K'ndayo and Blue Audrath
Formerly: EkundayoAge: 29
Gender: Male
Sexual Orientation: Homosexual
Origin: Shellshoal Hold, of Paradise River Hold, of Monaco Bay Weyr
Craft/Rank: FisherCraft, Journeyman: Fishing, freshwater; Wingrider
Weyrmate: En'il of Blue Rajnisth
Description:
K'ndayo is a fisherman at heart. He can't be bothered with things like hair style (it's cropped short), clothing style (Pockets. He likes pockets. So what if he's wearing red.), or how pretty his hazel-brown eyes are. His mustache is clipped the way it grows and he can't be bothered with much else. Yes that is a whatever-the-clock shadow, it just grows that fast. So what if he looks grumpy all the time. Yes coffee probably makes him look a little more pleasant. But he mumbles and curses under his breath sometimes anyway. Sometimes he forgets to take his riding gear off, especially the goggles. Don't tell anyone, especially K'ndayo, but En'il thinks it's cute.
Personality:
Positive traits: Earnest, Honorable, Dutiful
Negative traits: Grumpy, Selfish, Lazy
K'ndayo has never been called a people person in his life. He prefers the solitude of fishing. He rarely starts a conversation, only speaking as much as he has to when spoken to. That said, he has always attracted listeners and elder people, perhaps as if he he'd have more wisdom than other young adults. Well he doesn't, or doesn't think so anyway. Look at someone else, please.
He has a quiet and awkward way of showing his earnestness about a situation or person. This was why he had so much trouble courting En'il. He did not know how to talk to such a carefree and likeable person. All he knew was that he loved the man and had to push himself to make himself and his feelings known. He has similar trouble with others and sometimes has to demonstrate through his actions alone.
He is very serious about being a dragonrider. Audrath showed him a much more important life than his fishing and he has never looked back. That said, he still loves to go fishing when he has nothing else he needs to do. It's just so quiet and relaxing.
History:
Formerly Ekundayo, he grew up as a freshwater fisherman, mainly sticking to the river waters. His family's small hold is called Shellshoal, and is located along the banks of the Paradise River, near Monaco Bay Weyr. It should come as no surprise that when he was Searched, he later Impressed at Monaco Bay.
Sometime after Impression, he met En'il and it was love at first sight. The way K'ndayo is, how he acts, and his usual motives, all seemed at war with his true intentions. So it took time and a lot of effort on his part, to convince En'il that his love was true, but eventually he won his heart.
A nine out of ten chance of his dragon contracting and dying from the plague is not a number he has taken lightly. But now that his weyrmate is stuck in the North, he has decided that he would rather chance almost certain death than to live without him. K'ndayo knows the risk, but it is better than absolutely no chance that he will see his weyrmate again. Even if it's just for a short time, with illness that leads to death, it's still better than "never again."
His greatest mistake was in deciding at the last minute that he would not see En'il until he knew for sure Audrath would sicken from the plague. At first, he started a journal full of letters addressed to his weyrmate. But now that Audrath has contracted the disease, he is kicking himself for wasting so much time away from En'il. He intends to go between with his dragon, but En'il may have other plans...
His name Ekundayo is Yoruba for "sorrow becomes joy." (behindthename.com) I chose this for him because he is such a gloomy character that both his dragon and his weyrmate brought joy into his life.
Dragon
Name: Audrath
Age: 10
Colour: Blue
Description:
The name Audrath comes from the given name Audra, Lithuanian, and meaning "storm." (BehindtheName) I chose this because his first incarnation was a stormy blue color. Kind of steely blue-grey.
He's a smallish Blue with a stout trunk and short legs. He has a way of twisting through the air to give him extra speed and maneuverability. His stamina is average for his size, if a little low for his color.
Personality:
Positive traits: Motivational, Generous, Logical
Negative traits: Sardonic, Gluttonous, Impractical
Background:
Audrath Impressed to Ekundayo in his 19th Turn. At the time, the young fisherman felt at odds with his surroundings, and a little old to start the Candidate life. Audrath changed that for him. The Blue was very positive and could always talk K'ndayo into doing (good) things he might not otherwise feel inclined or confident to do.
Why he encouraged K'ndayo to accompany M'rio and Julith North is anyone's guess. Why would anyone encourage such a selfish task that could see his dragon die? That's just how Audrath is. He probably laid out the entire situation logically and convinced K'ndayo that it was a good idea all around. He may even have given K'ndayo the idea in the first place.
