Hobbies:
Travelling - Due to his family's business of hunting and poaching exotic wild animals as well as selling them on the black market and delivering them to their buyers, Ren and his family has constantly been on the move since he was young. They've developed enough of a network since then that Ren has been able to settle down in Destiny City more or less while his family hires other people to do the hunting, poaching, selling, and delivering. However, Ren still enjoys coming along for trips every so often when he can for the adventure and the love of other cultures and places and meeting other people from around the world.
Cooking Exotic Foods - Ren can cook exotic foods due to having travelled around the world with his family since he was very young and having tasted, tried, and learned many things about cooking from various countries. Because many of his father's friends purchase exotic animals on the black market from his father and use those exotic animals for things like delicacies and special dishes, Ren has learned a lot about making exotic and gourmet cuisine from them. Because of this, he has come to very much enjoy cooking, especially for people he cares about.
Learning New Languages - As another result of having travelled around the world with his family since he was very young due to his family business, Ren has come to pick up various languages and is multi-lingual. Among the languages he knows are Japanese, English, and French. This is a skill and hobby his father especially encouraged him to develop because in order to do good business on the black market with people from various countries all over the world, it was important to know how to speak their language so they didn't get swindled and they knew how to negotiate and haggle fairly and properly in order to get good deals. It also helps Ren be more sociable with more people because since he didn't stay too long in any one place, he wanted to try to be sociable in order to make friends any way he could.
Playing Football (A.K.A. Soccer) - Ren is very much a football (or soccer as it's known in the U.S.) fan because it's a spot that is popular in countries all over the world and a hobby he feels he can share with many friends he has in many places. He enjoys both cheering on his favorite teams and players while watching their games as well as partaking in the game itself. After many years playing various other people from other countries and learning their techniques, he's become fairly good at it, too.
Caring for Animals - Ren loves animals and caring for them, especially black and white ones. Since he was little, he was taught how to care for them as part of learning about his family business and he knows how to care for them fairly well. Unfortunately for him, despite how much he loves animals, they don't seem to love him very much and he gets scratched, bitten, and clawed regularly. Though he mostly cared for animals his family poached and sold in the past, these days he focuses more on caring for his own personal pets because much of the hard labor of his family business has been delegated to hired help. He also used to have quite a menagerie of animals he used to keep as pets, but since he took on a job and started living on his own, he's cut down on the number of animals he cares for a great deal. Not that that means he loves animals in general any less.
Virtues:
Passionate - Ren can be quite intense as he is passionate about a great deal and a true romantic. Sometimes it can be a bit too much for some people especially when he comes on strong. For those he does manage to click with, however, he is very loyal to them and values whatever friends he makes, preferring to have a few close ones he stays in touch with rather than a great many he doesn't know very well or contact very often. If he ever had a partner, he would do his best to be the best partner he could to them and is extremely protective of everyone close to him, especially since his mother died.
Sensitive - Having travelled and lived in various places all over the world, Ren has a broad understanding of people in general, especially those in great poverty and who have to live hard lives in order to survive. As a result, he also has a quick and delicate appreciation of others' efforts and feelings. This is one reason he makes a very loyal and caring friend to those who can managed to get on his good side. While he considers few people to be true friends of his, he is extremely over-protective of those few and will do whatever he can to maintain, protect, and preserve his friendships with those he cares about. He may be easy to insult or anger, but only because he cares a lot about what people say and think.
Gentlemanly - Depending on his mood, Ren can seem like the perfect gentleman (mostly toward girls). When in the best of moods, he’s outwardly calm, patient, polite, and funny. He is often very chivalrous and cares strongly about people. He also really hates to see girls cry and will do his best to avoid such a scenario, but will try to comfort them if he ever encounters it.
Direct - This young man will not mince words and prefers honesty and directness over politeness any day. He is bluntly honest and truthful when it comes to his opinion and will not hold back even for his friends or those he holds in high esteem. He values trust deeply in any relationship and thus will not stand even for 'little white lies' even if that can make him forthright to the point of being brutal. However, he's also willing to accept others being brutal to him if it's a truth they believe he needs to hear.
Flaws:
Hot-tempered - Ren has a horrible temper and he knows it. His anger is triggered easily when under stress or when someone is in his way. He's taken anger management classes a little since his youth and it's helped him somewhat, but there are still occasions when things can get out of hand for him because he's such a passionate person. He can get especially heated in the kitchen of his workplace, but he does his best to keep things professional and under control - at least until he can utilize another outlet for his anger such as off the clock.
Aggressive - One of Ren's most common ways of dealing with his anger is to be aggressive. He can be aggressive both physically and verbally and can often be something of a bully - sometimes without even realizing it. Beating people up in drunken bar fights or wrestling with animals his family hunts and poaches are both ways he has found to expend his aggressive energy physically. Sometimes he'll get into a fist fight with his own brother just to let off some steam even though his brother is older than him. Unfortunately, his aggression can make him quick to resort to physical force as he's a very physically violent person. Aggression is a common coping mechanism of his.
Dissolute - Due to the nature of his family's business always having been sketchy and unscrupulous because they relied on illegally poaching animals and selling on the black market, Ren's sense of morals has always been rather lax. He's the kind of person who thinks almost anything is alright to do as long as you can get away with it and it isn't hurting someone he cares about. He's also pretty relaxed in how he treats his health since he uses drinking to deal with his temper and his sorrows and insecurities. He's also been known to get into fights and drive recklessly fast. It's even been suspected that he may have turned to illegal drugs from time to time like cocaine, but he's never been caught at it.
Toxically Masculine - Ren considers himself to be quite masculine and a 'typical guy'. He is prone to mocking others and making a spectacle of them in public in order to hide his own insecurities. When he's wronged, he can be rather contemptuous and is more likely to hold a grudge and try to get revenge than to forgive and let something go. He also grapples with trying to seem tough and powerful while trying to push down his more sensitive or feminine attributes because since his mother died, he was conditioned to value more masculine attributes by his father and his older brother, Daisuke, who's favored by his father.
