Quote:
Biting Chill ( 18 ) : The cold is strangely harsh, and even the still wind is vicious enough to sting. But the cold isn't the worst part of tonight--it's what comes with it. Out of a swirl of blowing snow, a massive, wispy wolf takes shape, enormous and snarling, with fur spiked like jagged icicles. Its eyes glow with a cold, wild intelligence, and before you can even react, it lunges as though you’ve trespassed deep into its territory. Every strike it makes feels like the bite of winter itself. Wherever its claws slash, wherever its jaws snap, frost cakes over. Even if you're lucky enough not to take massive damage, the cold seeps bone deep. When you manage to land a hit, the creature bleeds a strange, clear blood--icy water that freezes instantly into slush on the ground. The more damage it takes, the more its form flickers, shredded like wind-torn snow. The wolf fights with the relentless instinct of a dire beast, but it is not invulnerable. It will never run. It will fight until its body is broken and flickering, then--finally--a sudden gust will rip through the air and carry its dissolving body away. Howls echo on the wind. The rest of its pack probably isn't too far behind.

Note: This strange wolf is not a youma but can be used as a battle requirement for a character. It can only be used as a battle if there are two powered characters involved; you cannot write a solo and count this as a battle, and your character must be powered to meet battle requirements. You can use the prompt for as many characters as you like and it will count as a battle requirement, however if you repeat the prompt with the same character, only the first time will be usable as a battle.

Make a note, Ilmare thought bleakly as snow and ice swirled around her. The park is a shitty place to patrol in this sort of weather and the trees don’t do a damn thing to break up the wind. The corrupt senshi considered, for a brief moment, untying her hair and letting it act as a sort of cloak. And just as quickly, she dismissed the idea. Parts of her hair already felt crunchy with ice. Letting it loose would only make that particular problem worse.

And how sad was it that stalking though a frozen hellscape was preferable to sitting around at home wondering if her fellow Negaverse agents were about to break the door down to drag her off to see the Generals. Because she was fairly sure that it would happen soon. There was no way that it wouldn’t. If she stayed. The option to run was still open. That was what Maus had done. So why couldn’t she just do the same? Well, she couldn’t yet because she wanted to make sure that she had some kind of cushion to land on. And that took time to set up when you had to be sneaky and not look like you were planning on turning traitor. Getting the new hair color and cut had been risky enough but at least that could be explained away as boredom and a better option than trimming her own bangs.

A sharp howling suddenly echoed and Ilmare’s head shot up, eyes wide and she scanned the area. That had sounded like an actual wolf. Were there actual wolves out in the forests surrounding Destiny City? She had no idea. But the idea was not a comfortable one.

The incident with the wolf the other night had been a lesson for Sailor Tempesti. Aside from the fact that wolves could apparently pop out of anywhere like they were living in a fairytale, they could apparently bring with them a chill so deep that even magical protection could only do so much to mitigate it. She hoped deeply that they wouldn’t put in a repeat performance but if the past summer had taught her anything, it was that even the supernatural monsters who had nothing to do with Chaos didn’t care much for what other people wanted. So to that end she’d thrown a winter coat over her fuku before this evening’s patrol and put a small stash of her homemade scarves in her subspace on the off chance she encountered someone else who needed a bit of extra protection from the cold. But with the Chaos energy signature she’d been tracking, hopefully they wouldn’t be too much of a problem.

As though on cue, a loud howling pierced the night’s quiet and Tempesti wondered if thinking about them somehow made them more likely to show up.

Standing frozen, Ilmare had become distracted by the violently swirling snow. Too distracted, she realized as the snow and ice began to take from and an over-large wolf stepped into the path before her. From its icy fur to its cold, cold eyes, she had to admit it was magnificent looking.

It was also bigger than she was, though it didn't give off youma vibes. Before she could give more thought to that, the wolf turned its head to stare at her and snarled, a low, menacing sound that sent her lizard brain into a panic. She'd barely had time to move out of the way of snapping jaws, in fact, she felt one of those frightening teeth snag against her arm and she screamed as the wound began to frost over.

Oh. Oh s**t.

The order signature bearing down on her didn't really register. How could it when a wolf with icy biting magic that wasn't a youma was intent on trying to eat her for dinner?

Honkzilla
Support would be lovely! She has exactly two and a half order friends, so more would be good.

Tempesti looked around for the Chaos signature, it wasn’t an exceptionally powerful one and she couldn’t help but feel a bit of concern for its source in the face of whatever was producing that howling. It didn’t feel like a youma and some of the things that came out of the city’s strange magic were downright nasty in their approach to a human presence. She’d had a rough time with some of them even after getting a bit stronger in the spring and had definitely appreciated when others came to lend a hand. Hopefully whoever it was would share her inclinations rather than seeking a fight with her after they handled this seasonal force.

The whirling mass of snow was the most likely place to find it and so, it seemed, the agent of Chaos. As a scream shredded the air, the senshi found herself breaking into a sprint toward it. Chaos or not, she wasn’t about to leave this person to be eaten or mauled or something else she wasn’t thinking of by whatever was howling in the dark. Breaking through, a cutting chill punched through her defenses. Pushing through the violence of the wind, she found herself briefly caught off guard by the otherworldly beauty that confronted her, she quickly turned her attention to the other woman…the other senshi in the wolf’s grasp. Where it had broken her skin it appeared like it was…icing over. That was new.

With a grunt, she lunged forward, attempting to pull the thing’s jaws open and release the stranger’s arm from its icy grip. They could attend to the wound once they attended to this angry monster. Trying to shove her knee into its back, she hoped she would bait it to turn its attention to her. Even if it just gave the black clad senshi a chance to run and tend to the strange wound.

Ilmare had not expected rescue. Would have tried to refuse it if possible, not wanting to see anyone hurt on her behalf. But she wasn’t given choice in the matter and thus was incredibly shocked to see a red-headed senshi lunge through the snow and attack the wolf, doing her level best to wrench the things jaws open. She had a brief, stupid moment of wondering when the senshi (in general) had started eating pepper for breakfast before her brain forced itself back on track.

Deciding that she had to assist in her own rescue, the corrupt senshi used her free hand to slap, punch and jab at the wolf’s face. She didn’t dare use her magic. She wouldn’t risk hitting the other senshi and she in no way wanted to know what might happen when an angry and hungry wolf began to trip balls. Fortunately, under the twin onslaughts, the wolf opened its mouth to snarl and Ilmare managed to scoot away, eyeing her arm in horror as it kept icing over. Looking up at the other girl, she yelled, “Look out!” as the wolf tried to turn its attention to her. She couldn’t let her new favorite person get eaten.

So, in spite of her own injury, she threw herself at the wolf’s hind hip, hoping to knock it off balance.

“The frost will go away eventually, one of them got me the other day and the spot is fine now.” Tempesti hoped that her shouted reassurance would be enough to assuage any fears the stranger might have about that particular problem. It wouldn’t do much about the angry wolf trying to turn them into chew toys, but they could take this one issue at a time. Right? Right.

The senshi managed to keep her own arm from the creature’s mouth, though she couldn’t quite dodge the claws that raked across her forearm as it stumbled back. She hissed softly as the cold radiated through the limb, running the same words past her own anxiety as frost splintered along her skin. It hurt now, but it wouldn’t stick around. No point in dwelling on it or wasting energy on being freaked out, especially while they were still in danger.

She knew that she wasn’t quite large enough to fully grapple the thing, but she attempted to wrap her arms around its neck and pull it back. Maybe she could knock it over and give the other woman an opening.

”Oh, it’ll go away eventually,” Ilmare muttered under her breath, trying hard to not cry from the odd pains shooting through the injuries. “That’s just great, but I’m a little more worried about how it's going to affect me right now.” The pain was bad, but not completely debilitating. And, as badly as she might want to run away to hide and lick her wounds, she couldn’t abandon the other senshi. Not when they’d come to her rescue with very little thought to their own safety. All the same, she sat, in mild shock and watched as the other girl tried to tackle and grapple with the massive beast. They were both slight, small-ish women. The idea of trying to wrestle a monster wolf was insanity at best.

Still, the wolf clearly did not want anyone wrapped around its neck and the monster began to toss its head, trying to rear up to shake the redhead off. She had no weapons, she didn’t dare use her magic and she sure as hell wasn’t a wolf wrestler. As she scrabbled to her feet, desperately trying to figure out some solution to this problem, her hand fell on a tree branch, half covered in snow. Fingers curling around it, Ilmare gripped the branch and swung it around. The broken end was jagged, indicating that this had been torn from the main tree in a storm.

Well. She’d wanted a way to fight. Looks like the universe had listened.

Hefting the branch, she watched the wolf carefully before charging in when it had its head thrown back. Aiming the ragged edge of the branch at the exposed neck, she lunged, yelling out, “Get ready to jump!”

When the branch hit, it almost felt like trying to drive a straw into an ice cube. But the improvised spear broke through icy fur and flesh. Just… not enough to really do them any good. At best, right now it was only managing to keep a distance between her and those terrible jaws. And even that was iffy at best.

“I can’t do this by myself!” she yelled, panic rising in her voice. She hated the idea of hurting an animal, but normal animals didn’t have magical ice teeth. This thing was a monster. She was more than okay with putting it down. She just needed help to do that.

Tempesti grimaced, leaving this fight to her physical abilities didn’t feel like the best option but zapping the other senshi would definitely only make the situation worse. She wanted to believe that her abilities would follow her intention, but she hadn’t exactly tried them in a situation where she was fighting in tandem with someone who answered to Chaos and she wasn’t quite in a hurry to test it in a situation like this.

At the sight of the incoming branch, Tempesti dropped from the wolf’s back, landing on the ground with a soft grunt. “I don’t know if using my magic right now would hit you too! I might have something though.”

Managing to push aside her frustration with the ambiguity of magical friend/foe detection, she called forth the multitool that resided in her subspace. Its little utility knife all but shouted that it was not useful for combat, but since she couldn’t use the most useful weapon at her disposal it would have to do. Pulling it open, she aimed its tip at the thing’s side.

Glancing at the other senshi, Ilmare kept her mouth firmly shut. There was no point in starting a fight over the other woman's choice in weaponry. Though, she thought, it did help to offer some alternatives to whatever deadlock she was currently stuck in. And when the other senshi jabbed at the wolf, Ilmare watched very carefully, waiting for the wolf to react.

Which it did, rearing back and snapping its head to the side. Whipping her branch free from where it had been holding the wolf off, the corrupt moved as quickly as she could, gritting her teeth against the icy pain. Now she wielded the branch like a club and swung with everything she had as she brought it around to smash against the wolf's face.

Tempesti hadn’t expected much from the utility knife’s small blade, despite its length she knew that stabbing was pretty far from its intended purpose. But as a distraction it seemed like it worked pretty well, considering that it granted the other senshi an opening. A sympathetic grimace crossed her face at the less than pleasant sound as the branch made contact with the wolf’s face. Dispatching it was better than the alternative, of course, but that didn’t stop her from feeling a bit of pity for the strange creature as its form flickered and faded into the winter wind.

With a soft sigh the senshi turned toward her unexpected comrade in arms. “Are you alright?” Hashing out whatever potential faction conflicts might arise could wait, and she certainly wasn’t one to break the peace without a good reason.

For a moment, Ilmare stood frozen in place, branch still gripped and held out ready to swing. She wasn’t exactly sure how or why the wolf simply fading away, but the fact that it faded verified that it had been no youma. Glancing around warily, she wondered if this was a trick and the damn brute was going to pop out of hiding to try and eat them. When several moments went by, she gradually relaxed, lowering her weapon and then dropping it altogether in favor of holding her freezing arm close to her chest and hissing very softly. She spared a mild glance at the other senshi and even managed a small, tight smile before giving her head a single shake.

“Can’t say I’m all right,” she answered. “But I ain’t dead, so I suppose that’s a plus. You?”

Maybe it was a little brusque, but in fairness, she was colder than she could have ever imagined and her arm felt like it was freezing and burning at the same time. She was pretty sure Miss Manners would give her a pass on sounding a little stilted in this case. All the same… the red-haired senshi had come to her rescue in spite of her being a Corrupt. She had not been abandoned to her fate. “Look, I’m grateful. Really. But I just watched a monster wolf literally fade from existence and my arm feels like a chunk of flexible ice. It wasn’t a youma, I don’t know what it was. I am cold, tired, confused and tryin’ real hard to not start crying. So, if I’m coming across as rude, I am really sorry. I promise I’m not about to turn around and attack the civilian populace. I just want to go home. I only really came out to be able to honestly say I had if they asked.”

She actually chuckled and her smile got a little brighter. “I suppose now I can say I was in a fight with a White Moon senshi if they ask and I won’t be lying at all. I did fight with you and it’s not my fault if they misunderstand how much weight that little ‘with’ is shouldering.” Aware that she might be venturing into Talk Too Much-land, Ilmare hugged her arm a little closer and sighed. The cold was making her stupid. “Seriously, thank you. I’m Ilmare. And I really am going straight back to my apartment after this. Honest.”
