I think this game is sort of difficult to play. The battle sequence is like Final Fantasy 12 in a way I think. And the characters actually talk on this game which is neat!

I haven't played it and I don't ever plan to, since they only released a part of the entire game itself.

In all fairness, Final Fantasy VII was spread across 4 PS1 discs and the game was much simpler to create back in 1996-1997. Today's standards for graphics, audio quality, controls (the remake isn't a turn-based RPG nor has fixed camera angles), expanded content, voice acting and programming are incredibly higher; and so are the costs of making AA games. It's still a 35-45 hour game (on average), the original was between 37 and 54 hours (also on average). Even though they're very different games, the amount of hours one can reasonably put into them to enjoy them seems pretty similar.
There's also another important issue worth mentioning, but it's considered heavy spoilers so open at your own risk:
It's definitely not the same game. The story of the Remake is a sequel to FFVII set in an alternate timeline. The main antagonist forces are either trying to force it to happen exactly like it did in FFVII, or outright trying to change history for their benefit. Aerith has awareness of the other timeline. So does Sephiroth. In fact, we're not sure if the Sephiroth fought at the end of the game is "regular" Sephiroth or Advent Children's Sephiroth, since there are several references to that movie.
There are shadowy creatures called "Arbiters of Fate" that are essentially an embodiment of forces attempting to preserve a purist idea of what a Final Fantasy VII remake should be, opposing any changes to the events of the original timeline. In short, they're a meta representation of the fanbase. Only by defying them can the Remake be free to tell it's own story, even if reactions to it are very divided.
Also Zack survives his last stand. And Aerith doesn't die!... Yet.
It's a total ********. Some people hate it! Some people find it absolutely bonkers and they love it! But I think it's totally worth it.
It's a visual spectacle, it fleshes out the characters a lot (and reminds people that Cloud and Aerith aren't "gloomy emo kid" and "absolute purity incarnate" respectively) and the music is amazing all the way through. It's definitely not for everyone, but it deserves a chance.

I just started playing and I'm mostly spoiler free on the new stuff added. I have a lot of nostalgia for this game, since It was my first rpg when I was young.
I could've played it on PS4 but my PS4 was kinda old so I waited until we got a PS5
