Her sister isn't tho, as far as she knows. Or maybe she was just too young to get gud yet. There is at most a 13 year difference between them, making Mandy about 16.
I imagine Rebekah only really has her sister and has been through a lot with her. I'm thinking they either went through foster care together, or something happened to their parents that left Beks to take care of her sister.
Uggghh, I don't wanna do dead parents. So, maybe the two lived with their living parents. Everything was fine. Whatever.
But maybe Mandy, who is about 16, lives with Beks, whose an adult.
Maybe Mandy doesn't get along with her parents, but that's her problem.
Or maybe they were too old. If Beks parents had her at 30, then they'd be about 60, and if Mandy is 16, then they would have been 43 when they had her. So, Mandy was a late oopsie baby and mostly stays with her sister.
But then, Mandy was struck with a horrible illness! Probably cancer.
Things weren't looking good. Desperate, Beks began to seek supernatural remedies. She didn't want to make a deal with a demon, so instead she began to look into binding magic. A natural witch who used only natural methods of magic, this was different for her. She did so without her parents knowing, since they would disapprove. So, Beks managed to trap and bind a reaper, whose powers she used to heal Mandy and keep her from dying.
Since Mandy's illness would frequently return, Beks kept the reaper bound. This lasted for about 2 years before her symptoms seemed to disappear completely. In that amount of time, Beks and the reaper formed an unlikely friendship. With no name, Beks claimed the reaper, in its human visage, looked like a "Felix" and eventually tagged on the last name "Dye" like "die" cause reaper. Felix was an odd creature with no concept of humanity, yet it seemed genuinely interested in human life. After a while, Felix almost felt like a part of their family. Beks and Felix became inseparable, but it wasn't like Felix had anywhere to go. She promised him that once her sister's cancer didn't appear to come back, then she would free him.
After a year of no cancer, the time came for Beks to free Felix. She did so, and Felix still seemed interested in hanging around. However, something would soon after happen that Rebekah didn't expect.
Returning home one day, Beks found her sister dead, with Felix nearby. He immediately explained what he had done. As she had been marked for death, he had to take her, and what Beks had done tampered with the Natural Order. Mandy was supposed to die, and she would have been dead without his assistance anyway, and now he felt he had to correct this now that he had his will back. Betrayed and angry, Rebekah demanded the reaper leave as she threw a book at his head, causing him to vanish.
