TV -- Cierret doesn’t really know what to do with himself most of the time. It feels like he should be doing something, but figuring out what that something is feels... taxing. He could take up exercise or some craft or cooking or stargazing or literally any number of things, but why. He’s not sure if he’s interested, and what would anything else do for him? It just doesn’t seem like it’s worth it, somehow? In the absence of anything else to do with himself, Cierret kind of just sits at home with the tv on. Sometimes he’s paying attention, sometimes his mind is wandering. Sometimes he cares what’s on (he likes mystery crime type shows like Law and Order and CSI), and sometimes it’s just background noise, something there to fill the quiet space of home.
Reading -- In terms of things Cierret actually enjoys doing and will consciously spend time on outside of work, reading is one of very few things. Those people, the ones in pretty much any tale, have purpose and direction and a goal. To be honest, he will pick up pretty much any fiction story, because the setting and reasons don’t especially matter to him as much as that feeling of being a part of something that’s happening that reading provides. He likes to try and guess where things end up along the way, with decent success. There aren’t many books where the girl doesn’t get the guy, or where the world is consumed by evil, after all.
Cats -- Cierret was once a volunteer cat foster dad before it accidentally turned into a hoarding situation. He is very aware that he doesn’t need more cats, but as a shelter affiliate, they call him whenever they don’t have the space to take on more animals, and having no spine of his own to refuse, he agrees to care for whatever anyone gives him. Sometimes strangers just abandon their cats at his doorstep, and there isn’t anything for him to do besides just accept it... He’d love to find homes for as many as he can, but he’s not very social, so there aren’t many people for him to reach out to... He spends a lot of his time cleaning litter boxes, making sure every kitty takes whatever meds they need, and caring for the tiniest kittens. It just sure would be great if he could find more forever homes.
Virtues:
Neat -- One might think that living with so many cats would lead to a messy, smelly home, but Cierret is strictly meticulous with his space and belongings. He has a decently spacious home, and the cats are not allowed in all of it. He may clean up after them in their areas, but they are not permitted in his because he wouldn’t be able to tolerate accidents around his personal items. Everything has its place, everything is alphabetized and organized. Everything goes where it is supposed to go: office supplies in a desk, clothes in the closet, books in a shelf, you get the idea. He doesn’t really like miscellaneous items just hanging around where they shouldn’t be.
Cautious -- Cierret is by no means an adventurous sort, and he doesn’t want to be involved in any disruption or trouble. He leaves thirty minutes early for work just “in case” his well-cared-for vehicle has a mishap of some accident causes traffic. If there’s a shady dude walking along the sidewalk to his work, you can sure bet Cierret is going to wait until he passes. He won’t hang out in his car in the parking lot and does not let strangers approach him to ask for spare change or anything of the like. Absolutely will not open the door to his house for someone he doesn’t know. It’s not that Cierret thinks everyone is bad and out to get him, but he’s also not trying to take any chances. There’s nothing wrong with being careful.
Frugal -- Cierret’s whole job is solving people’s money problems and telling them when the ‘ideal’ time is to invest in certain situations, so of course he is very practically-minded with his own money. He doesn’t spend much on things he doesn’t need because that’s wasteful, and he tends to take very good care of the things he does have so as to buy replacements as infrequently as possible. He is by no means poor or hard off, as his job and its benefits are easily able to provide for him, but he doesn’t want to risk falling into hardship from any potential accidents. It is a contributing factor to why he has so few hobbies: hobbies are expensive, especially the one he’s been trapped in, so he doesn’t feel like he can afford to do much else.
Gentle -- Despite having a little bit of a stick up his a** and some somewhat OCD tendencies, Cierret is still a softy beneath all of that. He has a soft, low voice and a delicate touch, with a relatively mild temperament as far as dealing with other living things is concerned. He is good at caring for his baby creatures, and even those who come to him due to financial need are usually reassured by his confidence (and of course he is, because he has very little to lose when dealing with someone else’s money. It’s not like he is personally in any financial distress). When he is in settings he has firm control over, like home and work, he can feel at peace, and he prefers not to disrupt that with any kind of harshness.
Flaws:
Bland -- If anyone had to describe Cierret in one word, it would easily be boring. He doesn’t do very much, doesn’t say very much, doesn’t go out of his way to meet and engage with people. He’s not a bad guy by any means, but he’s also just not really anyone you’d want to hang out with because he doesn’t bring a whole lot to the table. You can talk about cats, and you can talk about work, and that is pretty much the extent of his interests. Cierret is pretty aware of this, but being that he doesn’t often want to go have a beer with anyone, he’s not exactly invested in becoming more interesting.
Introverted -- In the way he obviously doesn’t have anything to share and doesn’t have a reason to, Cierret doesn’t usually talk to people. He is good with communicating with clients at work about their needs and expectations, but he is otherwise not very interested in making small talk and getting to know someone, or letting someone get to know him (there’s not really much to know, is there?). He will outright ignore people to express his disinterest, and he definitely doesn’t feel like he needs more interaction than he currently gets. If he wants to hear people talk about literally anything, he can just turn on the tv. Then he doesn’t have to pretend to be invested in a conversation with someone he doesn’t care about.
Indecisive -- When Cierret knows what he wants, he knows what he wants, and that’s pretty much the only thing he wants. When other factors come into play, or his first option isn’t available, he mentally trips all over himself trying to figure something else out, and will usually just settle for doing nothing. Decided on a new book to check out from the library only to discover it’s not there? Whelp, he probably doesn’t need to read this week, never mind that there are about a trillion books he’s never read. Thought he was going to have Chick-fil-A for lunch, only to remember it’s Sunday? He didn’t need to eat, it’s fine. Never mind that Popeyes and KFC are literally right next to each other, and he could easily have pretty much the same sandwich. Except “pretty much” is not the same, okay. What is he supposed to do, just pick something else? How can he possibly!
Stiff -- He’s not very adaptable. Plain and simple, Cierret is a very straightforward, and only straightforward kind of guy. He doesn’t really know how to relax (especially around other people), and “fun” is not exactly in his wheelhouse. He has an extremely limited number of interests, and those are his only interests. Anything else proposed by anyone else is just not for him. He has a certain way of doing pretty much every task he does and doesn’t appreciate deviating from that. He doesn’t really want your advice or suggestions, and if he decides he needs something to change, he will figure it out himself without needing help from anyone else.
