was happy to return the gesture of affection. Pulling out my SNAG, I sent a text message to GRAY for the use of Claydol. GRAY didn't send one back. Or respond in any way. I found that surprising until I remembered that his computational power was not what it was when he was installed in HQ. Had to leave parts of himself there would be my guess. Claydol appeared before me after a moment, and I had it teleport me to Celadon City.

The walk from the Celadon Pokemon Center to the Celadon Hospital took a bit longer than I expected. The streets were jam-packed with people for some reason. I couldn't fathom why - some sale going on in the Celadon Department Store, maybe? - and I didn't bother asking anybody. Getting into a fight or drawing attention to myself before even getting to the hospital would be a grave mistake to make, so I did my best to meld into the crowd. That worked for a while, but as the hospital came into view the crowd thinned considerably. Whatever had them coming here in droves, the hospital wasn't involved, though it wasn't like I was the only one approaching it. Fortunately, I got to the door without being disturbed. According to the sign there, I was ten minutes early for visiting hours to start. I considered walking away, maybe seeing what all the buzz was about. As I looked around me, however, I decided against that and headed inside to wait in the lobby. For all I knew, once visiting hours started, this place would be swarmed with people.

Once inside, I took a seat, pulled out my SNAG, and messaged Keiko to let her know that I had stepped away to do small jobs for the guild and that Rala and Indie were watching the kids, and that I'd be able to come back in a moment's notice on Rala's signal should either of them need anything. Keiko responded back shortly after, wishing that I'd told her BEFORE I left, but was otherwise fine with it. With her hearing, she'd be able to pick up either of their cries and likely get there before I could. As I considered responding to that, one of the hospital staff tried to get my attention. "Sir, do you need assistance?" she asked. Judging by her nameplate, she was one of the nurses. Was the hospital that badly short-staffed? I didn't take time to contemplate that. "I'm here to see Judge Jenny and pay my respects, but from what I've seen, you don't open to visitors..." I trailed off. I noticed she was looking around the lobby as if seeing if anyone would catch her doing something illegal. Before I could ask, she grabbed my shoulder. "Come with me," she whispered before power-walking down a hallway. Concerned, but curious, I followed her. Once the lobby was out of sight, she slowed down, as running down the halls was not only VERY ill-advised in a hospital, but also against the rules. Especially for someone who works there. It could be excused in an emergency, but that was not the case. As I walked beside her, she explained her situation. "We moved the start of visiting hours up an hour to give us time to prepare for the influx of visitors," she explained. "Judge Jenny has been recieving a great deal of love and support from the Pokemon Trainer community after that horrible trial she got injured in, but that many people coming to visit one person is a lot for us to deal with." She didn't elaborate further, and I had yet to explain who I came here to represent. Before either of us could say anything else, however, we heard a shout coming from the lobby. Apparently, SOMEBODY was in the lobby, saw that I was being given slightly advanced access to the local celebrity, and thought it'd only be fair to let people waiting outside know that visiting time came a little early. The nurse sighed at that. "Darn it, old man Connely!" she cursed under her breath before looking to me. "I gotta go. The judge's room is at the end of the hall, straight ahead," she told me before running off to the service desk.

I made my way, trying my best to ignore the shouting as I kept an eye out ahead of me while I walked. The hallway itself was empty, though by the time I got to the end of it, I saw someone leaning against the door that, from what I could tell, led to Judge Jenny. I cursed my luck when I realized who it was. I'd seen him at the start of that trial, after all. "Well, well, well, what do we have here?" Lt. Surge smirked maliciously as he recognized me. Leaning off the door to stand up straight, he immediately grabbed one of the Pokeballs and started throwing it upwards, only to catch it and throw it up agian in a loop. "I've been hoping for the chance to deal with you and your friends ever since that trial," he jeered. "My Raichu's been itching for some action lately. So go ahead. Give me a reason."

I put my hands up to show that I had no intention of acting out of turn, a motion he didn't seem fond of at all. "I came here to give the judge well wishes and impart Snagem's respect for her," I said plainly. He didn't seem all to happy with my attempts to calm him down, either. "Respects, huh?" he scoffed. "I'm sure 'respect' is what got you on SWIPE's radar to begin with. Figures I finally run into a Snagem and he's a bleeding-heart pacifist." I couldn't know what drove the lieutenant to such animosity toward Snagem, but claiming I was a pacifist had to have been a joke. "I'm more than willing to give you a battle, but it'll have to be outside. A hospital is no place for a battle," I insisted. Lt. Surge seemed to consider that option, catching and holding his Raichu's ball, but then shrugged. "Nah. Don't want you running to your Daddy to get him to try to buy my badge for you. Not that I'd take his dirty money," he huffed.

I was taken aback, filled with bewilderment and rage in equal measure. I've never had my honor as a Pokemon Trainer challenged in such away. And dirty money!? Since when did working at one of the largest corporations in the known world consitute illicit funds!? There was NO way I could let this tand. "When I'm READY for your badge, I'll come to your Gym and EARN it. I don't know who's been LYING to you, but I have STANDARDS as a Pokemon Trainer!" I insisted, trying to control my voice. We were still in a hospital, after all. Lt. Surge just smiled at me, though. "That's not what my friends in Unova have been saying," he jeered before putting the ball he was holding back in his belt and opening the door that lead to Judge Jenny. "This place is rigged to the nines with teleport scramblers, and I've got SWIPE on speed dial. So don't try anything. Or do. You can't imagine how boring this 'guard dog' job has been." he warned before stepping out of the way.

I walked into the room with no intention of closing the door behind me, but it closed anyway - likely Surge's doing. I was still livid about what Surge said about me and my father, but I did my best to calm down. I'd go figure out what was up after Cruxias was dealt with. With any luck, that criminal was the culprit of the mark against my honor as a Trainer, but that didn't matter, now. I approached the injured judge quietly in case she was asleep, but that quickly proved to not be the case as she called out to me. "I'm surprised Surge let you in here," she spoke up as I approached. "You'll have to forgive me. I saw you cast your lot in with Team Snagem, but I don't believe I ever caught your name," she explained. Her voice was low, and I couldn't quite tell whether it was due to her injury or if she was trying to keep her voice down. Her emotional state was nearly impposible for me to get ahold of as well, and I suspected it'd be hard to detect even if Rala was standing right next to me - perhaps the work of some Ebonite on her person or about the room? "Terashi Neil Toumei, your honor," I introduced myself, only for her to shake her head gently. "That's not neccessary. I won't be fit for duty for a good while," she explained. I nodded at that, respecting her wishes for less formal discourse. "I'm here on behalf of Team Snagem. We wish you a speedy recovery and would like to convey our respect. You dealt with us fairly and with dignity during the Viridian City trial, and we wanted to make sure you know that your fair dealings with us are deeply appreciated,"

"Understood, Mr. Toumei," Judge Jenny responded calmly. "I wish I could accomodate you properly as a guest, but I can hear the crowd from here, so you may want to get going," she pointed out. I could hear them, too - some were outraged that the hospital didn't keep their own rules regarding visiting hours, others were just anxious to get on with it, but all were getting steadily louder. And unlike the good judge, their emotions were clear as day to me, mixed though they were. I nodded to the judge and headed out, opening the door to get through and closing it behind me. I didn't get far, though. Some vines quickly wrapped around my torso and pulled me to the side, away from the door and from the path the crowd were on to it. As I turned my head to see what had grabbed me, I was surprised to find Erina standing next to the Victreebell that had me bound with its singular vine. "You have five seconds to explain yourself," Erina insisted quietly, though not so quiet that I couldn't make out what she was saying, given the crowd. "I was just wishing the Judge a speedy recovery," I insisted. She didn't seem to buy it, though. "You expect me to believe you got in ahead of the crowd, somehow snuck AROUND Surge, and you didn't so anything?" she asked in a demanding tone. I held in my sigh - I wasn't surprised that Surge didn't vouch for me.

"I checked the cams," Lt. Surge shouted to Erina as he approached us. "He took the coward's way out and didn't try anything." He smiled for a moment, but seemed somewhat surprised when Erina lashed out at him verbally. "You assured me there was noone in there other than the Judge!" she hissed, clearly making an effort to not be heard by the crowd. Surge's smirk returned after he processed Erina's rage. "Yeah. I was hoping you'd give him trouble on his way out. Thought it'd be interesting to see what you'd do." I couldn't help but compare the lieutenant to Chaos in his prime, the way he dripped in malice, though he kept his language clean, at least. He probably wouldn't appreciate the comparison if I pointed it out. Erina, meanwhile, seemed nothing but irate at her fellow Gym Leader, though she seemed to think better of insulting him openly. Instead, she turned her wrath to me. "You're leaving. Now," she growled, her Victreebell increasing the tightness of its vine around my body to emphasize its trainer's anger. "Yes, ma'am," I replied, eager to display my willingness to cooperate. Erina didn't speak after that - though Surge saw fit to flip me off as I was dragged away. Once Erina had led me to the hospital's back entrance, she had her Victreebell launch me forward, causing me to land roughly on the grassy plain surrounding the hospital. I was very fortunate to have missed the concrete sidewalk leading up to the hospital's back entrance. After a small fit of coughing, I picked myself and dusted myself off. I counted the lack of blood in my coughing among the many instances of good fortune I had that day and made my way back to the Pokemon Center, not wanting to call upon Claydol in the open.

As I headed back, I noticed that the streets were significantly less crowded than they were earlier, though they were pretty far from empty. That's one mystery solved, I supposed. Once in the Pokecenter, I dialed up GRAY and got Claydol to bring me back to HQ.

Mission

Night had fallen over Lumiose City in the Kalos region. A black vehicle that looked way out of place that was traveling through the streets, making their way around Rouge Plaza and started to turn down into a narrow street. The car would pull up alongside of a building, behind another vehicle that was identical to it. One SWIPE member came out first. Kess, the Zapdos hybrid claiming to have been reformed, trying to atone for her acts while under Ein’s employ. She would reach down, scavenging an item from the passenger seat of the vehicle before closing the door behind her and brandished a blade at her side. Hinterbane, reappropriated for her use presumably post the raid on Team Snagem headquarters, fashioned with a brand-new sword sheath that it never had as far as anyone knew. She would then walk back to the rear seat, opening the door and letting out the passenger. Looker would step out, adjusting his coat as Kess closed the door behind him. Both then made their short walk to the building, but before either one of them made it to the door, the door would open up. A SWIPE operative was inside, greeting Looker and Kess before they made their way into the building. While the one that allowed Looker and his escort inside was dressed in uniform, it was only an illusion to hide their numbers. There were others, dressed in plain clothes, trying to go about as if they are part of Lumiose life. That being said, it wasn’t really that great of numbers. Maybe to keep SWIPE’s presence low key for the moment and not draw attention to the likes of Looker. The occasional operative making a brisk jog, accompanied by a Growlithe. Another one sitting casual at a nearby café. One on the rooftop terrace…out cold under my foot.

I had to be put on the proverbial bench after the fight with the other world’s Cyrus and the Dialga that he had in tow. And in the time leading up to Sub raring to go to hunt this otherworld Cyrus with our world’s Cyrus, trying to rally up whoever he could rally up, I was left to my devices. I was quiet. Hours were lost me trying to recollect everything that happened from the start of this insanity, from SWIPE’s emergence, to the evidence brought against us and the discrepancies that some started to realize in them, to the people coming back alive like Bulder and the ones rescued from Ein’s tower no longer such as if we never did so to begin with, to Volo and Aden’s involvement, to Cruxis, to the Ultra Recon Squad. And what made it all the more maddening, was thanks to the Ultra Recon Squad in particular, they singlehandedly managed to not only neuter the likes of Darts and Crystal in a time where we needed all the strength we could to deal with that, they also left a massive cloud of doubt when it came to me. In spite of trying all this time as long as I had been with Snagem, they were all starting to fear me in some fashion or another. In spite of Sub’s trying to save face, even going so far as telling me that I was a good person and such, it did little because of that mere act of him asking for the information the Recon Squad had gave everyone that notion that there was potentially something to worry about. I admit, it probably didn’t help my position any when I went off on Deo for his exposed betrayal in the trial. For that matter, requesting to Sub to delete that information when he offered was probably going to make me look all the worse to perhaps him and most certainly the others if I had told him to. A classic catch twenty-two.

Since then, I was driven on pure, unadulterated spite and determination to solve everything. I had to, because otherwise, I felt I was doomed to begin with. I already had little agency to begin with all that had been going on, and after Sub took that information from the Recon Squad, I wasn’t waiting around for the last of that agency to be taken out of some unfounded fear of his or whatever excuse he or anyone else could find. Unfortunately, in the midst of my note taking and recollections of the events, there were blanks that I needed filled in. Questions I needed answered. Answers I wasn’t getting sitting at the headquarters.

It wasn’t until one afternoon a week after the events of the courtroom, Sub called for a meeting. I had been sitting by myself until I made my way down. Off around a corner, as everyone paid attention to Sub, they were going to make the attack on the other world Cyrus. As I stood there out of sight, pressure down so some of the more preceptive Snagems couldn’t pick me up easily, I couldn’t help but to ache fiercely from where the Dialga struck me in that courtroom, but yet Sub was calling for an attack on the other world Cyrus and his Dialga. I wasn’t fit for another fight of that kind of intensity; not yet anyways. Tristen and Freth were going to go, however…I wasn’t comfortable with that either, I had to admit, but there was nothing I could do. Before I went back to go hide in my hiding spot, I then overheard something. Ulla asked about Looker, wondering where he ran off to since the trial. GRAY would mention to her that he had ran off to the Kalos region, according to some tabloid. No reasoning why, however. Sub did mention just before that a good chunk of SWIPE was trying to clean up everything around the Viridian City gym post that major fight. Something clicked to me just then. Hearing that had me rushing back to my hiding spot in the Trick Maze floor. As soon as I got there, I grabbed my notes, skimming them back over. All this started because of evidence that SWIPE gotten. Evidence that was false, mind, but evidence nonetheless. I needed information. I needed questions answered. I needed people held accountable. I needed this to end.

I stood there, over that table I fretted over for hours on end for a solid week until that moment. I considered everything at that moment, realizing that if I decided to go out on my own, I had to commit to it and I had to do it right the first time. No second chances, no quarter. With a sigh, I’d fold the papers with my notes into my pocket. I then took out my SNAG, looking at it for a moment, then sat it down on the table. Once most everyone left to go blitz the Ruins of Alph, I would skulk out as well, off into the opposite direction. I could only hope at this point Freth and Tristen would forgive me for what may happen.

Here I am now, staring down the Looker Bureau, a home away from home of sorts for this crackpot detective. If I was to be intensely direct, I’d have SWIPE swarm me and effectively instigate a hunt and attack on Snagem before they realize that I’m effectively a rogue agent at this point, not that it would really matter that much. They’re probably back to looking for some excuse just as they did when we were out trying to take out Dim Sun that day. I didn’t need Freth and Tristen caught up in something like that all the while trying to put out whatever proverbial fires that constantly crop up because I couldn’t so much as keep a temper in check or made a wrong move. I just had to figure out what on earth to do. I have to admit, I am not thrilled at what I just saw. I was hoping that Looker would have brought along his hot-headed confidant in the expansion suit. But not only it was Kess, I find myself extremely pissed off because someone else was not wanting to leave that blade alone. Given everything, I am almost betting Kess knows good and well what she has her hands on, or at least what that thing is capable of. Never mind I would have preferred to not end up fighting her. While she is no Dialga and at least she wasn’t going to take me out with one shot, she was still going to be problematic. And that wasn’t taking Hinterbane or any lingering injuries into consideration.

I didn’t necessarily need Looker. If he was using this office as effectively another branch for SWIPE, then I had to just get into anything physical he had in his office. But as I contemplated what I needed to hope to find, I started to notice something. The operatives that I managed to point out started to converge back towards Looker’s office. The one with the Growlithe was on the move, a bit of a fast pace at that. Looking back towards the café, the one at the table was gone. It took a couple of seconds to register, but then I looked at the one out cold under my foot. I turned him over, him still out cold and started to search him. Phones, devices, anything. I checked the jacket he wore, checking his pockets, checked around his head, seeing if he had any sort of ear piece perhaps. I notice that underneath the casual clothes, he too had an expansion suit on, practically skin tight under the casual clothes and on the collar, a receiver. “Son of a…” I whispered to myself. They were probably trying to call him, maybe to check in. You can’t answer back if you’re not conscious to do so.

I left the man and ran off behind the roof access door, hiding around the corner of it. It was no more than a minute before the door flew open and the agent from the café saw his downed comrade. I turned the corner and ambushed him, greeting him with a hard kick across the torso and quickly landing a few blows. The expansion suit, doing what it was made to do, quickly snapped a helmet into place around the operative’s head and the suit started to absorb the blows as best as it could. Unfortunately for him, he still had the limits of peak human effectively overall. As he tried to fight back, he would lunge and fire from his wrist a ring-shaped object. I quickly parried his arm in the process of it, missing me entirely and I would counter attack, driving a fist right in to his ribs, then quickly drive a foot into one of his knees, making it buckle and bringing him to the ground on one knee. Helpless, still caught up in my grasp, I drive an elbow into his helmet, cracking the shield. Frustrated, I would go and tear the helmet off of him. He would manage to quickly stand up and take a swing, but as he did so, I would toss the helmet aside and fiercely sweep his legs hard enough he went completely horizontal in the air for that split second. In that instant, before he hit the ground from that, I was already back up and drove my fist right down into his face, driving his head into the roof and took him out of the fight. Once I was sure the operative was out, I looked over towards behind me to look at what he tried to shoot at me. I picked it up off the ground and stared at it, growing ever more disgusted. “Tch…another one of those blasted collars…figures.” I said silently to myself.

I stashed the collar in a vest pocket, and as soon as I did, I heard a door open from the roof access. I ran back over and into the roof access, looking down the stairwell. It was a panic run up the flights of stairs, someone trying to get to the top in a hurry. It was the other operative. It had to be. I jumped down the middle of the stairwell. Floor by floor pass by me in a blink before I gave a hard flap of the wings to slow myself down, landing on a stair well, then quickly turned around. The operative with the Growlithe went wide eyed at the sight of me, just before he got the perfect look of my leg before it went right into his head. The Growlithe scrambled, trying not to get crushed himself on the stairwell as the operative tumbled down the access to the floor below. I jumped down the flight of steps and pounced on him, started to wail away just as the helmet slapped shut around his head to try to protect him. Unfortunately for him, a helmet could only do so much being in a compromised position and dealing with an Articuno hybrid that had enough crap to last a life time. The Growlithe would start running after me, then made a flying leap at me, fangs lit ablaze. Instinctively, I raised my arm up as the hound clamped down on it. “OW! GAH!” As I tried to whip the loyal hound off, the operative managed to quickly get up and get his bearings and start trying to help his partner by trying to take swings at me. One of his strikes, a kick, managed to get me right in the ribs, where I was still tender from Dialga. “AUGH! Blast it!” Frustrated, I practically threw the Growlithe off of me, then focused on the operative who was trying to take another several swings at me. I ended up blocking his shots then quickly retaliated, each blow targeted, the damage too much for his expansion suit to disperse. I quickly snatched and tore off his helmet then swung it at him, smacking him hard in the head with it, then before he knew it, I grabbed him and drove his head into the metal stair railing. The loud metal clang heralded his loss of consciousness there in the stairwell. The Growlithe, still raring to go came back up, scrambling up the stairs again to try to help his master, but it would be in vein when he came running, an Ice Beam blasted it back, knocking the fight out of it for a second. “Well, they know I’m here now…” I said, irritated. I then had a thought about something, taking the collar back out of my vest pocket, then stared at the Growlithe that was starting to shake his head and trying to get back into the fight again. “…hmm…”

I was about to try something, but as I started to hear doors open up from down below, I realized I probably wouldn’t have the time. I then bolted back up the stairs and slammed through the access door back to the roof then made the mad dash across the roof, taking a hard leap across it to the next roof. A mad sprint and another leap. I’d clear at least two or three buildings before jumping down and making a mad dash to a nearby alley. I had to think…I needed anyone else weeded out that I may have not have pointed out weeded out and perhaps lure Looker out of the building, or at least get him alone, because I doubted he was going to put up that much of a fight. And certainly, Kess was not going to resist an opportunity to take me out of commission, too, especially knowing good and well that these guys were effectively cannon fodder, provided she figures out it was me who is here, so I needed her distracted as well. As I tried quickly to think, I then took notice to a nearby tree in a planter in the concrete sidewalk. My lure. A Pansage was dozing around in a tree, an odd sight to see in Kalos in my opinion, but nothing I was complaining about. I quickly rushed out of the alley and rushed the tree, snatching the grass monkey. The Pansage yelped out, practically shrieked out of surprise when I grabbed it and slapped the collar on the grass Pokémon. As soon as I dropped it, the grass Pokémon fled immediately, trying to get away from its attacker out of pure fear and instinct. I would then rush off back towards the alleys and ducking into them.

As I started to make my way back through, I started to hear movement. I ducked down nearby a dumpster, trying to keep my presence as low as I could get. Several more people gathered together. “Did you see anyone?”

“No, did you?”

“Wait, I got a lock. It’s an activated collar. Ha! I guess that maybe worth the concussion…”

“We’ll treat him to coffees and medals after we get this guy, we need-“

“Report!” A voice called out, femine and commanding, coming down from the skies. I had to concentrate, trying to keep my pressure down and stay out of sight. Kess landed close by the group, addressing the operatives.

“Sir. We got a collar lock. Heading northeast towards Rouge Sector 8.”

“Towards the northern boulevard?” Kess asked. “Not heading towards Route 14, and a bit out of the way to get to Lumiose Station. Trying to hide. Block off the exits and converge.” She commanded. The operatives would scramble, but Kess would be the last to leave, as if she was contemplating something. I stood out of sight, eyes closed, trying to concentrate managing my own power. I didn’t know how well her senses were or anything of that sort, but I didn’t want to instigate a fight right here, right now, now that I knew that Looker had to have been alone. Or if nothing else, one more cannon fodder operative by his side that was easily taken out. She would then take flight off back into the night sky. I hesitated moving again, wanting to make absolutely sure that Kess was gone, then started my way off back towards Looker’s office.

Quickly, I stayed under the cover of darkness, moving through the alleys, darting across streets and found my way back to the outskirts of Rouge Plaza, where Looker’s office was located. I looked around and started my way to the office. I rushed to a window and looked inside, senses on high alert. I was trying to see where Looker was, trying to see if there were any other operatives around. I noticed Looker moving around the office, he was talking on a headset, perhaps coordinating the operatives. I couldn’t hear what he was saying. I didn’t see the other operative that was in uniform, and I wondered if he had ran out to help. As I quickly checked, peering in the windows, I couldn’t see anyone else. Even if there was someone in a blind spot in the room, it didn’t matter, I could take him out. I had to commit. I was probably not going to get another shot at this…

As I noted Looker making his way to the front, I rushed for the front as well. I was going to ambush him. As I turned the corner, I darted to the front door. I could see it. Kick the door, catch him off guard, knock him out if need be, get info, leave. I had all manner of questions I need to demand out of him or anything he had laying around in his office. Where he got his information from. Cruxias’s connect to SWIPE. How long this investigation had been going on. If they were aware of the inconsistencies in what was going on around them, like the fact Bulder was alive, the people in Orre in Realgam Tower was dead, the actions of Snagem of a whole, and SWIPE’s apparent willingness to condemn even the more virtuous members of the team, like Tristen and Doc Owl. For someone who is supposed to be some sort of bastion of ‘justice’ and supposed to be one of the world’s greatest detectives (ha right), even he wasn’t above committing a war crime or two himself and yet he’s being excused while the team gets put on effectively a mock trial for public display and humiliation.

I was at the door, set to kick it, but then my instincts tripped. A nightmare realized in that sudden instant. Quickly I darted off, disappearing away from the door with Agility. A massive lightning strike comes down where I once stood. As I stopped, turning back around to see where the attack landed, I perked up and got a massive look of a yellow and white blur coming down at me, slamming me into one of the two nearby SWIPE vehicles. I yelped out when I made impact with it, the damage from Dialga being made apparent. I quickly got on the defensive, blocking a few blows until I saw Hinterbane make its way down towards me. I weaved off towards the side, having the sword go right into the car through the roof. I thrusted my hand in front of me, firing an Ice Beam. My hand gets slapped aside when the shot gets fired, then I felt a kick go directly into my chest to kick me back and to pry Hinterbane free.

I staggered back, wincing a great deal, trying to suck up the pain from the clash. I looked ahead, seeing Kess there a short ways away, seeing Hinterbane brandished. Staring me down and ready to take me out. Looker made his way out of his office, seeing the standoff. “You lot only had one job, given one chance, to stay low, out of sight, and out of trouble after Viridian City, and here you are, assaulting SWIPE operatives.” Looker spoke up.

“I wasn’t here to fight, Looker. But you have to admit there wasn’t a good way to get your attention either without it being so hastily interpreted as hostile. You know, your biases and all.” I said. “And its in those biases that allows you to interpret the situation however you want to and bury whoever you want to bury.”

“And I suppose sending the majority of us across the city was your way of trying to keep the peace. I knew something wasn’t right when that collar was activated. You’re not one to let something to happen twice easily.” Kess said. “Though very uncharacteristic that you decide to do this and you haven’t let yourself fully recover from Dialga. I can see it on you. You’re still hurt.”

“I’m not the one you need to be worry about…or maybe you should since you’re carrying that sword. I do not care for anyone carrying that blade. Not even me.” I said. “I swear to God, I don’t know why everyone wants to take a swing with it but I am honestly sick of it. That blade has been through far too much.”

“Then what good is it otherwise?” Kess stated. “It doesn’t matter. You got no say here and you condemned yourself by it. And soon, everyone else in Team Snagem at this rate.”

My eyes narrowed, severely irritated. I could practically feel my energy pressure spiking harder than my blood pressure to the tranquil fury that I have been trying to keep contained this entire ordeal so far. “I am here for information, and I am going to get it one way or another.” I said. “You entire lot have dragged me through the mud while you two galivant around spouting ‘justice this’ and ‘criminal war crime that’ all the while keeping anyone from finding out what is really going on; while forces beyond your blasted comprehension laughs at the both of us from afar, of course provided you’re not involved with the whole conspiracy altogether. At this point, I wouldn’t be surprised with much of anything anymore. One way or another, I’m going to get the information I am looking for, or at least leads to find what I am looking for. The question you better ask yourself right now in the next few seconds is how many subordinates, Looker, will it be worth to you before I get it.”

Looker, in perhaps a rare form, looked a bit disturbed. I wasn’t sure if I actually intimidated him, or if he started to doubt his convictions, or anything of the sort. In that brief moment, I could see it in his eyes. He was trying to calculate my chances. He tried to base this on all the information on everything he knew of in Snagem in general. Especially me. I could see it…he was worried. In spite of it all however, he still had a job he was resolved to perform to his utmost ability. He would give the command to the Zapdos hybrid. “Kess, lethal force authorized.”

“Understood.” Kess replied.

As both of our energies spiked, ready for a fight, Kess’ feet dug into the ground and she dashed towards me, Hinterbane at the ready, Looker would quickly back up as far as he could, not wanting to get caught up in the middle of what was to be a rather nasty brawl. He knew that it was going to be bad. The problem is…with all that has happened these past several weeks…he had no idea. He had just potentially consigned Kess to her end.

She started swinging the blade and I had to immediately go onto the defensive, already once being on the receiving end of Hinterbane once in my life no thanks to Eris. She would quickly give a few quick swipes, and I would quickly duck and weave but I would quickly step in, a quick elbow with one arm, switching to a swinging fist with the other arm, but before I could start to get any more momentum, Kess fiercely sparked and blasted electricity in all random directions to get me off of her. I yelled out as I got blasted back from the fierce electrical attack and hit the ground, writhing from the nasty super effective attack. Kess would quickly rush in, ready to end the fight immediately, and went to plant the blade right into me. Wide-eyed, I quickly rolled off to the side as the blade planted hard into the ground. I immediately scrambled up and thrusted a kick into her, kicking her away from the blade before she was able to pull it back up. Reeling back, I quickly adjusted stance and blasted an Ice Beam right at her before she could grab the blade again. She dodged out of the way, vanishing with her own Agility, the Ice Beam whizzing right by where she stood. Before I could react, she would give a fierce kick behind me, sending me tumbling off and skidding on the ground. I winced hard again, the injuries reminding me they were still there. I powered through it to get off the ground. Kess rushed for me, snatching up Hinterbane in the process.

Poised to claim a limb, probably a head, she brandished Hinterbane, ready to swing. I stepped in quick, catching her, stopping her swing, but her oncoming forces pushed me back, slamming me back into the already damaged SWIPE car. The passenger side windows blown out and the side dented in from the harsh impact. The two of us fought, trying to overpower one another. Kess leveraging herself, trying to push Hinterbane’s frosty edge into me. She would surge electricity, punishing me for even touching her. Everything was trying to seize up through the electrical current, trying to rob all fight to fend off the blade ready to claim my head. I reared back then thrusted my head forward, smashing into her own head, stopping the discharge and making her reel back. I quickly smashed a fist into her, but as soon as I did, she would retaliate, bringing the sword around fast and went to drop the sword down on me. I weaved off to the side, the sword going right into the car. As she pulled the sword back out of the frame, I reached over, grabbing her then flung her into the car, switching positions with her and started to try to strike her a couple of times, but she would give a hard swipe of Hinterbane, making me duck back. But in one swift movement, I threw my arm up and a massive icy pillar shot up out of the ground. Kess saw it coming, diving off to the side as the pillar of Ancientpower smashes into the car.

She would come after me and I would quickly leap back then take flight up. She would be in hot pursuit, refusing to let her quarry get away. She would start speeding up, speeding right for me then vanished. My instincts tripped and I stopped in mid-air, stopping short of Kess slashing me with the blade. But in one swift aerial motion, she managed to drive a kick right into me. I couldn’t withstand the shot and went tumbling back down towards the ground. I managed to stop myself but Kess was already in pursuit. As she once again came down with the blade, I sped away myself and repositioned with my own Agility. Ready, she sped off herself, avoiding the blow I was ready to give her. The speedy exchange would happen for all of two seconds in real time before I gave one feint, to make her commit to dodging, but when she reappeared, I counter attacked, driving a fist right into her stomach. I then quickly got behind her and drove my leg right into her, kicking her back to the ground instead. She would careen down to the earth then flip herself back up, hitting the ground and driving Hinterbane into the asphalt underher to slow herself down.

As she stood there at the Rouge Plaza, where the soft street lights lit up the small monuments, park benches, and decorative bushes, she looked back up where she saw me in pursuit now. I would quickly start giving a wave of my arms. Ice pillars started shooting up from the ground, one after another threatening to entrap Kess. She would cleave the large icy spikes and leapt back immediately as they shot up trying to corral her in. She would then unleash her electricity fiercely, streaks of electricity flying up not only dispelling any of the other ice that was coming at her but was arching up that was coming my way. I immediately dodged out of the way with Agility, practically reappearing back as soon as I touched down and skidding to a stop. She was already on my case, appearing herself out of her own Agility and swung the sword. I immediately caught her her wrist with both hands, but she would press in, hard. Fiercely. My feet skidded along the ground, Kess showing she could fight with the best of them, perhaps with something to prove better than the best of them. She slams me against a nearby decorative barred fence and while she had me pressed, she grabbed one of the rails and electrocuted it, and by extension me as I laid against it. I yelled out in pain, then unleashed a hard burst of a Blizzard attack to make her reel back. Still latched on to her, I swung her arms around to smash her hands into the gate and made her drop the blade. Quickly, I swung an elbow, clocking her in the face, followed by another gut shot, then a thrusting kick, all in short order to get her off of me. Space her out from me. Enough where I put my hands in front of me and blasted her with an Ice Beam. She got her arm out, a Light Screen forming in front of her. The blast made impact, driving her back across the sidewalk, and into an opposite fence, driving the bars loose from their concrete mounts and having her hit the ground.

Kess wouldn’t get an opportunity to rest. I was already speeding off above her in the air, another Ice Beam at the ready. Going wide-eyed for only a split second, she would roll off as the shot was fired and scramble off before she found herself in an icy tomb. She would dash off, trying to reposition as fast as she could as Ice Beam shots rained down. She would then dash off with her Agility. I was still able to keep up with her. Track her. With agility, I cut her off, our blows clashing with each other where we met. She was going after Hinterbane, get it back, put me back on the defensive. The two of us met move for move, one parry after the next, one counter after the next, our focus unwavering, trying to be better than one another. I would quickly try to sneak in a single-handed Ice Beam shot on her, but she would be quick to counter. As soon as I put my hand out and fired, she weaved off and grabbed my arm and threw me over her, slamming me into the concrete hard. My torso once again ached, a grimace escaped me through the pain. Everything about me kept saying I wasn’t ready for this. I ignored it. She would stomp down to follow up and I would quickly roll over and manage to get up to one knee, only for her to thrust a fierce kick into me. I would end up blocking the shot, but the harsh impact sent me a short ways down the path and right into a mounted park bench. Everything about me was screaming to stop, I was still hurting too much from Dialga. I needed to recover more before trying this. I ignored it still.

Kess quickly snatched up Hinterbane as I pushed myself up back off the ground. I’d rush for her, sprinting full speed with Agility, grabbing at her sword hand and started swinging. She’d put her arm up, bringing her Light Screen shield in front of her to shield herself. She swatted with her Light Screen shield to get me off of her, then transitioned to a full on bashing with it. She would then quickly switch, thrusting Hinterbane forward to impale me with it. I managed to weave off to the side and countered, smashing my fist right into her. I would try to press my advantage, but it was not something she was poised to let me keep, bringing the sword around and tried to cleave me with it. I would then duck and weave back, but before I could get myself righted again, she would rush in, driving her Light Screen into me and pushing me hard, trying to get me to fall over, and most preferably to her, finish me off. I’d instead take advantage of it, falling back on my own, dragging her down and rolled back, giving her a hard toss behind me. Once she hit the concrete, I hopped back up to my feet, she scrambled back up to herself. At that point, once again, I threw my arm up to summon another Ancientpower. Kess was ready for it, giving a hard swing of Hinterbane and cleaving the pillars where they were coming up, then gave a hard kick to one of the carved pillars and sending it off towards me. I ducked out of the way of the large incoming ice chunk, but Kess was poised to keep up her advantage. She would come down with Hinterbane but I would dodge out of the way with Agility and manage to drive my foot into her back with great force.

She would go into a tumble a short ways away and quickly get back to her feet to face me, but I was already after her. She quickly brings up her light screen shield again and I would slam into her. Her feet would skid hard as she braced, refusing to back down. She then sparked up and gave a hard discharge of electricity. I once again grimaced as the electricity started to wreak havoc, but much to her surprise, I wasn’t budging still, I was still pushing her back. I bore through the damage, the pain. She couldn’t help but to stare in confusion as I looked back at her, practically gritting teeth and overpowering her now. She struggled, adjusting her grip, poised to stab me with Hinterbane again. She would come down with the blade and I would quickly back off, and then retaliated while she was committed to her attack. I drove a fist right into her face, one strike, then another. She would quickly turtle up, hiding behind the Light Screen shield, but I would come under it, driving another strike into her midsection. Once she hunched over in pain for that second, I thrusted a foot into her, kicking her off again, then darted off, cutting her flight off with Agility and kicked her again, sending her into the air. She would flap her wings, getting herself righted and stopped in mid air before anything else happened, trying to reposition and get her bearings. As she tried to look around trying to track me down again, seeing me in time coming down on her, but too late to do anything about it. I smashed another fierce kick into her, kicking her into roughly the 3rd level of a near by parking garage. She hit the concrete hard, losing the blade again as she tumbled then finally skidded to a stop.

I glided into the parking garage after her and landed. She was pushing herself up, shaking her head a little bit, trying to shake the damage she had taken all fight. A breeze howled and echoed in the near-empty garage as she tried to recollect herself. She was breathing a bit heavily, this entire fight so far being a workout for certain. She pushed herself up then turned to face me and got at the ready. She noticed Hinterbane. Just a quick Agility dash away. But then looked at me, cautious. Certainly I wouldn’t want her to have it. I would proceed to dispel that notion. “You want it? Go ahead.” I said to her. “Take it.”

“What?” Kess was taken aback by the statement. “Are you sure? You seemed nothing but afraid of the blade this entire time, taking special interest in making sure that edge doesn’t meet you. Why you seem adamant using your true Ice-type attacks attacks at me while I hold it. It’s true, isn’t it? This thing can take you out as it can an Elemental. That’s why your assailant in Galar used it against you.” She wouldn’t get an answer out of me, I simply walked over towards Hinterbane, looking at it for just a couple of seconds, then kicked the blade over, having it slide across the concrete over to her. Kess couldn’t hide her confusion. Completely dumbfounded. She was hesitant to pick the blade back up at first, but she would quickly snatch it up. “You’ve lost it, haven’t you? You know you can’t beat me on your own. You never had. Always had Freth with you at least, the kid at most just to hide from my electricity. Here, you have neither, on your own, and yet you are confident that you can beat me?” I wouldn’t give her an answer. I just simply stared at her, as if I had her whole soul read. “What? A few hits is hardly a victory, Blizzard. And I got this blade that your overly careful around that you just so ‘graciously’ handed back to .” I still wouldn’t utter a word in reply, all that could be heard was the cold breeze that was finding its way in from the outside. “What is this silent treatment? What is all of this? One of your mind games? One of your mid-fight taunts or bluffs? Do you honestly think I would fall for that? And here just for a moment I thought you were actually treating this fight seriously.”

She sparked up furiously and made a powerful electrical discharge. The overhead garage lights started to spark, overload, and blow as the electrical attack started to rush for me. I quickly darted off with Agility to get out of the range of the attack, but Kess darted across cutting me off. She would swing the blade, one strike after the next and I was quick to duck and weave from the swipes, for only a second, before I stepped in and retaliated, smashing another fist right into her face. She would stop herself from reeling back and quickly tried to strike back, slashing hard with the blade, trying to land at least one good cut at least. One swipe vertical downwards, then back upwards. She weaves a Light Screen back to form and tried to thrust her shield into me. One attack after the next weaved and dodged. She’d go back over, trying to slash down upon me. I’d counter, grabbing her arm and drove my knee into her gut. Kess coughed out on impact and as she was caught reeling, she took another fierce punch. She refused to go down. She quickly tried to retaliate, sparking electricity and unleashed her electrical attack upon me. I grimaced out again as I got caught in the attack but then I fought through it, breaking free from her electrical onslaught, dashing out with Agility. She was stunned in that split second, trying to grasp how that I was still able to fight back after taking several electrical strikes as is throughout this ordeal and it was in that moment I drove my leg right into her head. She went skidding down the garage, but quickly snapped herself up, getting back on her feet to get me back in her sights.

Something wasn’t mathing to her, I could see it on her face as I started to approach her. This fight was certainly a stark difference between what happened outside of Rustboro City in Hoenn. She couldn’t figure it out. She was fighting to not let it bother her, to continue the mission as was a soldier was commanded, but what was a fight that neither opponent was giving an inch over and here she was now wavering and couldn’t understand how. She wasn’t necessarily doing anything wrong. She made every attack count, punished every attack as she could see it. I could see it, it was frustrating her. She was ready to end it, to get a decisive strike in. A finishing strike in. Kess would sheathe Hinterbane, stancing up, hand on the hilt, focused. I recognized this. What put Freth out of commission for effectively over a week. I would stop approaching Kess, waiting on her, eyes narrowed. I could sense every fiber of her being tensing up, trying to gather power, her focus being honed for surgical, fatal precision. I waited for the attack to happen, unafraid. In a flash, Kess blazed a path, lighting trailing behind her. An attack that went beyond her standard Agility capabilities. One that she had honed to be a finishing strike, a quick cut given Laser Focus.

The blade draws and a hard smack echo through the empty public garage. Kess in that instant found herself, a hand around her throat, another that caught her wrist as it tried to draw the blade out. I was several steps forward, throwing off her calculation by just a hair in that instant. She was mortified as I stared at her with absolute contempt. Her mind couldn’t process what just transpired. In that moment, I quickly disarmed her of the sword, courtesy of a hard knee to the gut, followed by a wrenching of the blade out of her hand, then gave a harsh strike with the back of my hand and sent her to the ground. “Did you really think you were going to do what you did to Freth to me?” I asked with disgust.

Kess scrambled back then got back to her feet, grasping her face a bit then looked over at me as I casually picked Hinterbane up off the ground. “How…” she asked. “What is this? How are you strong like this!? What did you do!?” she demanded.

“Nothing that I haven’t been doing. Just old-fashioned hard work.” I said.

“You weren’t this strong when we fought in Hoenn!” she snapped back. “And since then you wouldn’t have the chance to try to get stronger from there!”

“You’re right, I haven’t had any opportunity to train no thanks to SWIPE or anyone else out to come after us. But curious…what on earth makes you think that I wasn’t this powerful back then? Just because you managed to fend three of us at once? Kind of weird, right? Heh, I guess Tristen was actually wrong. You guys don’t know…”

“Know what!?”

“I had been holding back all this time, Kess.” I said. “Even as far back as when we first met when you were in Ein’s employ. I always have been.”

“You’re lying.”

“Really? You haven’t really noticed, have you?” I asked her. “You’re starting to shake.”

“I’m not scared of you!” Kess said.

“No, it’s not fear, Kess. Its cold.” I said. Kess stared at me in confusion as she breathed there, trying to get herself together again, trying to shirk off the damage but as she did so she noticed something. Her breath that was leaving her beak. She then gave a more intentional long breath out, a longer stream of visible vapor leaving her. She looked around, listening to the breeze howl through the garage then back at me. “What did you do?”

“Nothing special, really. But honestly effective, and why I end up holding back a lot, perhaps to my detriment a lot of the times.” I said. “I was wanting to save this for someone who showed me what having skills as a hybrid actually meant. Show him that I had been paying attention, trying to apply what he taught me, that sort of thing. Unfortunately, I haven’t heard from him in a long time now…I got the feeling that I am not going to have the opportunity to show him. Though really, being honest, that aside, I realized that it had a bit of a drawback. The cold doesn’t play favorites, Kess. Just as it could be comforting and gentle, it can also be cruel and relentless; a unforgiving, silent, enduring killer. In my time training over the years, it was something that I had to accept that I had to be careful in doing because what good was it if I ultimately ended up freezing everyone in Snagem while we were trying to beat our nemesis of the time?” I asked her. “I had to be careful to make sure I only froze who needed to be frozen. That I break only who I needed to break. But unfortunately for me, you could take it. Couldn’t you? The results of you ending up as a hybrid yourself and subsequently trained so hard, if not assumingly artificially enhanced by Ein, for, right? So, for once in my life, I got an opportunity to…you know…cut loose. You hadn’t noticed it though because you were too focused on the fight. Focused to take me out under Looker’s order, probably ran under at least a mild assumption this was going to go easier than back in Hoenn. Not that you would have really noticed anyways. Think of it like boiling a Froakie, only in the opposite direction. Every bolt you conjured, every step you enhanced with Agility, every sword swipe, every focus of Light screen, every punch you threw, every flap of the wing to maintain flight, every dodge, every counter, every guard, every scramble to recovery to get back into the fight. Every one motion. Every one attack. All taking more and more energy that you would have normally not used right away. Not only to just to try to beat the absolute hell out of me…but to instinctively just to keep yourself warm. You exhausted yourself far sooner than you given yourself credit for doing being caught up in my cold.”

She stared at me as I explained it to her. The pieces started to click into place. “Pressure. That’s your ability. Pressure. You subjected me…to Pressure!? This entire fight!?” Kess shouted. “You! You were capable of doing this the entire time!? Even back in Hoenn!? Even all the way back when we-…no…” she stood back up, reached back behind her, pulling out Saetta, the blade crackling to life. Should have figured she wasn’t going to discard that thing. “I don’t believe you.”

“I don’t care if you do or not. As far as I am concerned, this is the last time you are going to be coming after me, my friends, my family. This ends tonight. And you got Looker and your blasted hubris to thank for that.” I said, giving Hinterbane a twirl around in my fingers before brandishing it at my side at the ready.

Look Here, Looker Part 2

Kess would rush for me, Saetta whipping down, poised to strike me down, but I would raise Hinterbane up and the blades will clash. I would push in, locking them for the second. I had to admit, while it looked like I had this cinched now, Hinterbane in my possession didn’t really matter. I was never a swordfighter, especially not like Kess or Sol for that matter, and never cared to learn. I was effectively that of a raving idiot flailing a sword around comparatively right now, merely using my hybrid-based senses to make up for my lack of skill. If I was going to strike Kess down with it, I had to actually carefully pick my shot and use the ability the sword still had in its reforged state that Kess wasn’t capable of conjuring, nor was I going to give her the opportunity to with my ice attacks.

I would push off and break the blade lock and she would quickly go on the attack, whipping Saetta about. Each spark would crackle as the blade went by me, every time she tried to reach me and cut me down. I quickly weave and duck, careful to not even catch so much as a graze by her electrical blade. I would leap back, firing a shot of Ice Beam from my hand towards her feet, and she would leap back in turn, reacting and refusing to be frozen down to the ground again, but as she did so, she would whip Saetta in an arc, electricity getting whipped out from her through her sword. A Shockwave, or at least the looks of one. I grimaced, getting pelted by the electrical attack, but one thing I noticed, it didn’t have that much bite to it. She really doesn’t realize it yet, does she? Her fatigue was catching up to her, the cold was making her submit.

As she touched back onto the ground she would rush for me again, ready to strike with Saetta again, electricity fiercely pouring out from her blade and poised to finish it. I would end up recovering, stepping forward, and driving an elbow right into her stomach. She would cough out, stunned for a second, that second long enough for me to follow up and thrust a harsh kick into her, sending her flying across the garage. She would hit the ground into a roll before managing to push herself back to her feet in one motion. But as soon as she did, she saw me in hot pursuit, brandishing Hinterbane. She then went wide eyed as in that approach, she could see something happening to Hinterbane. As it started to cut through the air, chilling winds started to shroud it, frost started to permeate and fly off the blade, a faint ghastly howl started to seem to come from it. It was me putting my own icy prowess, focusing it into the blade. Kess quickly would leap back hard, disengaging from any potential clash. It was in that second as I brought the blade around, ready to cleave her in two with the chilling edge of Hinterbane, the howl got louder, no, a screech. A screech of anger. A screech of pain. Kess didn’t understand what was going on, other than the blade had been empowered somehow, but what got her attention more, she was still at least a good half-arms length from being cleaved at the waste, and yet, somehow, the tails of her coat that fluttered up in front of her from the sheer speed of her dodge ended up getting cleaved. It didn’t take her long to realize she needed space. And fast.

As I pursued, she quickly leaped hard and fast backwards, hitting the ledge of the wall of the garage and then made the hard leap into the open Lumiose City air back outside. I sprung off the wall right after her and gave another hard frigid slash of the blade, but even with what seemed to be an extended reach now, it was still predictable to avoid by Kess’s stance. She would vanish instantly with her Agility. It didn’t take long at all for me to track her down. I looked up, seeing her with Saetta even more skyward. She would crackle with power and unleash a powerful Thunder attack. I tried to move about, avoiding one bolt after the next, then I would vanish myself from her sight with my own Agility. She started looking about then quickly, turned and once again the blades clashed once more, sparks showered from her blade upon impact. But it was at this point where Kess started to realize that what I spoke of Pressure was no bluff. It was taking more effort to guard the attack. The blows were getting heavier to her.

I vanished once again and started to appear, vanish, and appear again. I started to practically come in and out all about her, I was pushing my Agility to the very limits, it was almost as if I was trying to mock a Double team, but all I was doing was looking for an opening. She hovered there, followed with her eyes and senses, ready to counter attack. I appeared again, coming down with Hinterbane, the blades clash. I’d vanish, she turnabout with a swing with Saetta, I end up guarding with Hinterbane. Once again, I vanish. I was trying to get an opening, she could see it, certainly. She had the sword training. She also was one who pushed herself to the very limits. Nothing was going to get through if she could help it. Blades would clash multiple times until I ended up firing an Ice Beam at her, which she would bring her Light Screen shield in front of her to absorb the hit. She braced herself as the attack landed and pressed her back, but as she was trying to weather the impact, I appeared behind her and came behind her and came down with Hinterbane once more. “AAAUGH!” Kess yelled out. A cut on her back. The slice itself both burned and was chilling at the same time. In spite of it, it was superficial considering, but it was a testament as to how this fight was going for her. She was losing ground.

She would quickly whip Saetta around, and once again I’d disappear, getting distance from her once again. But she already had me lined up in her sights, she had Saetta pointed right at me, a orb forming before it. She’d fire the shot, the Electro Ball heading right for me at a rapid pace. When the ball got close, I would give a hard swipe with Hinterbane and the electrical ball would cleave in two from Hinterbane’s might, instantly detonating into a bunch of sparks as it went by me. Kess in that moment hesitated, unable to believe what was transpiring. She would then go wide-eyed, bringing up Saetta again, because I rushed right for her and came down with Hinterbane once more. Blades would lock and the two of us start falling out of the sky to the streets below. As we fell, she was trying to hold back from Hinterbane trying to claim her as I pressed down, trying to keep her right where she was at. But on that descent, I uttered only three words: “Now you’re afraid.” In that instant, the feathers on her face drooped slightly, some out of disbelief, though perhaps really? She felt exposed. A feeling she didn’t care for. Refused to acknowledge. Her quills then tensed back up, she was now infuriated. With a defiant roar, she would push back up and we would then end up kicking off each other. Below, the few available SWIPE operatives were trying to clear the area, vehicles with lights lighting up the city streets trying to guide people away from the area. Shouts of “move, move, move!” and “look out, clear the way” started to be heard as Kess and I would make a flip to right ourselves and with a couple of flaps of our respective wings, we landed on the street right in the middle of the roadblock.

The two of us would start rushing each other once again, the blades would clash a couple of times before she turned around and smashed her Light Screen buckler into me, sending me back a good ways. My talon-feet skidded down the pavement, I maintained my stance, I refused to hit the ground once again. She came in fast, Saetta at the ready and she started to quickly swipe with the electrical blade. I stepped aside from one swipe, guarded another swipe with Hinterbane, then ducked one more that ended up catching a light pole and cleaved it like it was butter.

As the pole started to come crashing down upon the sidewalk, Kess tried to keep the momentum up, intent in keeping me on the defensive, but the more she tried to press, the cold continued to sap her energy, she was slowing down. Saetta would get whipped around once more, Kess’s desperation and exhaustion starting to become all the more prevalent. I flipped Hinterbane around, bringing into a reverse grip, blocking Saetta once again, and in that moment, I stepped forward and drove my free fist once again into her gut. She would start trying to gasp for air, the cold, biting air that was driving her will to fight right into the tank. I’d spread my wings out and unleash a hard gust of a Blizzard attack right into her and she would fly off across the street and she would end up slamming into a nearby truck.

She’d peel herself off the truck, hobbling forward a couple of steps, but I was already on hot pursuit of her. She stepped off a couple of steps, repositioning, was able to read the strike easily, she tried to move her electrical blade in position, but it was slower than she wanted. She couldn’t brace like she wanted. She couldn’t focus like she wanted. As Hinterbane came over, the blades crackled and crashed and sparks flew off, and in that instant, the SWIPE members got to see a harrowing sight for them. Saetta was shorted out. Only a hilt to her name now, Kess looked at the icy blade it was brought over head, glistening in the lights of the city and the SWIPE vehicles. Kess could only hear the ghastly howl, no…a screech, an Articuno. Enraged. She tried to step back, wanting to dodge, needing to defend, but the blade came down, from neck to opposite waist, across the torso. A similar cut that she gave to Freth that put her life into danger. Though before she hit the ground, ice erupted fiercely from the wound made, a punctuation and a chilling end to the fight.

She would fall to her knees and flop down onto the ground with the ice crunching under her. She stared as she laid there, her beak trembled out of pain and cold…and perhaps to the realization that she was now staring at death herself, just as she left Freth. “Blizzard!” A voice would shout to me as I kicked away Saetta from Kess’s hand. I looked back towards the vehicles, Looker rushing over. He was trying to maintain his composure at the sight he was looking at but it was safe to assume that it was harrowing to the grizzled detective.

I was out of breath admittedly as I turned and faced Looker, holding Hinterbane at my side. Oddly, I felt a bit…satisfied, as bad as it might be. It was fight that was perhaps long time coming was finally over and I was actually able to say that all the work had done over the years had finally paid off. That I didn’t have to doubt myself much anymore, which perhaps had been pissing Freth off a lot lately. Did I like the circumstances that came about? No. Should it have came to this? Not really. I guess it was one of life’s cold comforts. I wasn’t going to relish in it, make no mistake. But I think this was something I needed. Maybe…when this is over…I can finally call it quits after all. Thoughts for another time…I got to make it out of this crisis first.

As I looked over towards Looker, I would merely speak. “So, have you decided, Looker?”

“Decided?” he asked.

“How many?” I then reiterated from earlier. Looker was now mortified, finding himself in a position where he was certain he was going to lose. He just lost the most powerful person he had on hand and in spite of the fight I was just been through, dealing with the SWIPE operatives here, even in their expansion suits, was going to be nothing more than a mop up exercise.

A vehicle would then pull up to the blockade and once the door opens up, a voice yelled out in the city streets. “LOOKER, STAND DOWN!” I couldn’t help but to stand there in confusion. While I wasn’t going to complain for someone being a voice to reason, finally, I was astounded that someone was actually trying to bark orders to Looker. Through the barricade, a female, long lavender hair tied back, dressed in a pitch black suit, started to walk about the blockade and onto the final battlefield of Kess and I.

I stared at the female, and though there was oddly some age there, I started to recognize her and astonished at who I was looking at. “Anabel?” I asked. “Anabel, that you? The hell are you doing here?”

“Chief, what are you doing?”

“Chief?” I then asked. “What’s going on!? Anabel, you’re his boss!? Since when!?”

“Blizzard, was it?” he asked. “Quite the extensive file on you in particular.” She would look at Kess, still writhing at death’s door on the ground. “And one well deserved at that.”

“Why are you talking like you don’t know me!?”

“Because I don’t.” she said, matter of factly.

“The hell you don’t!” I said. “Your tenure at the tower and its function within the Indigo League chain, never mind that you and I had at it one day several years ago that ended up effectively as a stalemate…the hell you don’t know me!”

“You know the Anabel of this world. Not me.”

“Of this wo-…” I stopped myself as something started to click instantly and stared in disbelief. “…a faller?” I then asked.

“Yes, and not one that’s thrilled at what she’s looking at.” She said. I was instantly on guard, Hinterbane at the ready. I really didn’t know what this Anabel was capable of and I didn’t want to find out like this, but one that I was willing to fight too if push came to shove. “…what are you after, Blizzard. You had a free pass because of Judge Jenny for the time being and you squander it like this?”

“You’re under the assumption you know everything, and yet, you still don’t. I was here for information. But then I find myself getting into more fights than I care for right now.” I said, pointing at Kess with Hinterbane.

Anabel contemplated for a few seconds. “Secure the bureau…” Anabel would say to Looker. “…arrange a spot to…talk.”

“A parlay then?” I then asked.

“Parlay.” Anabel said.

“Chief, are you certain, he-“ Looker would try to interject.

“With Kess down, it will be a while before we would get any more reinforcements and he would have easily gone through with his threat to you earlier if he was pushed. And the longer we stay out here discussing this, the more critical Kess’s condition gets.” Anabel said. “So yes, parlay.” She would then say back to me.

I would give a hard sigh out, trying to relieve and bring down the amount of power I was putting out. The fight was over. I didn’t need the overwhelming pressure coming down anymore. I’d walk back to Kess for the moment, reaching around, having to lift a wing of hers temporarily to get it out of the way and grab the scabbard that she had fashioned for Hinterbane. “Never…touch this blade again.” I said, slamming the blade into the scabbard before walking off.

---------
It was a while when Looker found his way back to the bureau, followed by what I now know to be an otherworldly Anabel, and then myself, holding Hinterbane in my hand. There was a silence there, the hum of the lights above was the only thing that was prevalent in the room. Looker went over to a coffee maker to start a few cups of coffee. Perhaps to warm him back up after having to be out in the cold for so long, or to perhaps try to calm the nerves a little after what he had to bear witness to. Anabel kept her eyes on me as I just walked about the bureau, looking at the various pictures on the wall, one standout was Looker and Eusine together in a handshake, dated years ago. “God…what is that crackpot been up to nowadays…haven’t seen him in a while. Still chasing Suicune around?” I asked.

“Still chasing, still trying to solve the mysteries of Suicune, still gets me to try to help from time to time.” Looker said.

“Mmm…”

“I doubt you’re interested in any of Looker’s confidants, Blizzard.” Anabel spoke up. “Get to the point. What information are you wanting?”

“Anything and everything, effectively.” I said, looking back at Anabel. “This all started because SWIPE ended up getting falsified stuff that was incriminating to me and the team at large.”

“So, Sub sent you then.” Looker said.

“He actually doesn’t know I’m here. Though once word gets out about the massive fight that Kess and I had, I have no doubt that’s going to change and he’s probably going to be a bit pissed off.”

“He doesn’t know? Why do I doubt that?” Looker said.

“He’s telling the truth.” Anabel said.

“……well, at least you’re that much like Anabel here.” I said. “You’re empathic enough to be a bit of a lie detector. Aren’t you?”

“I am now. I wasn’t always like that. I suspect it was because of me arriving here. Not that arriving here didn’t have its problems. No memory at first of where I came from and mistaken for being the Anabel of this world for those who recognized her.” she said. “I discovered that that I could read people to an extent, only for me to realize when I started to get my memories back slowly that I only really was able to read my own Pokémon before I arrived here.” The coffee Looker was working on finally was finished and he would pour a cup for himself and Anabel. He’d pass the cup to Anabel and she would take a sip. “Did you come here against orders?”

“He didn’t have orders to give. Probably under the assumption I would end up trying to recover from the Dialga attack in Viridian City.” I said. “I ended up deciding to up and leave and take matters into my own hands while Sub went off to try to take care of other proverbial fires that had been cropping up. If nothing else, consider me a rogue agent in all of this.”

“Rogue agent?” Looker spoke up. “So, you’re on your own. And the first thing you thought of doing was start a fight with us?”

“We’re here, aren’t we?” It got a grunt out of Looker.

“What is it that you’re looking for then? What do you want to know?” Anabel spoke up.

“I want to know who set you all on the warpath and how long ago did this happen? Because who ever it is has been playing everyone here and I had enough. I want to know the extent of the issues here because we already got at, by our count, three bastards involved in this. One of which being that blasted ‘prosecutor’ that you so believed he was that you fools scrounged up out of nowhere.” I said. “I want to try to figure out how deep this rabbit hole is.”

“Cruxias?” Looker spoke up. “I’m inclined to ask you where he is at. No one has seen him since Viridian City and he’s not amongst the wreckage.”

“Because the b*****d up and ran off on us to what I am to understand. Where did you find this guy? Who is this guy?” I demanded.

“You know what we do. Prestigious prosecutor, many successful cases to his name.” Looker said. “I’ve even worked with him a couple of times before his retirement years ago.”

“Ugh…forgive me if I am skeptical.”

“And I’m skeptical of your claims of Cruxias being involved. Though given the events of the gym, I am assuming one being Cyrus, presumably.” Looker said.

“No. That Cyrus you saw in Viridian City was a faller. Like Anabel here. Thing of it, last I checked, this guy was being played like the rest of us. Sent after us like some demented attack dog.” Anabel stared, looking disturbed, but she knew I wasn’t lying.

“I wonder how long he’s been here?” Anabel stated

“No idea. Long enough, I guess?” I said. “The Dialga wasn’t from this reality as well.”

“How do you know this?” Looker asked.

“Believe it or not, we all were told this. By the Ultra Recon Squad.” I said. I looked at the two and they stared at me, but it wasn’t a stare in confusion as if I was still talking gibberish. There was…familiarity. “You know of them…”

“We had a run in with them once or twice in the past. Years ago.” Looker spoke. “Minor incident in Alola. Before SWIPE’s formation. Eccentric bunch.”

“Eccentric. Right.” I said. “First met them just a week ago, and was confirmed they were the ones who decided to send that one to attack me in Galar a couple years back, so…good times.” I said, sarcasm blatantly apparent.

“Then who else then is allegedly you’re up against?” Anabel spoke up.

“Hang on, my turn.” I said, lifting Hinterbane up, pointing the hilt at Anabel for a second. “This isn’t going to be a one-sided question fest out of you all. Already been through that once already. Looker. By the way, personally kind of hoped your little personal assistant Emma was out here. Still kinda want to see how BA she thinks she still is in that little outfit of hers and without a collar on.”

Anabel sighed out a bit. “Enough. What, Blizzard?”

“What got SWIPE started on the crusade after me and everyone else. We’ve busted our hides over the past decade for effective strangers and then suddenly, torch and pitchforks.”

“We’ve already told you.” Looker stated. “We had information that Sub and Sol conspired with Ein to make you more virtuous than what the team are, and given many of members backgrounds, made it rather believable.”

Even me?” I said, rather angerly.

“If nothing else, perhaps thoroughly mislead. If not convinced, that is. You do have a known history of being rather rebellious, more so since you ended up being a hybrid, as noted to your history of dealing with…Celcius?” Looker stated.

“Like anyone believed Celicus existed until long after the fact.” I said.

“Your current actions tonight isn’t helping your case at all. A strong compulsion to do something because you think it’s right. Cruxias perhaps had you pegged that afternoon in court.” Anabel stated.

“Funny you praise his examination of me when he is one of the ones we’re sure that is responsible for this.” I said.

“Is that so? And what evidence do you have of that?” Anabel then said.

“None, unfortunately, other than something happening during the trial. When Sub tried to object to prove that Monique had nothing to do with us and she was in fact a faller like you and only recently joined us.” I said to her. “We saw the files we got from Ein before Sub tried to submit them to the court. It was supposed to be our ace in the hole, but between the time we saw them and the point Sub tried to show it off in court, it got altered. Don’t know how.”

“That could have been Cyrus’s, or more namely, the Dialga’s doing. Perhaps have gone back in time utilizing the Dialga’s power, changed something to further incriminate you?” Anabel said.

“No, Ultra Recon Squad stated that because the Dialga was out of its own reality, while it was still powerful, it wasn’t going to be able to do anything like that.” I said to her. “Cruxias had to be responsible somehow, but even if you don’t want to believe that, and if you want to suggest messing with time, the only one that I know is able to do that would have been Aden.” I said.

Looker stared in confusion. “Who?”

“Aden.” I repeated. Though as I looked at the two of them, there was that look of confusion I had expected earlier mentioning the Recon Squad. “Sol’s son?” I asked. It still got a confused look out of the two of them. Though Anabel wasn’t sensing any lie coming out of me, I was pretty sure. I wasn’t after all. A silence loomed in the room for at least a good ten seconds until Anabel looked back over towards Looker for a second. Looker went to his desk and started to pull out various files, skimming through the papers, then shook his head.

“Blizzard, who’s Aden?” Anabel asked. I stood there, dumbfounded as I looked between the two of them.

“Aden, what did you do?” I silently said to myself. There were major contradictions galore right there in plain sight and no one can recognize them other than me and the rest of Team Snagem. I shook my head. “Aden is what is effectively a Chimera hybrid of sorts. Father is Sol, mother is a Celebi hybrid who passed away early on in Snagem’s tenure while we were under Miles’s lead.” I said.

“You mentioned this Miles again…you mentioned him before, the one who had Snagem’s reigns before they were given to Sub. But there is no record of him anywhere.” Looker said.

“Which I don’t know how. He really was a massive thorn in the Rangers side until we ended up banding together to fight them.” I said. “Unless Aden had a hand in that, too…which I don’t know why if that’s the case.” I said.

“This Aden, then.” Anabel then spoke. “He has traits of his mother then? Meaning a Celebi’s capability of traveling through time.”

“Not sure how, but yea. He ended up saving half the team from Ein during our last fight with him at Realgam Tower.” I said. “Using whatever power he has. Or rather…maybe bestowed…” I said, musing.

“What is it?” Anabel stated.

“I ended up learning that technically Aden shouldn’t be capable of doing this. Our world’s Dialga should be preventing such tampering. He shouldn’t have been able to rescue half the team from Ein’s weapon, he shouldn’t be able to do this, but…here he is, doing…this.”

“I don’t understand. If this person in fact exists, why would he rescue you then turn around and betray you later?” Looker said.

“As it was suggested to me, if he is capable of going up and down time’s river and affect it to such a degree, then he literally has all the time in the world.” I said to him. “His rescue of the team for as all we know this could have happened after what’s going on now.”

Looker stared at me for a moment, wincing for a moment. “I need another cup…” he said, going back to the coffee pot.

“Though, whatever is happening, there was one other person by the name of Volo getting him to do things.” I said to the two of them.

“Volo?” Anabel asked.

“I never met the man myself. Apparently, to what I am to understand, this guy is from another world as well. From a comparatively pre-industrial, kinda ancient Sinnoh time frame. Part of the team had dealings with him in this other world and he apparently was responsible for guiding the team in a chance direction to get them back to our reality. Not really fully aware of the details of all of that. But apparently as far as what I was told, he’d been spotted during our info hunt at Realgam.”

There was a pensive silence there as Looker started to down his second cup and Anabel barely went half way through her first so far. She was focused on me, trying to see about if I waver, would try to lie to her for any reason, but she wasn’t sensing anything. She looked as if she wanted to disbelieve what her own empathic abilities was telling her, because even with all she has encountered and experienced, this sounded too…out there.

“Say for the sake of argument you are telling the truth.” Anabel said to me, looking at me. “Is there anything more concrete that you can suggest that is out of place right now? Anything that we can perhaps investigate on?” she said.

“Truthfully, I’m not sure. There are plenty right in front of you, but for as all I know, it got justified because something got changed somehow. The people we found as corpses in the seats at Realgam Tower. They were alive when we found them; we rescued them. But then suddenly, they’re back in the seats to perish in the open sun for the past two years? Excuse me? Even before that…Devon Co., one of their agents there. Bulder.” I said. “He’s supposed to be dead right now.”

“Dead?” Looker spoke up.

“Died a hero, effectively. Almost single-handedly turned the tide of our fight against Ein during the incident in Mossdeep City. S22 killed him.” I said. “Freth and I pulled his body out from the rocket ship that crashed in the waters off the coast of the city. That is a man we owe everything to, honestly. But he’s alive now. Somehow. Like it never happened. Like a lot of things never or had happened when the opposite did instead.”

“And if that is the case, how is it that Team Snagem are the only ones who recognize these discrepancies?” Looker asked.

“I wish I knew.” I said. “We have too many questions and hardly any answers to any of them other than something happened that Aden and Volo are involved with on one hand, and Cruxias is on another. They may be all intertwined; hell if I know. This entire thing had been frustrating from the start, all the way back when you came after us when we went to take out Dim Sun.”

“So, what would be the point then in you finding out where we got our information from?” Anabel asked. “If everything is so suspect?”

“Looking for carelessness, I guess. A lead to where to look and get to the source of the matter.” I said. “Find out how long this execution has been going on. At the very least, I know it had been a couple of years.” I said.

“We started shortly after your victory in Black City. SWIPE wasn’t formed yet. We as a group didn’t become what we are today until perhaps shortly after Ein’s defeat. Looker and I already had a few whistles blown on Team Snagem that we were investigating on and getting verified. In that time, we offered Kess a position.” Anabel stated.

“Tch, of all the people to go after. Why not hire all of Team Flare while you are at it now that Lysandre is gone.”

“Do you honestly believe no one can change for the better?” Looker asked.

“Make no mistake, I do believe a person can change. I don’t believe it’s just ‘snap’ and its done. It’s not that easy. I’m fairly convinced she has her own agenda. And I take it you scrounged up S17 from somewhere?” I asked.

“…do me a favor and do not call him that.” Anabel stated. “Its…triggering.”

“Big guy got feelings to hurt?” I asked.

“Why do you think he has the Type: Null?” Anabel stated. “I take it you found out about that in what you found in Ein’s tower.”

“Amongst other things.” I said. “God, not sure how I feel about those things being emotional support Pokémon…” I said, crossing my arms a bit.

“It doesn’t matter. Shortly after that, you all had your debacle that got you enrolled in Paldea’s academy.”

“I had nothing to do with that…” I said, still sore over that debacle.

“Perhaps not. What is known is that the entirety of Team Snagem was at the very least at the time showing itself as much of a liability as it was our apparent saviors, regardless of your intentions. Though about that time was when we had our information verified, you couldn’t any longer stay around and the regions needed a force to deal with the likes of the force that was Team Snagem.”

“What information? What verification? Quit stalling and tell me already.” I said. “And I want to know everything you have on Cruxias. I don’t care if you add what corner café that he likes to spend his time at. I need to know what I am dealing with to save our collective hides.”

Anabel stared at me, contemplating. She drummed her fingers along her coffee cup, trying to process everything that was being said this evening. “…alright, Blizzard.” She said. “Looker, get him a copy of the Snagem case file and Cruxias’s file.”

“Chief?” Looker said in disbelief.

“Finally, sense being made here.” I said exasperatingly.

“I didn’t say this was coming free, Blizzard.” Anabel stated. “As far as I can tell you to your knowledge haven’t lied to us, but this isn’t enough to get you out of hot water yet. Especially not after tonight. We’re going to need something out of you.” She would then reach into her suit jacket pocket and hand over a holocaster.

“What is this?” I asked.

“Its for us to keep tabs on you for one. Secondly, since you are apparently this rogue agent like you say you are, then you have no problems with working for us.” Anabel said.

“You’re going to want me to come to blows with Snagem, aren’t you?” I said.

“If it comes to it.” Anabel said.

“And get me poised to go under the proverbial bus like how you managed to get Deo in that position!? Go to hell!” I said. “Never mind that you freakin’ coerced him with his blasted grandmother.” I said, glaring at Looker.

“I did no such thing.” Looker said.

“Right, of course you didn’t.” I said.

“We’re going to need something, Blizzard, otherwise you can be ready to have the rest of the world come down on you as soon as you walk out that door and give us the excuse to go after Team Snagem again. I’m fairly certain you still have feelings about a few choice people within the team still. Like Freth? Tristen? And we’ll be able to hunt them down with or without Judge Jenny’s say, especially after all of that out there tonight.” She said.

I took a deep breath, trying to think. I needed something that they were going to want, but I refuse to be kept on a leash. Not by these guys. “I’ll get you Aden.” I said. “But if I am to have any chance at doing that, I’m going to need to borrow one of those collars.”

“Why just this Aden? Why not all responsible?”

“Because Aden is the one I can at least guarantee.” I said. “If things play out like I think, if albeit hope I admit, then Volo and Cruxias aren’t going to live past this incident should Team Snagem gain the upper hand somehow. Team Snagem will, however, try to get Aden under wraps and try to get him to answer for betraying the lot of us, never mind his father.” I said. “A familial courtesy, one could say, to Sol at least. And I’m pretty certain Volo and Cruxias need Aden themselves for some reason, so they’re not going to lay harm to him if they can help it. If I can manage to hunt him down and take him out of the picture, preferably before the Snagems get their hands on Aden, then the rest should fall into place. Aden can then, rather he likes it not, answer to you and whatever authorities you answer to for nearly screwing all of time and space…though, I doubt the law actually takes such things into consideration. Congrats! You two are about to set precedent! Ugh…Snagems are going to probably be pissed off at me for that, but…well, they’re already wary of me as is, so…I don’t care anymore. I don’t think I am going to be with them after this. I’m just going to go home finally.”

Anabel stood there as Looker compiled the files at a nearby computer. She would give a look over towards Looker for a second then back towards me. “Get us this Aden. We’ll talk after.” She said, holding up the holocaster again. I stared at the holocaster, sighing a bit then took it from her, if albeit begrudgingly. Looker would soon get up, finally done and handed me drive able to go into the holocaster to view the files as I saw fit. Finally, the collar, the dreaded ebonite collar that caused a lot of headaches when this all started.

“I suppose we’re done here.” I said.

“Next time, call ahead instead of beating our operatives senseless.” She said, though said not as a joke.

I would walk out the front door into the Lumiose city air and trudged forward, away from the bureau and out into the city. As I walked down the streets, a Holocaster and drive in my pocket, Hinterbane in my hand, I couldn’t help but to question to myself if I am doing all of this right. It didn’t matter, I was in too deep. I then grimaced a bit, bracing myself against a nearby wall of a building. The entire time, I was trying to suck up the pain, trying to not give Looker and Anabel anything to leverage over. And now that I was away from them, giving a relaxed sigh out, the pain started to come up all at once. The injuries from court day being exacerbated, the electrocutions and other various maneuvers Kess did during our fight making themselves known, the constant exuding of pressure and effectively pushing myself to the very limits to make sure that Kess got the message she was outclassed. After a few breaths, I trudged on…I needed to find a place to rest…
