It can be kind of corny! But it has the whole "teleported to another world" thing going for it.

Personally I like Ritz the best im not sure . i havent played this game yet Hopefully you'll get to play it one day its for game boy advanced and i dont have one of those If you want to give it a shot, there's an emulator app called "My Boy!" for Android that works pretty well (and I suppose there are iOS alternatives as well). There are also a lot of GBA emulators for PC, although I can't remember the name of the one I used when I was younger.
I spent an unhealthy amount of time playing this game as a kid, my parents bought it for me when I was 11-ish and it's still a pretty good game even though it's hilariously easy to break using certain strategies (if you want to check them out, just scroll down to the FFTA folder to see some examples). I was never able to 100% the game due to losing an important item, so last year I started a new playthrough and decided to use some of those strategies to steamroll through the campaign. Gotta admit it feels good to play as an unstoppable war god after all the grief I had to deal with on my GBA copy.
Also I like that the game's plot actually has a lot of mature themes in it that a lot of people didn't notice until it was rereleased a few years ago. Things such as the effects of divorce on children, the stages of grief with the death of a loved one, how disabled kids feel, bullying and the desire to retreat into fantasy as a coping mechanism, etc. Having been 3/4 of those things, I can really relate to the game's characters.
I also liked the sequel, but I never got as heavily involved with it as with this one despite the main character being much more relatable. The main character in this game realizes he's not in his world but on a fantasy one and wants to go back, the main character on the sequel has to be reminded by other characters that he should be going back to his world and he doesn't really want to. rofl

4 years late to this thread but I still want to say that Tactics is in my top 3 for favorite games. It's so nostalgic for me but also just cute and difficult at times. I have lots of great memories from when I was in middle school playing it x) for reference, Im 31 now.

Things I didn't understand as a kid x) whenever I'm stuck in a part, its easy to search up. I do hope I can beat it again :p the ending is crazy
