Unusual characteristics have been recorded in various individuals in and around ____ over the past 30 years. These traits and behavior patterns have been categorized into two types:
Type 1 Symptoms are typically reported shortly after a strange encounter only faintly remembered. Individuals have made claims of sudden strange dreams and visions, of which they can't begin to describe in detail, with only vague recollections of "something to do with a worm." While most appear to be stressed by said dreams, others haven become obsessed, feeling reassured by such visions and seeing them as some sort of holy calling. Alongside these reports, many claim to hear a soft, constant melody in their heads. This melody allegedly gets louder the further they venture in a particular direction. In more advanced stages, Type 1 individuals begin to show outward changes, namely dark blotches on the whites of their eyes and sallowing of skin. By that point, most turn up missing, and any further advanced stages have yet to be observed.
Type 2 With far less details known about this classification, it's thought that these abnormalities are congenital, as they are reported as life-long or not the result of any sort of encounter. Symptoms are somewhat similar in nature to Type 1, without the presence of a melody. Instead, Type 2 individuals are capable of producing this song themselves, despite Type 1 always being unable to describe or recreate it. Even though Type 2 people claim to not be able to hear the song, they often hum or vocalize a similar tune to themselves, which in turn can attract the attention of Type 1s. There are no outward changes to a Type 2's appearance and symptoms never appear to worsen.

THE WATCHERS

Also sometimes shortened to "Watch," The Watchers are an organization comprised of both humans and preternatural beings that seek to understand, catalogue, and defend the Earth from otherworldly forces, both extraterrestrial and interdimensional. Over the years, they have developed a classification system in which they place these beings in relation to the Earth.
CLASSIFICATIONS
ABERRANTS
Aberrants are beings that are classified as mostly human, or as having human/terrestrial origins.
Type 1
Type 2 Further research into Type 2 Aberrants have identified them as less human than they outwardly appear. Having only inherited a human guise, genetically, they are nearly identical to a Tyrant Worm—specifically, Miracidia. Interrogation of Miracidian Cultists have yielded some information as to how Type 2 Aberrants are made, though all information coming from said cultists should be taken with a grain of salt. It has been stated that Type 2 Aberrants were exposed to small, parasitic "spores" produced by Miracidia while in-utero. These spores attach themselves to the fetus and and become fused, in turn creating a new lifeform that shares more genetic makeup with the Tyrant Worm than its human relatives. Further questioning lead Miracidian Cultists to reveal that these beings, dubbed by their order as "Canticles," are highly revered as spreaders of their god's gospel, as they are the only other being capable of producing similar vocalizations. Creation of these "Canticles" are not limited within these cults, as it was highly suggested that these "spores" are periodically released into civilization, where they can infect a wider range of potential hosts.
PRETERNATURAL CLASSIFICATIONS
Symbiotic A being from another planet or dimension that is proven to have benevolent intentions. All preternatural beings allied with The Watchers are classified as Symbiotic, along with those that have aided Earth and its inhabitants in the past.
Apathetic A being from another planet or dimension that has no interest in Earth, choosing to ignore or stay clear of it. Though some beings classified as Apathetic have shown signs of aggression towards other planets and dimensions, their classification is only meant to describe their relationship with Earth.
Parasitic A being from another planet or dimension that seeks to use Earth and/or its inhabitants to their detriment, while it benefits in some way.
Catastrophic A being from another planet or dimension that is a threat to Earth without any particular benefit to itself. These beings can be bent on destruction for the sake of it, or even unknowingly become a dangerous force. Many Apathetic beings have later been re-classified as Catastrophic due to dangerous trajectories.

Species: Tyrant Worm
Aliases: Miracidia, Lull
Classification: Parasitic
Known by many names, it is a variant of the known Tyrant Worm in The Watcher's database. An entity with a parasitic classification, "Miracidia," hence its nickname, most closely resembles the second stage of a trematode's life cycle in both function and appearance. Like the miracidium found in trematoda, the Tyrant Worm begins life as a larva and seeks an intermediate host. This is, however, where all similarities end; whereas the trematode takes hosts ranging from mollusks to other animals such as humans, the Tyrant Worm has a much more spiritual, large-scale approach. These cosmic parasites hook themselves to other planets and dimensions, feeding on attention and praise. It prefers to go about this feeding practice by asserting itself as the highest order to the targeted species; in humans, it most frequently claims itself as a god, or the god, depending on the individual. Its vocalization have been described as humming, melodic, or song-like, though no explicit message can be discerned.
One peculiar feature of Miracida is its ability to hijack and lure humans to it via electronic devices. It's assumed this is due to the limit of its vocal range and thus, it needed to adapt in order to lure humans close enough to its area of influence. Curiously, its song cannot be properly recorded and any attempt to recreate the sound does not have any effects on those who listen to it. Type 2 Aberrants are the only exception, though recordings of their vocalization don't seem to carry any effects, either.
Those who hear Miracidia's song will inadvertently be infected with its influence and become more predisposed to its will. These individuals are classified as Type 1 Aberrants.
Based on the observations of other Tyrant Worms, Miracidia seeks to overtake the minds of humans, feeding off their praise and belief of its godhood, in turn, making it something of a god itself. It's surmised that once this is achieved, it will strip the frail remains of its subjects' minds before abandoning them to a dying, withered planet. Given the Type 2 Aberrant's close relationship with Miracidia, it's thought that these individuals may be reabsorbed into it, or possibly become Tyrant Worms themselves.

a buncha people had gone missing in the town of Clarksville, MA over the past 30 years.
Some were found, though they were all different after that and none could explain what happened.
many speculations arose as to what caused these disappearances, or if any of them were truly connected at all.
the popular theory was that it was due to cults, though of what sort differs from person-to-person. Others allege these people were drugged and maybe had organs removed or something, hence their lack of memory.
it's also strange that some of those who went missing and were later found tend to go missing again after exhibiting odd behavior.
in more recent years, people from out of town were also going missing there, despite it being a local thing before then.
these out of towners had been brought there by gps systems going off track to take them to strange, secluded places. others were brought by apps like randonautica, or even get requests from services like doordash or uber. they'd be sent to deliver to some place in the middle of nowhere and either not be seen again, or would come to, but never be the same.
many people have now gathered from a variety of backgrounds, but all with this mystery in common, whether they knew someone who went missing, or had been a missing person themself. there's something going on in Clarksville, MA, and someone needs to do something about it.

₀₄. Though romance is great and can add a lot to a story, I don't want it to take over the role play.
₀₅. Please remain active in posting. If you're going away for a while or want to quit, please let me or a mod know, especially if you have other people waiting on you to post. It can really slow a role play down waiting for people who are never going to come back.
₀₆. After your profile is accepted, I would like at least an opening post or some form of activity on the Discord server over the next week. If you had second thoughts after finishing your profile and don't want to be in the RP anymore, then don't be afraid to say so.
₀₇. For post formatting, please at least include a picture of your character and their name. Anything beyond that is optional.
₀₈. Inactivity for approximately two weeks without notification will result in your character being killed or removed. You may rejoin, but if your previous position has been filled, you can't get it back.
ᴄʜᴀʀᴀᴄᴛᴇʀs
₀₁. There will be a cap on how many Type 1 and Type 2 characters can be in the RP. This number may change depending on how many people join or how the story progresses. It will be possible for a character classified as ordinary to become a Type 1.
₀₂. Every character must have some connection to the plot in some way, whether someone they knew someone that went missing, they're a Type 1 who's been struggling with its symptoms, they're investigating, etc. Any reason you can come up with, but they must have some connection to the events of the story.
