I'm itching to talk about cars, so let's do it here, yeah? 3nodding
- - -
I have a 2010 Scion tC, I'm the 3rd owner & financed it from a used car lot in my city (paid off! I AM OWNER~).
I've had it since about 2016 I think? About 32,000 miles on the ODO when bought, now up to over 280,000+ now. Driven to Atlanta & Iowa and back, plus circled the city of Jax and plenty of backroads dozens of times.
She's taken some damage and been in a few scuffles since then, but she still runs just fine despite looking less than stellar these days. I put some stickers and decals on her, including a FLCL one and 2 matching ones on each fender that say "SHITBOX EDITION"xp
It's lowered, weight reduced & tuned so she actually rides smoother than my grandma's Chrysler 200, & she's fast as fuqq boii~ I once got pulled over for taking a turn at 47MPH through a main intersection without even realizing it. I chatted with the cop who pulled me over & showed him the sticker inside the door that verified the weight reduction and explained that the engine was tuned for the original weight so she has more speed due to having to pull less weight and he let me off without even a warning, haha.
I've also had a couple of douchebag dudes get bitter at me for having a nice car try to vandalize her- my own brother, jealous that he's burned through 6 cars before 30, cracked my windshield, ripped off the hatch release button, and kicked a dent in both fenders. One guy who was supposed to be simply replacing a belt tried to tell me it was totaled and that he ould buy her from me for $300, he also stole half my tools out of the back but I didn't notice until I had the car towed back home and got her running again myself. I've had 2 mechanics aside from that doucher tell me she was totaled during times when she was out of service & try to buy her from me lowball, but I towed her home every time and got her going again- that's how you know she's a sleeping beastcool
Although thanks to those guys trying to screw me out of a wicked good car, I now know how to do all her maintenance, repairs, and restoration myself bc spite is a mighty, mighty motivator~
I've lived in this car 3x, with my now late doggo and my 2 cats, and she kept us all warm and safe every time. She's a fighter & protector and I fkn loooove her. I named her Zipperheart

Even if you don't have a car, I'd still love some car convo! What cars you like, cool ones you saw in movies/on TV, ones your family had growing up- anything car related is welcome!

Wow, your car sounds really cool and I can tell you really love it. I like the name you gave it, too. ^^ I'm so sorry you had to deal with people damaging and sabotaging your car, lying to you and even trying to steal it or stolen stuff from it. Your brother sounds like a total douchebag, sorry. I'm really glad you were able to recover your car each time and that you even went ahead and learned all the maintenance and repairs yourself. That's awesome! It's a good thing you knew what you had and didn't let anyone take it from you. She sounds fun to drive and I am also happy that she was there for you to live in while being homeless, keeping you and your beloved pets safe. I hope you don't ever have to live in your car again, though.
There's a carnival ride called The Zipper that comes to the Gladstone Harbour Festival most years. I've never been on it though because it's one of those rides that spins you a lot and people often get sick riding it, lol.
I do not have a car and I can't drive due to my health issues, both mental and physical. BUT, I do in fact have some small interest in cars. Usually those beautifully designed vintage cars. They might not be as fast or have all the features of newer and more modern cars but boy are they stunning to look at! They have character and class. My favourite dream car is a 1960s Cadillac convertible in cherry red. The fins and the rocket lights and everything. <3 I enjoy going to vintage car shows for fun and have been in years past with my family. I also really like Batman's car. It's so cool, ahehe! And of course, this is going to sound silly but I like good old Chitty Chitty Bang Bang from the old family movie.
Another type of vehicle that I've fallen in love with is the most modern family vans. Vans that have a ton of cool features for parents and kids, and can fit a whole bunch of kids in them at once. I was Googling them for a pregnancy rp fanfiction I'm writing where the couple has a lot of babies after visiting a magical hot springs that makes people pregnant. And the features on them and in them are really awesome!

I love that ride, but we get Hildebrand fairs where I live & even as a teen they were sketchy so nooo way I'd get on one again nowsweatdrop
& even if I do end up living in my car again, I'll be okay. My only gripe would be losing my stuff bc I can't fit me and the cats AND everything I own in it all at the same time- it's only a 2-door hatchback coupe after all. The housing/rental market where I live is insane but my grandma's is starting to get oppressive so idk, I might try to finance a cheap RV or something even though nowadays you can't find one running for under $15k even in crap condition which is ballsacksscream
I'm sure I'll figure it out either way. I'm getting really good at leaning out & letting s**t happen which is actually turning out better than *any* amount of planning & hustling I've ever done, ironicallyemotion_skull
As for mi car, I bought some goodies: a set of smoked LED headlights, a Bluetooth adapter with twin USB ports that plugs into the ciggy lighter port so I don't have to keep taking it out to charge it and still charge my phone, and next check after the bill cycle I'll get the matching smoked LED tail lights, then after that I'll start replacing the body panels bc not a single one isn't dented or scratched at this point. I can get a primed bumper from eBay Motors for less than $130, and I gotta replace the windshield bc there's like a 10" crack in it but since I no longer have full coverage I don't get a free one every year, weh. Worth it for $95/month car insurance thoughhh haha~

Ohhh, sketchy like, they were dangerous? I've never been brave enough to try it either. I'm scared of most of the rides, lol. I've head that if you puke in one, you get tossed in it, so that's gross. Lol.
Well...I'm glad to hear that you'd be okay (and your kitties). Though it's not the ideal situation. It's better to be able to keep you and your cats safe in there. Losing your stuff would be hard. cat_crying I've got a bunch of stuff I wouldn't want to lose, either. But I suppose you can usually buy it back one day. How did you manage to live with 2 cats in such a small space, though? Where did you put their litter tray and food/water dishes?
Yeah, the housing and rent market is insane here as well. I think it's an issue in multiple countries atm. I'm with dept. of housing to try to get a unit in Brisbane, closer to my family, but the waitlist is super long and nothing has become available in 8 years, it seems. I got an email from them today stating I am on the list, but they've never contacted me with any potential properties to offer me. Anyway, an RV sounds like a good plan! If only they weren't so costly! But it'd give you some more living space. So your grandma isn't being nice to you? That's a shame. RV might be the way to go, even if you have to get a cheaper one and slowly refurbish it. So long as you and your cats have a safe place to live, that's the main thing. Oh, btw, have you seen those big buses that people turn into homes on wheels, kinda like an RV I guess but way bigger. Those seem cool.
Hmm, well I hope no more bad things happen to you. Though it sounds like you've gotten good at adapting to live's curveballs at this point. <3
I had to Google what smoked headlights were. They look nice. Fancier than your usual sorta lights anyway. The Bluetooth adapter sounds very useful and convenient. Good to have somewhere to charge your phone. Sounds like the car needs a bit of work but is a labour of love and you'll get it looking better and better over time. Just don't make it look too good or uh...well, I've heard in some places in the US, there are car thieves, so...maybe play it safe. cat_sweatdrop Sounds like eBay offers a good price for a replacement bumper. And oof, windshields getting chipped and cracked is so common, having to repair and replace them would get expensive I'd imagine. So having a free replacement every year would have been handy. But you have to do what you can afford. So I understand that!
Oh, my sister's car to her prom was a nice Jaguar. I can't help but love a car named after a feline, lol.

I have a 1997 Oldsmobile LSS, which is a Delta 88 with a sport package, that belonged to my late mother-in-law. When I broke my ankle in May 2021 I had to stop driving, and a year later when I could drive again I used my late father-in-law's car until August 2023 when I gave that car to my daughter. The Olds needed some work before I garaged it, and in those 2 years the brakes bled out and the battery gave up the ghost, so I'm going to tow it to a garage owned by a guy in a local car club and have him put it back in running order. It's got roughly 70K miles on the clock and my MiL took excellent care of it before it came into my possession. It's def a keeper.
Of all the cars I've owned I don't have an all-time fav, but my top are the 1966 Continental Coupe and 1993 Lincoln Mark VIII Continental, which I bought new and was totalled when a speeding teenager t-boned me a few months after I got it. I'd planned to have the Mark VIII as my forever car, but oh well!

My doooood, brakes & battery are easy peasy!! I know brakes can seem intimidating at first but they're actually really simple, & you can pick up and install a battery yourself with just a socket wrench! I learned everything from a combination of Googling "how to replace/fix ___" & youtube without ever having anyone to ask for help! Seriously, it's so easy I taught my nephew how to replace a car battery when he was 7 bc mine had died3nodding
& I'm so sorry to hear abt the Mark VIII, that's absolutely tragicgonk
90's Lincolns are some of my favorites- the wide body squared Towncars hnnng-emotion_kirakira Plus that massive engine bay is a DREAM to do work in yes yes

I took auto mechanics in high school and used to do a lot of my own maintenance. The only reason I don't change the battery myself is because they didn't hand-tighten it down. I need the Hulk or an air wrench Lulz. I can't safely drive it anyway because I have to use the emergency brake to stop and I'm not willing to take that chance. Once I it's drivable again I'll look it over and see what else needs doing.
You're dead-on about how-to vids on YT. I repaired our dryer two weeks ago thanks to a YT vid. It only cost me $20 for the parts and a few hours. I had to take most if it apart to get the drum out and replace all four rollers, but I did it!
I don't have any pictures of my cars (that I know of, anyway) except my '85 Capri RS. It was a helluva lot of fun while it lasted. The pics were taken in the '80's so they're not the best.

Definitely don't drive a car with bad brakes! but fluid & pads are cheap so I was thinking more of just replacing/repairing them yourselfsweatdrop My HS had auto shop, I signed up for it but ended up in gym bc female & it was a small, conservative townscream
As for the battery, put a non-socket wrench on it & tap it loose with a mallet or another heavy tool, but go easy. Don't wanna break anything like I have before (snapped a lug nut post lololol). As long as you go slow and keep gently applying more force it'll come loose. I only use hand tools & I've done a ton to my car- replaced the valve cover gasket, brakes, alternator, serpentine belt, battery and terminals (I wanted bigger connectors just a preference) all with hand tools. I swear by hand tools, they work just as well or even better IMO.
+That is a gorgeous machineemotion_kirakira I personally dislike the smooth body styles despite my car being more rounded like a modern car, but strangely I was drawn to the Scion TCs because of the body style. I hope you can get another Capri or Oldsmobile again one day, late 80s &90's cars are honestly the pinnacle of cars I think!
Guys the train horn I bought for my car arrived today emotion_dowant But bc my car has 2 horns in it atm (high&low) now I have to get some of those yellow wiring cap things to cap the wires together since I only got the 1 train horn. It's 3x louder than the horns I have in there now so I don't rlly want to put 2 train horns in despite the fact it was only $13. It's legal to have a train horn in my car but still, I don't wanna be too obnoxious. I'm at the age where unfortunately I don't automatically get a free pass 2 be an a** just bc of my age anymore emotion_awesome

Oh cool!! That sounds like fun. When you get it installed, if you can you're willing, upload a sound file for us. cat_biggrin

I'll see if I can figure out how to do that, I've heard of Vocaroo but never used it before myself. I wish I had gone ahead & installed it yesterday bc today omw to the hardware store a dumb b***h in a giant SUV almost ran me off the road trying to merge into my lane without even lookingscream
On another note, my smoked LED headlights came today, but it was storming all day so I didn't even attempt to do anything with them. Plus, I thought they were easy install, like plug-n-play, but nooope- I gotta wire them ingonk
Granted, I do know how to splice wired and do basic electrical work, I just fukken hate it bc I absolutely never get it right the first time. Even with my STEM & engineering tinker skills it still sometimes feels like some arcane demon magics with a vendetta against my peace of mindemotion_donotwant
I did also get the yellow wiring caps today though, so... yey? Aaaahemotion_skull

So how about I was scrolling Amazon & found the same set of smoked LED headlights I just got yesterday, but these are pre-wired with plugs so you can just boop 'em right into the car. And they're $19 cheaper.burning_eyes
I have begun the eBay return process, thank the God I don't believe in that it's free or else I'd be pissy.
I have to wait till tomorrow (Monday) to go to the bank & move more money to my PayPal to get the plug-n-play headlights though. Womp womp.
