Hi Everyone!
I'm always up for good book suggestions and I think that you can really get to know a lot about a person from their favorite books! Lately, I've only been reading books for school... and its pretty dreadful so I'd love to know what has grabbed your interests!

Books!!! emotion_kirakira This is definitely a thread for me! I know that would probably enjoy this thread as well! She makes some really good suggestions.
Lately I've been mainly trying to catch up on unfinished series. So right now I'm reading Burning for Revenge by John Marsden, it's book 5 in his Tomorrow series. Which is about a group f teens who go on a camping trip only to end up in like a guerrilla type war in their fictional hometown in Australia. If you've ever seen or heard of the Patrick Swayze movie Red Dawn, it's sorta similar to that. I'm a big fan of the movie so when I came across this series (which also has a movie adaption) I was sold.
I'm also reading Outpost by Ann Aguirre, it's book 2 in her Razorland series. It's basically a zombie post-apocalyptic type series. But it doesn't have too much gore etc. in it. It mostly follows a girl who has lived her whole live in a community in the sewers and after a mishap/misunderstanding she is forced out of the community and goes topside to find her place in the world etc.
One thing I find really funny in the books is the name of the characters, they don't have normal names..like the main character's name starts out as Deuce..Although she later re-names herself to Dove.

What sorts of shows, movies and books do you enjoy? Are you a horror, anime, sci fi, fantasy, mystery, slice of life, drama or romance fan? Do you like surreal stuff? Stuff about people living in other times or cultures? All this will help me suggest books you may really love. I used to own a bookstore and did this for others for over 10 years.

Red Dawn was a good movie! I watched the Patrick Swayze one years ago and I remember really liking it but I haven't seen the newer version. I'm not normally a big fan of the post-apocalyptic theme in books but I love true stories of people who survived wars or other seemingly impossible situations. I actually just finished 'The Desert and the Sea' by Michael Scott Moore, he is a reporter who was held captive by Somali pirates for almost 3 years! It was a rather sobering story that makes you realize just how terribly things can go while you are feeling your best.

I don't have favorite books so much as authors. In Sci Fi/fantasy it's Julie Cznereda, Gail Carringer, Gini Koch, Jack McDevitt and James SA Corey atm. In historical novels, it's Niada West and James Herriot. In mysteries, it's Dana Stabenow (I love her books in any genre) and Marcia Muller. I actually follow hundreds of authors in many genres but those are the ones that pop into my head right now. I'm not much of a fan of horror, gothic, romance, war or westerns. Or True Crime.

Ah see, I think you would probably really like this series, it reminds me a lot of that movie. I did see the new version back when it had come out, it was pretty good, not a big copy cat of the original version but it had similarities to it as well. I kinda prefer the original version tbh.
Post-apocalyptic/dystopia theme books are actually one of my favorite genres to read lol. It's about as close to the sy-fy genre as I get, even though I will go ahead and read a actual sy-fy book if it sounds interesting etc. I don't read a lot of non-fiction books, I've read a few interesting ones..but it's not something that I read a lot.
