While it hadnât been a long time since they had seen, Ty, it had been far too long since Alexi had invaded Tyâs space by climbing in through the window. Which, was how they always had indicated that something was wrong, or that there was something amazing happening, or they just wanted to get to their bestie in the quickest way possible, and tonight was no different.
It was hardly even night, really. Seven, seven thirty, they werenât sure. There had been a seven glowing on their phone screen and that was enough for them. Carefully, their friendâs window was prised open and Alexi peered in. âTy! Itâs me!â
The stage whisper was needed. Always needed and when the window was up enough, Alexi clambered in, falling onto the floor with a thump.
âYou know, I wish you had bigger windows. Or I wish I wasnât as tall as I was. Or like. I wish we just had a door that I could use. That wasnât the front door. Like an us door.â
Carefully they got themselves together and stood again, leaning backwards to crack their lower back. âSo I think. I have a problem, and it might be me? LikeâŠI might be the problem in this situation. I know youâre like, so shocked because Iâm perfect. Iâm a little shocked too.â

Ty immediately, loudly groaned when there was suddenly an intruder in his room. A baseball bat remained, untouched, by his bed. He was starting to think if someone ever actually did break in, he'd just assume it was Alexi....being Alexi.
Heâd just gotten out of the shower and his hair was tied up in a sloppy, damp bun. Ty was thoroughly unamused, staring blankly at Alexi, though it looked like he hadnât been interrupted while doing anything important.
Tyâs room was in slight disarray, but not so much that Alexi risked damaging anything while crawling through the window.
âYou think youâre the problem?â he asked dryly, eyes narrowing at his friend.
He crossed his arms over his chest.
The only car in the driveway was his own. Alexi definitely could have come in through the front. Ty had even given them a key!
âŠBut, no. It was always about making a dramatic entrance.
So Ty didnât try to help them, he just watched them clamor through the window and reorient themselves.
âWhat happened?â

âOkay, so. Alexi gave a sigh, wondering if they could end up spinning this so that they didnât lookâŠlike the problem. âI just keepâŠyou know when youâve got earbuds in and like, the music is just so good you canât help but likeâŠdance? And just let it take you where it wants you to go? So I justâŠkeep doing that but people just keepâŠjumpingâŠin myâŠway?â
Okay, maybe that was framed a bit better.
âAnd I keep running into them. Like jumped from a bench almost onto one guy. He was a hoot. Weâre friends now. He understands the whole Jonathan Groff spit stuff. Even if he didnât know that the man had been back on Broadway for over a yearâŠbut. Itâs fine.â
Okay, Alexi. The point. âYeah so. I think I just keep running into people and I might be the problem.â

Tyâs eyes narrowed as he listened to Alexi, obviously already trying to decipher what they were actually saying, not just neatly packaging.
Of course Ty knew what it was like to be lost in the music, so he nodded along, but the more Alexi spoke, the more ridiculous they sounded.
âŠYou didnât just jump off a bench and almost land on someone and think you werenât the problem.
Unless you were Alexi, maybe.
â...So,â Ty said slowly, âIt sounds like you need to remember to walk with your eyes open, yeah? So you donât, you know, walk in front of a car or somethingâŠ? What music are you listening to thatâs so good youâre jumping off of benches onto people?â

âOh my god, absolutely everything. My tastes and desires change by the day but like, this most recentâŠah. Incident, was the soundtrack from Six, an absolute bop.â
Alexi shook their head. âOh God no, so like, I look if thereâs a street, I do have my eyes open most of the time, just notâŠwhen I need them to be, I guess. Iâm kind of surprised that you went right to that rather than the music blaring? That was the issue I was trying to bring up, do you think I should swap to just one earbud or like, swap to lessâŠexicting music?â
Nodding, Alexi looked pleased. âLess exciting music might be the best option, now that Iâm thinking about it.â

Ty squinted at Alexi for another long moment.
âYouâre asking me if I think you should lower your music,â he said flatly, and gave Alexi a moment for the absurdity of it all to sink in.
âYouâre asking me if I think you should listen to âless excitingâ music? I mean, I think you should tweak your music taste. Itâs a little basic, but.â He gave an exaggerated shrug. âI listen to loud music all the time and Iâm not running into people. So Iâm thinking thatâs not the problem.â
âŠAlexiâs eyes being open only most of the time sounded a little more impactful.

âBasic? You wound me, Ty. Basic would be me listening to the stuff thatâs on the radio, not myâŠâ They paused and looked horrified for a moment. âUnless youâre telling me my taste in musicals are basic in whichâŠIâm going to just say that there really havenât been many new original musicals lately! And I like what I like! Iâm not changing myself for anyone butâŠbasic!â
A knife in the back from his best friend. Horrible.
âThen what is the problem? I think itâs the fact that people just donât look where theyâre going, like, clearly Iâm on a dance break, they should be able to see me, and all they have to do is move out of the way. Itâs so easy.â

Ty resisted the urge to exhale heavily, instead rolling his eyes and finding a conveniently distracting spot on the ceiling.
Alexi was just up to their usual dramatics, so Ty just let them continue until they circled back to the topic.
Of course, Alexi was either being deliberately obtuse, or--
Well, they might have just been obtuse.
"...So, quick counterpoint. Are you looking where you're going? Or are you just, you know." He stared at Alexi. "Dancing into people who are minding their own business."

âI mean. Iâm not going to take responsibility. My eyes are closed and theirs are open so I think clearly itâs in their best interest to move.â
Alexi shrugged and finally sighed, moving and sinking onto Tyâs bed, sighing heavily to show that they were wronged here and their best friend was not supporting this at all.
â...Wanna go get onion rings? I feel like Iâll never be able to explain all of this right. My treat.â
