Tapeworm was one of many clones created by a man named Aleksei Kovalev as a part of FEV experimentation. Wanting to create a line of mutants that were more compact and resembled humans more than the big green dumb-dumbs the wasteland came to know, he began testing out the effects of FEV on clones of himself, as he possessed DNA that would create ideal mutants. Through this experimentation, he began to create what he came to call "born mutants," as he would infect developing specimens with controlled amounts of FEV. Though, he wasn't quite getting the results he wanted, with his subjects continuously mutating as they aged.
Eventually, the mutants he had created revolted and destroyed his lab. Kovalev was thought to have perished in the destruction, but no remains were found. A friend and hired muscle of Kovalev, a mercenary named Stag, had been there that day and managed to save himself and the youngest subject. He named this young boy Aleksei, after his progenitor.
Stag went on to raise little Aleksei and began to command his own band of raiders mercenaries. Here, Aleksei learned to fight, and fight well. He became a frequent face at the Combat Zone, as well as a pair of fists for hire. Though, he was not vicious person, despite his upbringing and occupations.
One of Aleksei's closest friends was a man about his age named Tripp. They both enjoyed a good spar and became inseparable, until someone appeared one day to take Tripp away. Aleksei didn't know what was going on, aside from the fact that this person was alarmingly strong and was able to subdue both himself and Tripp. He would later go on to learn that his person was an Institute courser and that Tripp was an escaped synth. Wanting to get his friend back, Aleksei managed to get in with the Railroad and serve as a "heavy."
Aleksei's codename "Tapeworm" is from a nickname Tripp gave him because he eats a lot and always seems to be hungry.
Tapeworm is a surprisingly kind and gentle person. Sure, he loves fighting and partaking in reckless, stupid behavior, but he always maintains a sunny attitude and willingness to help.
