Hello! I'm probably a month or so away from moving to America, I'm from Latin America and I married someone from there. The visa just was approved. (actually we met here heart )--- The thing is, I'm scared cuz I already had my fair share of "not-so-racist" comments. I worked with american co-workers (I'm an ESL teacher) and they would look down on my country. Same to some people on my fiance's surroundings. Not his family!!! thanks GOD. But the culture is so different sometimes, like I'm used to hugging and TALKING about ur feelings, and I have noticed they don't do that much there. BESIDES I'm SUPER scared to be treated badly because of where I come from... my fiance says I will be ok I should not worry,... but I've always been the weird kid here, I cant imagine there D; I was SUPER bullied when I was in school .____. I don't want this to start all over again.... how is america? would I get a job? I don't want to clean toilets D: like I studied A LOT in the best universities here e.e I can barely clean my toilet I'm not that good LOL I just know how to work... will I be discriminated D;??? like u can work with that degree or something like that
Help!crying

I'm sorry to hear that you've had some negative experiences in the U.S. previously. Unfortunately, in U.S. culture, there is a lot of discrimination, even against other U.S.-born citizens -- even targeting people from certain regions of the U.S. sad There are lots of forms of discrimination different places; anything "different" than the "norm" in whatever area can be a target. Some places are more liberal and accepting than others.
It depends a lot on the community you are in. What area of the U.S. are you moving to?

Hello,
I am originally from Upstate New York so it is a similar region. With that area, you may get some roughness but people are just rough around the edges towards people. Generally speaking though, alot of people will treat you how you treat them in that region. Alot of us from that region are welcoming to people. As for that area, if you are moving towards the area of NYC, you may find it easy to find a job in Manhattan at hotels. (Front Desk, Night Audit, Housekeeping, server, etc...) Especially ones that may be near the consulate from the country you originated from. Most of them near the United Nations building. If you ever have any questions, feel free to message me. Even though I haven't lived in New Jersey, I can still probably answer questions you may have. smile The hardest part was getting your visa approved. smile My cousin is still trying to get the visa for his wife and her kids from the Philippines approved. They will be moving to Seattle. smile

I cant get a job yet but I hope I can work with kids as a teacher if not I just hope I can use my knowledge. thanks again for the support !!!

While small towns don't always have a lot of diversity, in general NJ is one of the most diverse parts of the country, so even if you have to travel a bit it shouldn't be too hard to find other people from Latin America. I've lived here most my life and there is a large Latin American community near my area, mostly Mexican and Puerto Rican.
That said discrimination is still very much a thing here, and just because there are people from Latin America here that doesn't necessarily mean they will be from the same country as you and share the same culture.
