Yeah, it is really frustrating. I'll probably be seeing a sleep doctor soon because it's been like 4 years now. I've tried all kinds of things to fox my sleep, but noon - 2-3AM seems to be the most stable schedule that my body can stick to.
I'm also on medication for my depression, and it has definitely gotten much more manageable, thought I do have occasional bouts here and there.
Unfortunately, in our world today it seems like there are soooo many things that can cause insomnia like medications, blood sugar problems, thyroid issues, adrenal problems, stress, taxing work schedules, depression, anxiety, allergies, other hormone imbalances, etc. etc.
I hope the cause of yours will be easy to reverse.
I remember one thing that really helped me when I couldn't sleep at night was Melatonin 5mg.
Another thing was orange safety glasses. I would put them on like 2-4 hours before bed and they block out the blue light at night (from computer screens, lamps, television screens, cell phones, etc.) I found a 2 pair on Amazon. I probably need to order another pair or two soon as mine have gotten old and scratched, but they are still great. I found that when using them I'd fall asleep much faster and sleep a lot deeper. I tried using the orange light and stuff on the computer, but doesn't do as good as the safety glasses because of the other blue light sources around the house more than likely. These days they seem a lot cheaper than they used to be, too.
If it's cortisol problems, some people find that it is helpful to go outside first thing in the morning, get about 10-20 minutes of fresh air and sun and then go back outside, do it again in the afternoon, and then once more at sunset. This helps regulate your cortisol and helps tell your body to wind down. So many people are stuck indoors all day whether it's school or work and the blue light throws it all off if used because we can't sleep.
I hope that you're able to find more relief, too! I'm glad that you have some sort of sleep schedule because sleep in important. I used to be the type to go to bed anywhere between midnight and 4 a.m. and then sleep until 3 p.m., but I can't do that anymore. Now a days I just wish I had more energy, though. That would seriously be something.
