Quote:
Engineered in a lab by Dr. Esker, Tundra was part of a project that sought to augment humans with alien powers by splicing their DNA. Some of these experiments were conducted on preexisting humans, though there were others that had been born within the facility. Tundra was one such subject. Spliced with the DNA of Esker's assistant Savannah and an icejin, Tundra was among the first to be born as he was, with the idea of him being overall human, but possessing the icejin's aptitude for survival. At birth Tundra was completely human in appearance, though it was still uncertain how his augmented genes would manifest themselves. It was far too early to discern anything, but that was only a part of the process.
However, upon the sudden disappearance of Dr. Esker, lab functions ceased all together and the project went cold. With Tundra already living with Savannah and her husband Fen, life continued normally for the family. Savannah's employment for Esker appeared much different looking from the outside than it was. It was true that Dr. Esker had made benevolent contributions to the field of science, but beneath his more public projects was something far more sinister, and Savannah was more than aware of it. She wasn't initially opposed, thinking that augmenting Earthlings with alien DNA couldn't be all that bad and may help some people, but it gradually became evident that this was not the case. Dr. Esker wanted power. Maybe it was for the best that he disappeared and her new son had a chance at living a normal life. Not too long after, Tundra's brother Veldt was born.
Growing up, Tundra and Veldt were inseparable. As young children, Tundra was described as the shy, well-behaved one, while Veldt was more carefree and playful. Despite being older by about a year, Tundra was always much smaller than Veldt, who took to being a protective, big brother figure to him. Tundra's small size often made him a target to would-be bullies, but not if Veldt had anything to say about it.
Going into their teenage years, Veldt began to vastly surpass Tundra in both height and strength, eventually towering over him. The two, despite their vast differences in both appearance and personality, were rarely seen without the other close by. Unfortunately, their close relationship wouldn't last forever. While his brother began to grow into a charming young man, something else happened to Tundra. At about 13, his body began to undergo go changes—and not in the way he was told it would. From there, it only became worse, until it was obvious that Tundra wasn't entirely human, if at all anymore—but not only had his appearance changed, but his personality as well. The once timid, thoughtful young boy he gradually began to shift into something more selfish and cruel.
This disparity began to cause a rift between him and his brother, who boasted a strong moral code. Veldt began to chide Tundra for his increasingly impulsive and self-interested behavior, leading to resentment on Tundra's end. Despite denying and pushing back against his brother's accusations, Tundra knew that something was changing inside, and it scared him. After coming to his mother for reassurance and advise, she told him the truth about his origin. She didn't know much about the icejin, other than that they didn't have the greatest reputation, but that didn't matter because Tundra was good. But was he, truly? Doing the right thing began to feel more and more like a conscious effort that his brother Veldt seemed to have no problem navigating. He couldn't help but begin to feel pangs of jealousy towards Veldt and the strong, respectable man he was becoming. It wasn't fair...
After learning the truth, Tundra didn't take it too well. Frightened and angered, he ran away from home for about a week before returning. This was something he would continue to do throughout his teens as a means of getting attention and sympathy. Tundra also continued to grow more and more jealous of Veldt and began trying to one-up everything he did to prove himself superior. Everything became a competition, no matter how small it was. Though Veldt found it funny at first, it quickly became tiresome; it wasn't that he really cared that Tundra out-did him from time-to-time, but it only served to further increase the rift between them. Whenever Tundra lost, he sulked, and whenever he won, he gloated.
[Tundra ruins Veldt's life]
However, after his latest disappearing act, he was gone for a little longer than usual following a nasty altercation between him and Veldt. In secret, he had gotten word of the return of some scientist—and from the sound of it, possibly the one his mother had told him about. Eventually making contact, Tundra told them he knew of a "willing" subject he could introduce to them. Upon returning home, Tundra apologized to Veldt and proposed they go do something fun together, for old time sake. There was a place he wanted to show him...
This would be good for both of them, Tundra convinced himself. Not only would he be "helping" Veldt get stronger, but it would potentially make things more fair in his eyes. If there was someone else like him, maybe he would feel like less of a freak.
After their "trip," there was no sign of Veldt for the first few days. However, upon his return home, but he seemed like an entirely different person. The once kind, resolute man was now voracious and prone to sudden, violent outbursts. Nobody besides Tundra knew what had happened to Veldt, and soon their reputations seemingly swapped. Now in comparison, Tundra was the kinder of the brothers, while friends and family alike began to fear Veldt. As his personality continued to worsen, his appearance did as well; his skin began to turn a soft pink and his eyes went red, until it seemed the new DNA had completely taken over. What had they done to him? This wasn't what he thought would happen...
Angered by what he had become and Tundra's hand in it, the brothers began to ruthlessly fight, reducing their family home to shambles. Nearly facing total defeat, Tundra awaited the final blow, only for Veldt to hesitate before flying off into the night, leaving the family alive.
That was the last he had ever seen of Veldt. To this day, Tundra never told anyone what really happened and why Veldt suddenly changed the way he did. His plan went a little further than expected, and though he got his way in the end, Tundra couldn't help but feel a little guilty; he ruined his brother's life out of jealousy and there was no going back.

Tundra's head is slight too big for his body and he's self-conscious about it.
Based on the rate his appearance has been changing, he will likely appear as a full icejin by the time he's in his mid to late 20s.
