Quite a number seem to celebrate the end of the Year, but now we've reached the Spring Festival. It begins on a new moon and is typically 15 days long with the festival honoring deities and ancestors. During this time, you see families big and small coming together for reunion dinners, cleaning of their home to remove bad luck, lots of red decorations and other festivities.
How do you choose to celebrate? Are you with family and friends? Are you solo? Perhaps you're not much of a Spring Festival kind of sort and don't celebrate at all. What do you think about the ongoing festivities whether or not you partake in them? Charming rolled over in his sleep. Birds started chirping outside, which slowly drifted him out of his restful slumber. Charming groaned. He felt so alone. Today was the start of the Spring Festival, which marks the beginning of the spring season. It's the start of the new year... officially, Charming thought, as he closed his eyes tighter. Charming is an attractive sallion with a pleasant personality. He is brave, kindhearted, and intelligent.. but incredibly picky. He fancies himself as a prince charming who has a lot of ladies who fancy him, but he is a picky, picky prince! But being so picky, he is always alone. And he hates, hates being lonely. Absolutely loathes it. What is a stallion to do? Well, he does his best to distract himself in a productive way: He takes care of himself. He thinks that if he elevates himself, more mares will be attracted to him, and he could pick from the masses, so to speak. So he is a fastidious groomer, adorns himself in gold, braids his mane, and watches his diet. What more could the ladies want? Charming thought. Charming opened his eyes slowly, and sighed. Here we go... Time to wake up. Charming got up on his hooves and gently stretched his massive body. Yawning, he blinked hard and released. Suddenly, he heard a noise toward the entrance of his home. Who could that be? Charming thought. The closer he got toward the entrance of his home, the more the noise became increasingly louder. That doesn't sound like a little lady...I wonder who that could be?Yapping could be heard from the entrance. Who is talking to themselves? Who is so excited? Who could this be? Charming thought. When he poked his head out, he breathed a sigh of relief. It was his friend. Yes, it is a mare. No, he is not interested in her. She is just a friend. Despite Charming shopping around for a mate and being exceptionally picky, it is not difficult for him to make friends... even with mares. "Hello, Jingles the Balloon Pony, how is it going? Woke up early, huh?"Word count: 357

Jingles the Balloon Pony's eyes widened as she saw her friend poke his head out. "Hello! Good morning, friend! What are you up to?" Jingles the Balloon Pony was a gregarious pony who easily made friends with other horses. She befriended Charming months ago, and she was the one who suggested he take care of his mane to attract more ladies. I mean, look at her mane! She was the queen of manestyles and adorning herself. Jingles the Balloon Pony did not have any romantic feelings for Charming, but greatly benefited by his presence around her. He was large, handsome, and intimidating, and other horses and creatures that were not so friendly tended to leave her alone when she was with him. Jingles the Balloon Pony was very grateful to him for his protection, and honestly sought him out for it, because, observing him, she realized he was really just a soft guy who needed a friend. Her personality is lively and yet gentle, and so she enjoyed having a stallion who is physically strong and intimidating-looking around her. So, who is a better pony to spend the start of the Spring Celebration with? No one, of course! It's just Charming. "Come on, buddy ol' boy! You have got to let me in!" Jingles the Balloon Pony excitedly exclaimed, as she stompted her hooves repeatedly into the dirt. Did I mention Jingles the Balloon Pony is not very patient? She's a sweet pony, but she is an impatient, sweet pony. Word count: 250

"Oh, Jingles the Balloon Pony, it's only you. You startled me, you know. It's early in the morning. The birds have just started chirping. Heh, maybe you woke up before the dang birds, huh?" Charming breathed a sigh of relief as he backed up to let her into his home. You would think Charming would know Jingles the Balloon Pony well enough by all these months of friendship to know that, if anyone, it would be her making a ruckus in front of his home, early in the morning, demanding she be let in. Charming liked Jingles the Balloon Pony. Obviously, not in a romantic way, but in a platonic way. She was kind and affable and helped him in any way she could. I mean, she has made brilliant suggestions on his grooming habits and jewelry! Just look at him! Have they helped him attract ladies of his taste? Not yet. But Charming keeps trying, and is not out of hope quite yet. He just got started! Oh, Jingles the Balloon Pony, I need to show you these sweet bracelets I got from trading fruits I found in the forest to a raccoon I met by the river. They are just exquisite. I can't stop staring at them. I'd wear them to sleep, but I don't want them to get scratched up while I toss and turn, so I just put them on. And yes, of course, they are made of gold. They have blue stone accents, though. Not sure what they are made of, but they look good, and that is really all that matters, right? Word count: 268

"Yes, it isI!" Jingles the Balloon Pony lept into Charming's home and made a grand entrance. "Ooh, new bracelets? Let me see!" Jingles the Balloon Pony examined the bracelets, and determined that the stones were real-- not imitation. She was a stickler for quality and was worried that he had been swindled by the raccoon. But no. "Looks like you got yourself a good deal, Charming! These look authentic and good. Now. Do you want to get started on the spring cleaning? Did you already start without me?" Jingles the Balloon Pony had woken up early to clean her home. And it was now soo clean, she could roll around and not feel guilty. Nothing would get tangled in her hair or her mane! Was she a clean freak? Maybe. But every spring, she does a thorough cleaning of her home, and it is not for the faint of heart! And as Charming is her good friend, she is happy to help him on this eventful morning. Jingles the Balloon Pony searched all around for something to sweep the floor. "I have a broom made out of leaves in my home-- do you have anything I can use, Charming? How do you clean your home when you do?" Scanning the floors and the home in general, Jingles the Balloon Pony came to the conclusion that Charming was not so much of a slob as she thought he would be. But he could do better, and his home definitely needed a thorough clean. And she was exactly the right pony to help him. Word count: 262

Charming sighed and counted his lucky stars. The raccoon didn't swindle him. I trust Jingles the Balloon Pony, he thought. She really is thorough. I don't need to be worried."I just swish my tail, honestly. I don't do much. I do have a leaf broomstick, but I don't use it often." Charming trotted over to a hidden corner of the room, pulled out a broomstick, and handed it over to Jingles the Balloon Pony. "You can use this, and I'll use my tail-- as always." Charming started from one corner and began swishing away. Cleaning the home was boring... a chore. I wonder how Jingles the Balloon Pony feels about cleaning... I bet she is so much more enthusiastic about it. But this is supposed to be meaningful today. Maybe it'll help me attract more ladies... Charming's mind wandered as he swished away from corner to corner of his home. Word count: 151

"Heh, Charming, don't worry! You weren't tricked or anything. I'd definitely know if you did. You know me." Jingles the Balloon Pony took the leaf broomstick and took her time to sweep all over the home. Cleaning was so very therapeutic for Jingles the Balloon Pony. She felt that it helped declutter not only the home, but also the mind. If you want to think clearly, if you want to metaphorically start over, starting from a clean home is step 1. And she was happy to help her good friend do just that. It was nice to see him clean too. I better explain the importance of cleaning to him... Jingles the Balloon Pony pondered. I need to teach him. It really helps. I hate how he feels so lonely, so I want him to find a good lady. Not that I think him putting so much effort into attracting a lady of his choice is that healthy... I need him to really just focus on himself, help himself, and stop thinking about girls! It's a new year... Maybe I just need to sit him down and talk to him. Hopefully all this cleaning is helping him declutter and think clearly, so he'll come to his senses when I talk to him.
