Was there a reading of scripture that stuck out to you recently? A sermon you heard that was really impactful?
This is a thread for sharing the Word for edification, encouragement, and discussion!

Do you prefer the Beatitude set up in Matthew (Matthew 5:1-12) or Luke (Luke 6:20-26)? Or perhaps you love both equally but for different reasons.

I have a soft spot for the Matthean Gospel already, compared to the other Gospels, and I prefer the long-form contents of Jesus' teachings in the Sermon on the Mount found in Matthew as opposed to what feels like a condensed version in the same Luke passage.

What about you?

Happy Lord’s Day!

I also have a soft spot for Matthew’s gospel, (and John’s as well.) Luke has always been a more challenging gospel for me personally, and I think it’s mostly because of the condensed writing style as you mentioned.

When I encourage new Christians or non-Christians to read the gospels I usually recommend either Matthew or John for that reason.

Because I don’t read Luke often I actually haven't compared the two versions of the Beatitudes, but now that you mention it that would be a good study to do as I’m rather curious to the differences!

We sang this song today at church, the lyrics are always so comforting to me.

Thank you for sharing that! 3nodding

Do you prefer contemporary Christian music or hymns?

I prefer hymns, myself. And the older, the better. My favorite Christian hymn is probably "O Come, O Come Emmanuel".

I grew up in non-denom churches that did contemporary songs, but I prefer hymns! I'm thankful that the church my husband and I attend now does a lot of hymns, and the more contemporary songs we sing are ones that are theologically rich.

There are so many beautiful ones I adore. O'Come O'Come Immanuel is one of my favorites, especially during Christmas time! I also love:
• O the Deep Deep Love of Jesus
• How Firm a Foundation
• Leaning on the Everlasting Arms
• And Can It Be?
• Crown Him with Many Crowns

aaah there's too many I would go on forever gonk heart

I've been to many churches. Baptist. Brethren. Methodist. Non-denominational. Reformed. I've attended a Catholic wedding but would love to attend a Catholic mass some time, and I'd like to visit the Orthodox church nearby. I currently attend a non-denominational evangelical megachurch. I was baptized into the Church of the Brethren, but I wouldn't necessarily consider myself strictly Brethren (though I'm quite at home with many of their beliefs and practices).

The Christmas hymns are some of my favorite hymns. They hold a special place in my heart. I adore Christmas. It is second only to Halloween, for me.

Other hymns I love include "All Creatures of Our God and King" (derived from St. Francis of Assisi), "How Great Thou Art", and "Be Still My Soul".

heart Happy Lord’s Day everyone! heart

This evening I went to a praise and prayer meting my church does once a month, and it was so encouraging knowing we can all bear our souls to one another before the Lord in prayer and thanksgiving. It’s such a blessing to be able to lift each other up!

If anyone has prayer requests we also have a thread where you can share so we can pray for each other here as well.

Psalm 133:1 (KJV)
[[A Song of degrees of David.]]
Behold, how good and how pleasant [it is] for brethren to dwell together in unity!
