Age: 14 (10.7.169)
Gender: Male
Origin: Telgar Weyr
Rank: Weyrling
Appearance: S'lvar is a prime example of a teenage boy that has a lot of growing left to do. Within the past year or so he's shot up to 5'3'' and he's not especially fond of it. Usually he can be seen slouching or hunching into himself in an effort to appear less noticeable. Given his young age it's likely that he'll keep growing and he's not very fond of that idea either, even though it is unlikely that he'll end up being remarkably tall. It seems that his body has decided to put all possible resources into his height, completely ignoring the idea of muscle development. Leaving the teenager looking scrawny and stretched out. He tends to favour looser clothing, if only so that his skinny physique isn't as noticeable.
The young man isn't anything especially remarkable to look at. Dark blue eyes are often obscured by dark hair. S'lvar's hair is a deep brown, which could be mistaken for black in certain lights. It has a distinct wave to it, which is only more noticeable as he has let it grow out. The young man often uses his hair as a cover, tilting his head down and looking out at people through it to avoid direct eye contact. His face is at the awkward stage between child and adult, as cheekbones and a stronger jaw start to take shape and erase the pudgy, wide-eyed, look of childhood.
Personality: "Shy and retiring, Selvaron is looking desperately for his place in the world but struggles to find the confidence to chase after opportunities. He seeks approval from the adults in his life first and foremost and tends to try too hard to please them; when he fails to please them he’s devastated. He is an imaginative lad and a very intuitive one too, making him both a great storyteller and a wonderful listening ear. Here again however he tends to give too much of himself as he drifts after other people as he tries to find his passion in life - it is his hope that a dragon will come to him with that ready made in their mind so that he doesn’t have to make a bold step of his own volition.
He is close to but very different from his twin sister, she stands up for him when he’s being pushed around and he listens to her and comforts her when she struggles with her emotions." - Written by TawnyAngel for adoptable character.
S'lvar is a quiet sort. For the most part he appears content to go with the flow, but often the young man finds himself unhappy and unable to speak up about it. He shies away from any sort of conflict or anything that would make him appear 'difficult' in the eyes of others. These often leaves him as a follower to more assertive parties, even if he doesn't agree with the action they're carrying out.
As is common in teenagers, S'lvar is desperate to be liked by most everyone. Often overshadowed by his more boisterous sister, S'lvar's accomplishments as a child were often missed in the commotion. This has left him with the idea that nothing he does is good enough, unless it is worth being noticed. People don't acknowledge his work because it isn't good enough, there can't be another reason. The young man will push himself and hold himself to often impossible standards, crushed when inevitably he fails. Even when people do congratulate him, he can only see it as out of pity. They just want him to feel better about how much of a failure he really is.
The literacy that comes with being a Weyrbrat has served S'lvar well in his life. He enjoys reading a tale more than being told it by a harper. Often creche workers would find him curled up in a corner during storytime with some archive text, preferring to quietly digest the history alone. S'lvar finds the actions of people in history far more fascinating than the epic and obviously fabricated tales that so many harpers seem fond of. There are so many remarkable individuals outside the traditional ballads, it seems a shame they don't get there own stories.
History:
169 - Born to Cor’var of green Meloth and a skilled cook named Elorla, the result of a fling that then led into a lasting friendship between the pair. Both parents took an interest in Selvaron and his twin sister Varella, as did his paternal grandfather S’var. Selvaron never stood out much as a child, his twin was a lot louder than he was and he was content to follow in her wake. As he’s grew older he’s started to long for his own path, his own passion, but he hadn’t yet plucked up the courage or initiative to chase after it. A rather bookish child, Selvaron took a great interest in more quiet pursuits, regularly spending his time reading records from the Weyr archives. Even if the records were written in an unbiased and factual manner, it was still easy for Selvaron to become attached to these long departed individuals, retelling their stories to his family when given the chance.
176 - A’gor of Bronze Layalth become Weyrleader of Telgar. Longstanding friction between S’var and the much younger bronzerider culminated in the brownrider’s demotion, framed as honourable retirement, and a swift transfer to Monaco Bay Weyr where he couldn’t cause A’gor any headaches. S’var wrote often to his family and visited whenever he could, but his presence was missed, especially by the young Selvaron. He had always enjoyed his grandfather's steadying presence. Whenever the young boy had grown nervous about his more quiet nature, or concerned that the other children didn't understand his interests, the brownrider had been there to discuss stories and the things that Selvaron held dear. The loss was hard on the at the time seven turn old, but he made a point to regularly write, usually about nothing interesting, but it was important to the boy. It likely because of this that Selvaron is the confident writer that he is today. S'var's visits were always a source of great excitement in Selvaron's life.
178 - The plague began in the autumn. Selvaron tried to shut it all out. It would pass. Bad things happened, but everything would be alright in the end.
179 - Meloth succumbed to the plague and Cor’var followed her between a couple of months later along with Va’li. Selvaron was devastated. Loosing his father and then later his aunt, with his Grandfather incapable of being with him. The young boy began to withdraw from new people, clinging tighter to those that he already had. Selvaron didn't want to need people. They kept leaving him, everybody kept leaving him. The already shy youngster became even more evasive of others. It was only the intervention of his mother and other family that stopped Selvaron from completely shutting out the rest of the world. Elorla was adamant that this plague would not destroy her son the way she had watched it destroy so many riders. There was no shielding him from it, but she could promise that the plague would not take her or his siblings from him. That his grandfather was safe in the South. They would make it through this, together. Who Selvaron would have become without the rock that his mother became for those turns is a mystery, but it isn't a pleasant alternative.
181 - Along with the surviving riders, the cousin and three partial siblings moved to Fort. The twins' mother Elorla also made the journey. Selvaron stood for Malsalth’s final clutch as his first alongside his twin. At the tender age of 12 he was terrified. Not only of losing his dragon should he impress, but also that a dragon would claim one of his family and then take them away if they got sick. He was almost relieved when none of them impressed, a sentiment he didn't share with his siblings for fear they wouldn't approve. He carefully watched as Malsalth's children grew up, none of them succumbing to the plague. As they grew strong and the greens successfully clutched, something akin to hope flickered inside Selvaron. Was it over? Could it finally be over?
183 - S'var comes North with the entourage and Selvaron is so elated he cries. For once someone actually came back. It took some time for the threat that his grandfather had put him in by coming North to set in. The teen so wanted to believe that the plague had died with Malsalth, but those around him were confident that wasn't the case. That Julith's clutch and the entourage dragon's would sicken soon. Fear began to grow in Selvaron for Nemanath, and he would regularly stare at the brown as though he would be able to pick up something that nobody else would. Maybe raise some early alarm that would save the dragon if anything happened.
There wasn't much time for him to decide if he would stand for Julith's clutch. The eggs not being immune frightened him, taking him back to Malsalth's clutch. What if they took his siblings? Still there was a new variable this time. His grandfather and his dragon had taken this risk to get back to them, to bring these eggs here. How could Selvaron turn away the eggs they had thought worth risking their lives for? Full of nerves the teen stood for the clutch, trying to prepare himself should one of his family be chosen. He had not been prepared for a blue hatchling to seek him out at the very end of the hatching and all but collapse into his arms.

Dragon
Name: Recareth
Age: <1 turn
Colour: Blue
Size: 2 months: 11'6'' long, 4'1'' at the shoulder
Appearance: Tall, average to lean build
Personality: "Protective, Brave, Level-headed, Dependable, Self-sacrificing"
Positive: Protective, Brave, Level-headed, Dependable
Negative: Self-sacrificing, Unforgiving, Insular, Inflexible
Recareth is a protective dragon first and foremost. He has a group of people important to him, who he will go to the ends of Pern to defend. Yet even outside of this group he cannot abide what he sees as injustice. He doesn't need to know a person to know what is happening to them is wrong, and it won't be uncommon for him to collect people throughout his life by inserting himself into their hardships in an attempt to defend them, and then deciding that he can't very well just go and leave them now.
This blue can and will exhaust himself in the service of others. It doesn't matter how drained he may be, it his duty, and he must do his duty. If he collapses whilst carrying out his duty, then that is just the way things were meant to be. How can he rest when those he cares about may not be safe?
At times Recareth can be overly serious. There is the ability for him to actually let loose and have fun, but the dragon will regularly convince himself that he shouldn't do that. He's supposed to be a role-model. In his mind that means being serious all the time. That's what people want to see from their protector, not someone being silly and messing around. Still with some persistent coaxing this blue can usually be draw into a game or two. Just be ready for him to become very embarrassed afterwards at his undignified behaviour. What will people think.
Other: Sustained multiple injuries during his hatching while fighting with Hivapath. All injures are expected to heal, but may leave scars.
Attempted to guard his sister Azelth from interference when she was trying to impress.
Insisted on staying on the sands until all his siblings had impressed safely.
