Appearance

At 5'6” tall, Gabri appears petite and fragile but she has excellent endurance from a deep chest and long hours of practice, plus an abundance of energy left in reserve.

Her wide eyes are a light brown color, like rum. Her eyebrows and long eyelashes are about two shades lighter than her hair, tending toward pale blond. Light sandy-brown in color, her hair is soft and fine, thick, and straight. It is extremely short at the base of her neck, mushrooming slightly to curve up over the top of her head. The fringe of bangs falls about 3/4 of the way down her forehead. Gabri’s face is heart-shaped with a small rounded chin and snub nose.

Despite her long days in the sun, her complexion remains light, the only proof that she loves the water being her many freckles which cover mostly her face but also her arms and shoulders. They seem to bleed together as the summer months wear on. From a distance she may appear to have an attractive tan, but closer inspection reveals the truth and her self-consciousness.

Fashion

Gabri enjoys wearing sleeveless tops and cuffed shorts, preferring their freedom in the heat of the hotter months. When it gets cooler, she tends to wear shorts as long as she can, and wears a trench coat over them to protect her body from the wind. At Fort, her favorite clothing materials are moot; but she favors leather in tans, browns, and blues. She is not acclimated to Fort, and found Igen to be more her cup of klah.

A wicked-looking diving knife strapped to her belt is carried at all times, barring formal occasions, when it is presumably strapped to her calf. Its strong, half-serrated blade can be used to stab, cut, saw, and pry, which makes it an excellent utility tool.

Gabriephine has a strong determination about her that was what pushed her forward in her craft of choice. A natural love of and talent for swimming aided in her training, but the physical drain of competition and sense of isolation in a crowd taxed her hard-won reserves. Self-doubt and self-consciousness can easily discourage her, and as a teenager has become keenly aware of the limitations of her appearance.

She has a moral but practical side to her. For example, though she carries it practically everywhere, she will never use her diving knife to threaten others or as a symbol of power. However, she has used it to protect herself from predators.

Selfish, she has a tendency to take on a "me versus the world" mentality when events do not go her way, or how she envisioned them. This has made personal emotional growth very limited, while her physical skills have progressed admirably. Hopefully the life of a rider will balance her more readily.

Gabriephine grew up in a fishing cothold reachable only by boat called Sandy Reef. Located on an island near the [name?] Dolphineering Hall, the homestead was isolated but mostly self-sufficient. Her family members are all either fishermen (the men) or keep watch and manage the cot itself (the women). Gabri learned to swim at a very young age like all of her siblings, but instead of her other studies she could be found outside watching for dolphins. Early on it became clear to her parents that whether or not she could make it as a dolphineer, the young and headstrong Gabriephine might be best-suited to working in some capacity at the DolphinCraftHall.

Gabriephine had never developed good people-skills like most children do. Her interactions were primarily with her mother and elder sister because her father and brothers were always out fishing or at market selling their goods. Later at the crafthall, she became a loner. Interacting with the dolphins and her instructors almost exclusively, she was labeled as a "teacher’s pet," too good to interact with the other apprentices. A great deal of the stress and heartache suffered during those times was because she simply did not try to make a friend and keep one. That could have been because she never felt the equal of her peers. But, too, she often spent her free time sitting on the docks staring out to sea, or perfecting her skills with the diving knife at her belt. Not very approachable.

The misunderstandings continued and escalated until, finally at the age of 16, Gabriephine found herself nose-to-nose with a beautifully-colored blue dragon. His rider and a boy about Gabri’s age smiled down at her with sincerely friendly smiles. No one else at the DolphinHall was Searched that day, leaving some muttering "good riddance," while some others grumbled that the teacher’s pet had done it again. Still others felt sorry for the Weyr, and yet another group wondered what was on the menu for supper that day. (It was fish.)

Hatchling size at hatching was 7'2" long nose to tail tip, and 2'4" high at the shoulder. Later at adulthood, he will reach ______. His build is and will ever be only average, making him a pretty average but consistent flyer.

Blue Locomoth is a vocal dragon. When he speaks to you he will whistle, warble, or twitter. A cheerful morning person, he awakens "bright-eyed and bushy-tailed." He is always ready.

Locomoth cares for all of those around him, human and dragon alike. He likes to greet others, and does so with confidence and friendliness. If someone has a problem or needs help, he will offer his assistance or find someone who can! Likewise, he will look for the best solution and meticulously ensure that it is done correctly. As the saying goes, If something is worth doing, it's worth doing right.

He will also discover a love for travel and discovering new places and people. Culture is something that fascinates him, even if he can't with his busy schedule devote the time to learning all about them. This said, he may push Gabri to become known for carrying messages and the like more so than other riders.

Background

On Locomoth's hatching day, he was determined to meet every Candidate and do something to make this their best hatching ever. He learned an important lesson from a Candidate named Joisann that part of trusting others was allowing them to sort their problems out for themselves. Shahaeran wanted to hear a dragon sing. He did not get to sing for her, but it is something he has determined to learn to do, someday. Finally, when it was time to make this his best hatching ever, he met Gabriephine.

There hadn't been any choice after that, and Strawberry Tart had promptly sauntered over to the candidate, nuzzling and whistling happily at his newfound companion.

Like all of his siblings, Locomoth runs a risk of developing the plague. His Plague Risk Level is 5. In the future Locomoth will want to keep in contact with his siblings. He will be especially distraught if/when he loses a sibling and will need Gabriephine's determination and stubbornness to get him through the grief.
