Appearance: Rian is of average height and somewhat slender build, with long, slim fingers and a fairly modest bust. With a fair skin-tone and blue eyes that sometimes have a greenish cast to them set in a face that leans toward heart-shaped, her features are rather pretty, but her pale blonde hair is just wavy enough to refuse to adhere to any kind of order and looks perpetually messy and fluffed out around her head, and even if she bothers to tie back the shoulder-length mess, it inevitably slips free of its bindings and looks like she slept on it before the end of the day. She also has a tendency to sunburn, which more often than not leaves her peeling.
Personality:

Helpful - One of Rian’s greatest desires is to be useful. To who, she isn’t particularly picky – as long as she feels like she’s being productive and an asset, she is more than willing to help anyone with whatever it seems like they’re having trouble with, be it studies or duties. This willingness to help comes with no strings attached – Rian helps others for the sake of helping others, and expects no payment in return. (This does not mean, however, that she won’t accept it if it’s offered; particularly if it comes in the form of sweets.)

Friendly - With some people, there’s only a few people they can get along with, or even a specific personality type or two. Not so Rian, who simply loves people to the point that she doesn’t believe there’s someone out there she would be unable to get along with. She’s put off by neither sourpuss nor shyness, and is willing to befriend anyone as long as they give her the chance.

Compassionate - Something of a bleeding heart, Rian simply cannot pass by someone in distress, whether she knows them or not. Sometimes the hurting need cheering up, and sometimes they just need someone to sit and listen to them as they went their feelings – Rian can get mixed up between which is needed for what scenario, but she won’t give up until she’s managed to soothe whatever ache she’s found. If nothing else, her sheer determination to cheer up the person can often ease a smile out of them, which is enough for her.

Naive - Rian views the world through rose-colored glasses: people are basically good at heart, most things are well-intentioned, and the worst pains can be eased if only someone would take the time to comfort the wounded. This is, of course, not a worldview that holds much weight at all against the backdrop of harsh reality, but Rian persists in this belief and as such can be very easily led astray. Her willingness to believe the best of people can and has led to her forgiving treatment that others would find intolerable, and acts like bullying leave her flat-out bewildered: why, after all, would anyone deliberately hurt somebody else?

Passive - Some people are go-getters, and others just let things happen to them. Rian is one of the latter; while she’ll certainly move mountains for someone else, when it comes to her own dreams and ambitions, she tends to fall a little flat. As someone who puts most of her desire into taking care of others, she just doesn’t have much left over to put into herself. This means that she’s never likely to win anything or excel in any particular area, and she does not tend to seize opportunities that come her way unless they are very obvious and she can just walk into them. It isn’t laziness, but rather a lackadaisical approach to life, and she needs an outside push to move her forward for her own sake, and not someone else’s.

People-pleaser - The downside to Rian’s helpful, friendly nature: She’s annoying! A naive, chatty person who is constantly offering to help or do things with or for someone can be obnoxious. While Rian is social and friendly, her eagerness to make friends and please others can instead drive them away, and since she’s oblivious to this aspect of her behavior, she doesn’t attempt to tone it down or change it. Instead, she carries on and is left wondering why people no longer want to accept her help or her time. The other downside to this trait is that her eagerness to help is very, very easily abused. And in the hands of a skilled manipulator? Rhian would merrily burn the world to the ground if she was led to believe that it would actually be helpful.

History:

Born out of flightlust in the year 167, Rian grew up in the créche. She did meet and interact with her parents, but found herself particularly attached to neither beyond a sort of grown-up friendship; she preferred the company of her caretakers and créchemates, though she certainly enjoyed the rare interactions with her parents when they happened. She had a content and uneventful childhood, where the worst thing that happened to her as a weyrbrat was getting caught up in others’ mischief. That is, of course, until the plague began to strike down dragon after dragon. She wasn’t yet old enough to Stand, not then, but even so the weight of so many dragons dying struck her just as it did everyone else.

Neither of her parents’ dragons survived the plague, and when they went so too did their riders. It wasn’t unexpected, especially given how many others had done the same thing, and Rian held no anger in her heart for the parents she only knew through brief encounters and the odd present. No, instead she resolved not to let such things bog her down --- in such a hopeless situation as this, if you let the hurt take you over then you would never get through it. And so she resolved never to let such things overwhelm her, and instead do what she could to ease that pain in others.

Once she was old enough, she entered her Candidacy and despite the frankly terrible state of things, tried to hold onto hope --- she tries to even now, doing her best to work hard as a candidate until she’s lucky enough to Impress, despite Standing a few times now with no result. (She doesn’t yet worry overmuch about not Impressing, but has thought offhandedly about working in the créche should she end up aging out. In the meantime, she’ll keep Standing, and hold onto the hope that things will begin to get better.)
