Ash Wednesday is here! Do you plan on performing a fast for Lent?
In 2023 I fasted from fast food. In 2024, health issues kept me from fasting. However, in 2025 I fasted from chocolate, which was super hard for me. But I succeeded! heart
This year, I'm intending on fasting from red meat throughout Lent and from all meat on Fridays.
What about you? Do you participate in Lent?

That’s great you succeeded in your fast! My Italian side of the family is Catholic so they don’t eat meat on Fridays either. I don’t participate personally, but only because I wasn’t raised in the tradition and I don’t know of any scriptural basis to start adhering to it. 3nodding

I'm also not Catholic. But - why not do it? That's my thought, at least. Not that you have to do it. It's just something I've decided to do myself. I feel it brings me closer to Him, and that's the ultimate goal. For me, at least. It's not about ritual or tradition. It's just about me and Him. heart

I think some Anglicans also do lent? I don't have a reason not to really, but I also don’t find I’m personally drawn to it either. That’s wonderful that you draw close to Him in it, that’s the best reason. ^^
I think if I was to implement anything I would love to do the feasts Jesus also took part in. We used to go to a church with a couple Messianic Jews and they would host a Seder every year. I also did a passover feast with a group of friends once while I was in CA and it was a really wonderful experience.
I just love the idea of participating in the feasts God instituted for His chosen people with the understanding we now have in Jesus! heart

I am glad that you are open about Lent in an encouraging manner. I've been told not to observe Lent because it's "a man-made holiday". And I know of Christians who are super "only do Jewish feasts and holidays - no Christmas, no Easter, no Lent" people, but I find all of this legalistic and completely contrary to what Paul says about people choosing which days to observe and what to eat (Rom. 14 and Col. 2).
We must choose what is spiritually beneficial to us. Any day that is required is slipping into the legalism that Paul warned about, which is why I do not observe Lent out of tradition or requirement but because I find the discipline brings me closer to Him. And that - that is enough.
