Long ago, when the earth was new, there was only Chaos. And in that place came a mother, named Primordia. And in her, Primordial Chaos is. She bore the wrath of worlds, and is the creator of the Khaosi people. Keepers of the Balance. Keepers of the Gate.
After some time, she grew tired of her work. She wished for another to help her with keeping the Balance of the Earth. So she bore Khersis, the Beloved. And in making this child, she gifted them a small piece of the Chaos that was inside herself. And the child grew; flourished; learned. The child grew strong, and was, as their name, Beloved. Mother Primordia was pleased with Khersis' gentle heart, and her belief in keeping the Balance in tact.
There came the time when Mother Primordia sent her child to the surface, to spread chaos and help the balance be kept. And Khersis was a prodigy at their work. The Chaos inside them flourished, and spread without trouble. The Balance was easily kept. Mother Primordia was able to rest. She was able to leave the Earth in the hands of her child, to be kept safe. Eons passed, and the Earth was at peace.
Though you know such things would never last forever.
After all, Khersis was too soft-hearted by far. They watched the mortals and couldn't help but feel for them. Care for them. Love them. It came to pass that the Beloved used their Chaos inside to make the lives of Mortalis better. To protect and nurture them. To show them a new way, a better way. And Mortalis used her lessons to create darkness, as they often do. And in this, threw off the delicate Balance of the Earth.
Mother Primordia, upon hearing the Earth's cry, decided that perhaps her soft-hearted child could not do this alone. She believed Khersis was not wrong. Mortalis upon the Earth would need as much assistance as they could get. But they were flawed creations, and there would always be those of Mortalis that would use the lessons learned to create darkness. So rather than punish Khersis, Mother Primordia made a second child to restore the precarious balance. In this was born Sirenia, the Echoing Flame.
But Mother Primordia had learned. And this time, she made her second child less soft-hearted. More cunning. More calculating. However, when it came time to give the seed of Chaos to this child, Sirenia took half of Primordial Chaos within her. Mother Primordia was weakened. She fell into a sleep, unable to stop her newest child from destroying what was ever so precious.
Sirenia went to the earth, and spread her Chaos far and wide, bringing destruction and terror to Mortalis, and those who resided there. Khersis, the Beloved, was unable to stand before her, holding only a fraction of power that her sibling did. They fell, and the Earth wept at their passing. The Balance was thrust further into the darkness, unable to recover.
The Earth, frightened at the possibility of their last breath, lashed out, sealing Sirenia away. The Echoing Flame was thrust deep into the Earth, her Chaos chained inside of her, where it could no longer spread it's devilish waves.
Mother Primordia, losing both of her children, appointed new keepers of the Balance. New keepers of the Gate. And she set her Accord of the Arbiter, making it so her Keepers could not put the Earth or Mortalis in danger again. She warned them of falling victim to their emotions. She taught them how to be safe, and to keep the Balance firm.
So now, the Khaosi left from that time serves as the guardian. The Gatekeeper. And they will stand in this place, watching the bend and flow of time. The cycles of creation and destruction. As is their place. Keeping the Balance. Watching over Sirenia's rest. Making sure that the Echoing Flame does not awaken.
