D'io and Bronze Amaryssoth
Name: D'ioFormerly: Daniyo
Age: 45
Gender: Male
Sexual Orientation: Pansexual
Former craft: Cowboy Runners (taming, training, rider)
Origin: Bitra (Benden Weyr)
Rank: Weyrsecond; Wingleader, Heart's Blood wing
Appearance:
Height: 5'5", though he carries himself like someone much taller. His height made him an ideal jockey, should he have continued with well-trained racing runners.
Eye color: Dark brown
Hair color: Dark brown with a reddish-brown beard. As he ages, his hair accumulates increasing grey and red mixed throughout, with a shock of white toward the middle of his forehead.
Build: For all of his abnormal height, he is well-proportioned, and rather burly and strong.
Other distinguishing features: He has a rather narrow face and when he smiles his whole face lights up with mirth... or insanity. Depends on the situation, of course.
Personality:
Positive traits: By-the-book, Energetic, Charismatic, Loyal
Negative traits: Reckless, Risk-taker, Brazen
This guy seems like he's crazy at first! He really loves his job, dragons, and training to fight thread. He would be the first one out and the last one in during a Fall if he could. (Now imagine this exuberance twenty years from now when Thread finally does begin to Fall.) He will give excited pep talks before heading out, and shout encouragement while he rides. He is a good (not super) strategist but goes by the book. In the future, this not thinking outside the box may prove a bit of a problem. He may also rush out as recklessly a newbie rider who doesn't know their own power yet.
On the ground, he is a loyal companion. He knows the depth of his bond with his friends and allies, and knows "how far he can throw" his enemies and other people he doesn't trust. He loves to gamble on just about anything. With a high tolerance for alcohol, when his face turns red you know he's had a bit too much. He is tall, burly, and generally strong, a man with a slow temper, so when you have angered him, you know you've gone way too far. Do not start a bar brawl with him. If you can. Just don't.
Despite his lusty personality, he does know when to chill out and channels his energy into focus and leadership.
History:
Born in 137, Danyio grew up in Bitra riding the wild runners for the 2 seconds at a time before being bucked off. He loved his life and expected to be all twisted and bent long before he grew old. Lucky for him he was Searched before he could be brutally injured, though some injuries have lead over time to premature arthritis in his back and limbs. But that wild spirit came with him to Benden Weyr and at the age of 17 he was perfect for Amaryssoth. They proved to be highly driven in their classes, both at the books and in the air, and despite anyone's misgivings they moved up in ranks.
In Turn 180 and at the age of 43, the Weyrsecond of Benden transferred to Fort with other surviving pairs ready to take any rank he was given without question. With so much strut-and-posture going on between the leaders of other Weyrs, he was happy to laugh and take what Fort thought was best. He would prove himself again or maybe just let younger leaders take the top positions for a change. But that was not to be. As a Weyrsecond for the second time, D'io feels they worked hard to get where they are and it has nothing to do with age, politics, or his dragon's color.
He thinks greenriders clutching is fascinating and exciting. The more greens that can do this the better. The plague affected some of his wing and he lost good people in his life. It makes him go quiet (for a change) and solemn in their memory. So more dragons despite the loss of their Queens can only be good, right? So when do men start riding Queens?
Other:
DragonName: Amaryssoth
Age: 28
Colour: Bronze
Size: 42.3' long, 12.8' tall
Build: Rather slinky and muscular, he has the sporty look of one who gets plenty of exercise. No human is going to suspect he is at all lazy.
Hide shade/pattern: Gradations of orangey and yellowy hues bring sunsets to mind.
Other distinguishing features: Dark markings on toes and fingers, with black "tear track" markings down either side of the nose like those of a cheetah.
Personality:
Positive traits: Energetic, Determined, Judicious
Negative traits: Excitable, Timid, Pushover
Energetic and excitable, this dragon has a lot of pent-up energy, or so it would seem. His stamina is good but the way D'io pushes him takes a toll. Nevertheless, he has the heart to keep flying, or pulling, or pushing, beyond his limit if his rider instructs him to. He does have a more level head than D'io and would cross him if D'io got out of hand. That brassy roar would stop even this rider in his tracks. With other dragons he is rather careful, as if he is afraid his bulk could harm someone. More likely he just does not want to move too fast and run into someone with all of his energy. With humans he is very mild and does not move much in their presence. Overall this leaves him with an almost vibrating vigor, which translates into whip-like speed on take-off.
Other: The inspiration for Amaryssoth's coloration came from a close-up picture of macaw feathers.
