About Jais/Hekiko
Jais = The Person
I enjoy playing dress-up with little pixel dolls, and then overthinking how I and other people play dress-up with little pixel dolls.
(Avatar rendition of Jais with guest appearance by Shan the kitty)
Hekiko = The Avatar
Hekiko isn't really a character, but she's started to feel separate from 'Jais' and has a bit of lore going on to justify all the outfit changes. She's a recluse and character actress who can shift to various planes via the power of dress-up. While she has the biggest affinity for odd misfit girls like herself; she's willing and able to take on many guises in her adventures.

About the avatars
A little introduction to the most important parts of my avatar-building style.
Item-based: Most of my avatars start from an item inspiration. I have a perpetual EI/REI challenge going on since 2013, where I build an avatar for every pose for every evolving item. Once upon a time, I did a similar challenge for MCs, where I'd make 3 avatars for each human item. Even for freeform avatars, I tend to start with an item pose and then build the whole avatar around that piece. I like the concept of building avatars around ideas (songs/character concepts/cosplays/fashion styles/etc.) but it rarely sticks.
Color-mixing: It's fairly rare that I stick with one color scheme in an avatar. Usually, I'll usually use 2-3 color schemes as my focus and add non-matching details where I think they look good. I like playing up combinations that shouldn't work together, or blending older pre-color scheme items with new ones.
Quirky-style: I like to try out a lot of different styles, but my default style is quirky. For me, quirky is taking a common style just twisting it just a little bit so it tells a story or conveys a mood you wouldn't expect.
Quality via Quantity: Instead of spending a lot of time refining one avatar over again until it's perfect, I usually put together an avatar until it feels complete and then move on to the next one. I make a lot more avatars, and a few of them actually turn out pretty amazing, by my standards.

I'm putting my ghost code here in case anyone wants to play in my inventory. I always appreciate fresh eyes on my invo, even if it's highly unlikely I'd wear anyone else's creation. I also like playing in other people's inventories.
I love how you shared about your building style, and introduced your character in her "natural state."
Your 2013 + 2015 avatars are my faves -- and the 2020 pirate girl! I'm swooning.
Thank you. 4laugh
I'm really surprised at how well the 2013 ones hold up considering how many basic face items didn't come out until later. The Pirate Girl was me trying to make some magical girls that were inspired by their Sailor Moon counterparts, but weren't cosplays or direct rip offs of the original characters. Clearly she was the favorite tho.
I liked the clothing and hair style of the original, so I focused on the face details and the background for the remake.
There were quite a few eyemods available when she was created, and a little bit of make up/mouth mods, but nothing like the variety we have today. Most of the non-lipstick makeups were part of the Masquerade EI.
The avatar also uses the Masterpieces base mod, which covers up a lot of eye mods and even eyes on some of the full facemods, the the Daughter of Snows one in the original.
Isn't it weird when the eyes layer together sometimes? I wish there was a "bring to front" feature, or some kind of layering manipulator whee
