Do you have a great idea for a character but no time to play them yourself? Are you looking for somebody to play your character's parent, sibling, best friend? If so this is for you! Using a slightly tweaked version of our usual profile form you can create all standard character types and post them here in this thread for people to peruse and potentially take on as their own. You can make a rider and leave the adopter to imagine their dragon (haha), vice versa, create a complete pair, make a non rider... you get the idea!
If you want to claim one of the characters in this thread just post to say so and then head over to the profiles forum to get them approved as usual on the standard profile form, but linking back to this thread and crediting the author. When you post requesting an adoptable you will have a 3 week window to get their full profile posted for approval, if you don't manage it in this timeframe your claim on them will be removed and somebody else can request them, but you're still free to keep working on them.
The major rules are: 1) Once adopted the character belongs to its player unless they and the writer specifically agree otherwise at the time of creation, and post here stating any terms they have. Character connections can only be carried forward to another setting with your express permission, but beyond that the player is free to use the concept as they see fit - again unless agreed otherwise here. 2) If you adopt a character you must always credit the original writer if you take them elsewhere.
As a special bonus for creating compelling characters we will give you some bonus marks if a character you post here is adopted: 25 when the profile is approved by staff in the character profiles forum, and another 25 when the adopted character makes their first IC post.

Appearance: Quite tall, suggest a strong build but your choice on this. Curly black hair, brown or hazel eyes, and light brown to olive skintone. Brilliant smile. Personality: * Passionate, makes her very driven but also rash at times. * Ambitious. She lost her mother and saw death all around her so she knows how short life is, how quickly it can be taken away - she wants to make something of herself, to at least equal but preferably exceed her father's rank! This is partially friendly competition, partially to make him proud, and partially just for herself. * Impatient, she tends to want everything to happen now, delays and setbacks frustrate and upset her by turns. After a major knockback in something she was trying to achieve, or if it's stalled for a long time, she needs a chance to step back and have a hug or to talk it out before she can attempt it again. * Gregarious, she loves being around other people, thrives in a crowd, and makes friends easily. * Loyal and dutiful, a lot like her father in this. What is she loyal to though, most of all? Perhaps she already knows, or perhaps she will discover this as she grows up.

In this turn V'lon was promoted to wingsecond. 167 - 178 - (She) had a happy childhood on the whole, she wasn't one of the most popular kids in the creche (unless you'd like her to be!) but she did have a wide circle of friends and daily contact with her loving parents. 179 - But then the plague began, Tiauth succumbed to the sickness and R'ia asked to be taken between not long after. There was nothing V'lon could do to fill the void in (her) life that her mother had left but he did his best to be there even though he didn't often know what to say or do other than hug. 181 - For the first time, (she) was old enough to stand for a clutch, having missed out on Senior Gold Welsanth and Bronze Kuzrath's by (depends on her DOB, clutch was month 3). (Whether or not she stood for Masalth's clutch is up to adopter, V'lon would have been very reluctant for her to do so but ultimately it would have been her choice and he would have supported her.) 182 - (The first green clutches, with the health of the mothers clear V'lon would have been delighted for her to stand for these).

Appearance: Up to you! He wears small round spectacles when he reads, he doesn’t need them but he thinks they make him look more intelligent. He especially enjoys looking at people over the rims.
Personality: A cerebral, rather haughty young man - he tends to think that being academically smarter than many people makes him better than they are, and also tends to think that he knows better than his elders about just about everything. He’s slightly socially inept, and a bit of a fork-head as so many young men are. Nevertheless he’s a basically good person who is usually willing to lend a hand where needed, though he would much rather to mental work than physical. He doesn’t have a huge number of friends and highly values those he does have. He sees himself as a future leader but on his own his poor social skills are likely to hold him back.
He loves to read, and secretly loves to read really trashy romance - if anyone ever found out he would be mortified. One day he hopes to find true love, and his very own dragon too of course. He vaguely hopes to Impress a brown like his mother and grandfather before him but he would be open to anything.
Losing his mother and uncle after the death of their dragons rattled him badly, and he refused to stand for Julith’s clutch - in his opinion it was utterly stupid to do so, and he chastised his cousins for putting themselves forward.

His parents were both quite heavily involved in his life, as far as their duties permitted, as was his maternal grandfather S’var. He was a bright boy from the word go, but not always the most tactful. 175 - When many weyrbrats begin to stand as candidates Vasilir elected to take up study with the lorekeepers for some time, reasoning that if his dragon was on the Sands they’d find him anyway. 176 - A’gor of Bronze Layalth become Weyrleader of Telgar. Longstanding friction between S’var and the much younger bronzerider culminated in the brownrider’s demotion, framed as honorable retirement, and a swift transfer to Monaco Bay Weyr where he couldn’t cause A’gor any headaches. Vasilir was immediately Worried. 179 - Courath succumbed to the plague and Va’li followed him between a couple of months later along with Cor’var. 181 - Along with the surviving riders, the cousin and three partial siblings moved to Fort. Liraul also made the move and remained close to his son. 182 - Vasilir finally became a candidate and stood for Lithustoth’s first clutch. 183 - Vasilir most did not stand for Julith’s clutch, and thought it foolish of his cousins to take the risk.

Appearance: Up to you! By all literary justice her teeth ought to sparkle when she grins, and whether she’s classically attractive or not there’s something undeniably magnetic about her presence.
Personality: A go-getting, charismatic, thrill-seeker with a zest for life so strong it’s amazing her body actually stays on the ground. If there’s someplace new to go or something new to try she will be right up in it, and even if she hates it when she actually experiences it she’ll be glad she did it. Under the wild laughter and inadvisable stunts lies a young woman who is confident and centered like the eye of the storm; bad things happen in life, sometimes really bad, and she’ll cry and grieve but then she’ll dust herself off and go on as brightly as she did before. Life is too wonderful to spend it thinking about what’s gone, and the best way to remember those who’ve died is to live a life they’d agree was amazing.
She has a vague preference for a white, green, or blue dragon because she wants to go Fast.

Appearance: Up to you! However, you should bear in mind the appearance of Varella (below) if she’s already been adopted. He’d rather just not be noticed please, probably has long hair he tries to hide behind.
Personality: Shy and retiring, Selvaron is looking desperately for his place in the world but struggles to find the confidence to chase after opportunities. He seeks approval from the adults in his life first and foremost and tends to try too hard to please them; when he fails to please them he’s devastated. He is an imaginative lad and a very intuitive one too, making him both a great storyteller and a wonderful listening ear. Here again however he tends to give too much of himself as he drifts after other people as he tries to find his passion in life - it is his hope that a dragon will come to him with that ready made in their mind so that he doesn’t have to make a bold step of his own volition.
He is close to but very different from his twin sister, she stands up for him when he’s being pushed around and he listens to her and comforts her when she struggles with her emotions.
Any colour dragon would be fine by him.

Personality: Varella has absolutely no patience with established order, tradition, chores, or whatever other boring stuff the adults are on about. She’d got her own things planned, her own way of doing them, and she definitely doesn’t need anybody okay? And when she’s getting a hug from her uncle or grandpa or twin brother you’d better believe she will deny it to the hilt even if somebody saw it happen - it does happen though, and she feels a lot better after a good yell and a cry. While she doesn’t exactly know what she wants to do in the future yet she’s sure it’s going to be impressive, and totally different to anything anyone else ever did - her individuality is all important to her.
She has a very close relationship with her twin brother Selvaron and considers herself his protector from people who’d upset him or take advantage of him. He’s also one of only three people on Pern she’ll ever show vulnrability to.
Varella wars within herself between wanting a rare colour of dragon such as gold, bronze, or white to be Special, and wanting a green, blue, or brown to raise a finger to all of that.
