Name: Lorux
Age: 19 (163)
Gender: Male
Sexual Orientation: Probably straight? Probably.
Role/rank: Candidate, former drudge
Appearance: On the shorter side, wiry and tough. In colouration he's your typical Pernese melting pot; dark brown hair that forms tight corkscrew curls if allowed to grow at all, warm brown eyes, and mid brown skin with freckles over the bridge of his nose. His features are broad and pleasant but not remarkable other than his brilliant winning grin, which could possibly light up the sky all on its own.
Personality: Lorux is a charming, cheeky, people-peon - in general he will befriend anybody, often whether they like it or not; he has a tendency to barge up to people who look like they're having fun or doing something interesting and shove his way into the conversation or activity. It takes really quite a lot of effort to rebuff him, and when this is successful the rebuffer will often be put on his 'to annoy and inconvenience' list, he just can't stand it when people aren't friendly! The exception to his own friendliness is Posh Folk who've had everything handed to them on a platter, he's resentful of those who got an easy ride while he's spent his life to date working his arse off for exactly zero thanks.
Lorux finds it hard to understand stoic or introverted people; his heart is on his sleeve one hundred percent of the time and he always says exactly what he means without fear of the consequences, even back when he was a drudge and it sometimes got him a thrashing.
Serious? What even is that? Lorux is almost totally incapable of taking things serious, both situations and people. This means that he's pretty unflappable in a crisis, but also that he can be unintentionally insensitive and dismissive of people's issues. If he realises he has upset somebody he'll try to make amends, sure, but he won't pretend to know why you got so worked up to begin with. His lack of understanding and capacity to cope with serious stuff also means that he doesn't know how to deal with any major unhappiness he might experience himself. In general he bounces back from sadness quickly but if something does go badly wrong in his life he tries to laugh it off and then shoves it under the rug, where it will fester for a long time unacknowledged.
History:
163: Born to a drudge in Telgar Hold, father unknown. With no prospect of education he stayed by his mother's side at first and was put to work as soon as he could use a scrubbing brush to decent effect. As he got older the work got harder, the hours longer, but he revelled in the camaraderie of his fellow drudges and kept alive a secret dream that one day his father - probably a Weyrleader - would sweep in and take him and his Ma and his friends all away to his Weyr where they'd be happy together, and where Lorux would Impress a dragon of his very own, probably a bronze or a gold or a white.
175: Lorux's mother was kicked by the Lord's runner during chaotic preparations for a Turn's End gather. She died three days later despite the efforts of the Hold's healers. Truthfully they had done all they could but Lorux got it into his head that had she been somebody 'important' they would've found a way to do more and save her - his budding resentment of the well-born grew.
178: The Plague didn't directly affect the Holds of Pern but the implications of it were soon realised - the north was doomed for sure. The Lords though? Well they could afford a ship across the sea if it came to it now couldn't they? Lorux overheard plenty such plans for survival but did they include him and his friends? Probably not so far as he could see, if there was going to be an evacuation their names were going to be right at the bottom of the list.
181: When Searches went out for Masalth's clutch plenty of people stayed away but Lorux and several other drudges snuck away from their work when a Searchdragon arrived, and three of them were chosen to Stand. Lorux was more or less aware of the risks, in a sort of an abstract way, but as far as he was concerned it was much better to be at a Weyr than stuck drudging in Telgar and anyway risks or no it'd always been his dream to Impress and so off he went. There was still a lot of hard work to do when he arrived of course but he also got taught to read properly and learned things about Pern he'd never known before, plus people generally used his name when they yelled at him, so as far as he was concerned it was a win.
182: When greens started to clutch and the north looked less doomed than before Lorux's excitement at being a candidate grew, and he hopes that his dragon will find him before too much longer!
