The morning was interesting, to say the least. He woke up to a man in his bed; although he wasn't surprised. It was just something that had never happened before. Sure it was done because it was now dangerous to walk around on your own at night; but still. Just recently he parted ways with the same person. He was convinced to eat lunch together and the man ended up cooking some delicious lamb. Honestly, it wasn't hard to convince him to eat a free meal--especially when meat was involved.
After they parted ways, he went to his shop to see what ingredients he had for the special request he got the previous day. It looked like he might need to gather a thing or two before getting started, but he figured it would be good to check something back at his studio apartment. He often took his work home with him after all.
By the time he was coming up on his place, it was late afternoon. He wasn't pressed for time so it didn't matter to him. Still, he wasn't used to having spent more of the weekend socializing than working. The only reason he got a request the day before was because the shop was semi-open even though it isn't supposed to be on a Saturday. Amber orbs shifted to look at a neighbors place. A single mom with a young son lived there. They interact from time to time, but they weren't particularly close. A soft smile appeared on his face.

While sitting her behind onto the comfy couch, watching TV in the living room, her son had other plans of mischief to make on such a peaceful Sunday. Sitting in his room, Desi did the usual 6 year old things. Playing with action figures, coloring, finding new dirt for blackmail. Ya know… normal child things… In the midst of his play, his bright blue eyes caught a glimpse of their neighbor, Liev! What was he up to today? With a little smirk, the little kitten raced down the stairs and ran past his mom, heading for the front door. ”Oh boy… What is he up to now? “ Nico really just wanted a quiet day, but it looks like that would have to be put on hold. As she watched from a distance, Nico simply sat back and watched as Desi swung the front door open the second the Apothecary owner walked past it.
” FREEZE! PUT YOUR HANDS IN THE AIR, MISTER! “ The second the little boy shouted the demands, he rose up a bright green and orange nerf gun, pointing it right at Liev’s back. ” Turn slow and walk to me, buddy-boy! He was looking right at the door when it was flung open. Liev came to a complete stop and turned to look at him as he told him to freeze with such vigor. A smile spread across his face as he slowly raised his hands as the other demanded. Then he proceeded to walk over until he was right in front of Desi. "You don't have to force me at gun point. If you want to ask something then just ask." He gave him a smile before lower his arms. One ended up on the little guys head so he could ruffle it.
Liev kneeled down to get on his level. His eyes glanced at the toy gun. "Be careful where you point that thing. You could poke someone's eye out." He teased lightly before switching topics. "How has your weekend been so far? Having fun?" He gave him another smile before amber orbs shifted to look at the open door. "Are you trying to cool off your house?" It was a teasing question asked in a way to address the issue of the open door. If he had to explain what he meant he would. It probably wasn't a good idea to stay outside after all. Liev glanced down at the little one's feet. He wasn't dressed for outside play. "If you aren't careful everything inside will freeze." He added for fun.

「 Everybody wants to be a cat. . . 」▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂ Seeing as Liev had gotten closer to the young boy’s proximity, Desi smirked devilishly before he had aimed his toy gun right dead-center on his forehead. With him kneeled down to his short level, it made it a lot easier to hit that target! Pulling the trigger, a foam dart with the bright orange suction cup shot out and stuck to the male’s forehead with ease. ” Ha! Got ya! “ The child cheered with delight before plucking the dart right off of his face. He had reloaded his little weapon before blue orbs looked over towards the door that he had left wide open. Oof. Mom wasn’t gonna be happy about that. Speaking of which…
Momma Nico came walking over, a child-sized coat in her hands. ” Desmond. You know what I said about going outside! “ Momma cat sighed heavily before coming over to shove the little kitten in the puffy coat that he hated so much! It was so restricting! How was he supposed to stir up some trouble in this marshmallow-like straight jacket! Wriggling in protest, Desi was somehow able to free himself before running over and behind Liev for temporary cover. ” I’m fine! I was just stopping this criminal from selling his drugs in that weirdo store! “
Man, Desi was such a damn handfull! With arms crossed, Nico shook her head. ” It’s an apothecary, brat. He’s not a drug dealer… No more cop shows for you! “ Why did she have to have such a mischievous little boy? Why couldn’t he have ended up quiet or, at least, a bit more respectful to people. Oh well. Manners was something she was going to have to work on with him. Anyways, Nico looked over to white-haired cat-shifter and smirked. ” Do you ever take a break from work, Liev? A look of shock appeared on his face when he was shot. When the little one plucked the dart off his forehead he promptly fell to the ground--dead. Of course the whole thing was an act. Liev only moved to sit up when he heard Nico's voice. Watching the struggle was quite amusing. He couldn't help but smile. Right around the time he was about to push himself back up Desi ran to hide behind him. Amber orbs looked back at the one who accused him of being a drug dealer. A slight 'pfft' escaped his mouth--which he covered with his hand. Now was not the time to laugh. There was no way he could handle being a drug dealer. At least not of the illegal kind. He even refused to create shady magic potions. A smile graced his features when Nico defended him; although his gaze went back to the little one for a moment. "You know Desi..." he started softly since the words were meant for his ears only. Liev didn't actually care if she heard though. "Shooting an unarmed man is illegal."
After the words were uttered he returned his attention to the boy's mother. A smile formed on his face as he stood up. A hand ruffling the kid's wild locks. "The creation part is fun." He explained simply before adding on the next bit. "But this weekend has felt like a big break for me." It was strange. "I did that gift exchange for once. Went to the bar with someone who just moved in and hung out with this magician I met a couple weeks ago. I was at his place earlier today." It was weird talking about him, but it didn't show in his demeanor. Everything that happened recently with the guy was too much for him and they parted in a way that made him feel...bad. He gave her his typical smile before asking her a question. "How have things been for you? Ready for the holidays?" He probably only remembered the fact that Christmas was coming up because of the gift exchange. Liev had a tendency to get lost in his work.

「 Everybody wants to be a cat. . . 」▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂ Hearing Liev’s words about shooting a man being illegal, Desi simple shrugged before smirking once more. ” It’s only illegal if I get caught~ I just gotta make sure I don’t! Easy Peasy~ “ Sigh. The logic of this child was wild, indeed. He really had been watching too many crime scene based TV shows. They were giving the little devious boy too many ideas; too many sinister little plots for dino nuggets! It was surprising that he hadn’t even committed a petty crime just yet. Hopefully in his teenage years, he wouldn’t get in trouble with the law like Nico did… Anyways! Feeling the large hand ruffling up his bed-headed locks, Desi was quick to swat the hand away. ” Hey! Don’t mess up my hair-do! I like to keep it messy in a certain way. “ The kitten grumbled as he tried to fix his bird’s nest of a head. The good thing about it being a Sunday was that he had nowhere to go! No school, no nothing! He didn’t have to worry about his fluffy mop-top needing to look presentable for public’s view. He could look as messy as he wanted! Well… so long as his mom didn’t have any objections.
” Huh, seems like a good chunk of people here did the Secret Santa thing, too. Desi and I met ours yesterday, but turns out I know her - sorta! “ She wasn’t going to mention it too much about how she knew Halley, not in front of her son, at least. Her days in that shitty orphanage wasn’t something that Nico was too willing to reveal to Desi so soon. Maybe when he’s older and able to comprehend it more. But right now? He was too young. Even though he was a smart cookie, she didn’t expect him to know or understand why her parents basically dumped her in that hellhole. Not to mention the other BS she had to deal with throughout her youth. ” As for Christmas, I’ve been trying to get gifts ready. But this little one keeps finding the ones he was gonna get! I’m gonna have to chuck him onto you one day. That way I get more of a chance to hide his stuff and you get… uh… A helper for your shop! Desi could be useful… I’m pretty sure… “
Was it bad that she was trying to pawn her son on poor Liev? There was probably a lot that Desi could learn from this man, but at the same time, she felt sorta bad for leaving her mischievous boy with him. You literally had to keep that boy on a leash sometimes! You could look away for one second, and the brat would be gone! Nico’s had plenty of heart attacks from her kid more times than she could count. "It is still illegal. You just don't get in trouble if you don't get caught." He explained while also not bothering to further the conversation more than that. Why was he talking to such a young kid about that kind of thing all because he made a joke? It was a bit awkward--at least for him. Liev was tempted to ruffle his messy locks since he complained about it. Instead, he just smiled and said nothing.
"Oh, really? Small word I guess. Are you going to become fast friends now?" He teased lightly since he knew knowing someone doesn't mean you were or want to be best friends. "Kids like to find things." Liev commented as he adjusted the scarf around his neck. It wasn't mentioned from experience. In fact, he never really had a Christmas. Not a traditional one. If he did it was too far back for him to remember. "I don't know about bringing a little one to the shop for hours on end, but I don't mind helping when you really need it." There was a slight pause before he added the next part. "Unless I'm extra busy at the time." He gave her a smile after glancing over at the one in question. It wasn't a big deal if he had nothing to do but overwork himself after all. "Got anything planned for today?"

Honestly, she believed that their whole Secret Santa meeting was just pure coincidence. Hell, Nico hadn’t really met up or seen anyone from her past before. In full honesty, she sort of liked to keep it that way too. The less people that came up from the past, the less memories that would pop up. Being a kid in the shitty system wasn’t the greatest of origin stories. Even getting into a decent high school was a bit of a difficult memory to remember. There were people and friends that were special to her, and one that she knew was in the city, but… it was best to forget. ” Eh, if it happens, then it happens. If not, I’m not gonna worry about it. As long as I have my goofball, I’ll be fine. “ The mother replied as she ruffled up Desi’s hair some more.
The idea of baby-sitting felt like an absolute dream for Nico. It was already hard enough to find someone to watch Desi during her odd work hours. While she kept her stripping job a secret, she kept the facade of working multiple jobs as her excuse for being out so late. Desi definitely wasn’t old enough to know that big momma was actually an exotic dancer for big money. She couldn’t corrupt that 6 year old mind of his. So, he’d have to wait until he was older to find out more about those “dark” family secrets. ” You really wouldn’t mind? He’s a handful, so finding a good sitter is hard. I’ll take any help I can get. “
Desi grumbled throughout the whole conversation and eventually crossed his little arms over his chest. ” I keep telling you, ma! I’m a big boy! I don’t need a stinkin’ sitter. “ While the boy was a lot more independent than the typical 6 year old, he still needed A LOT of supervision. His sinister little schemes and pranks got him into a lot of trouble from time to time. Besides, Nico didn’t want him doing anything too crazy to the point where she would lose him. Nobody was gonna take her baby away! ” I know, I know. You’re such a big boy. But, think of this as like a play date. Heh, Liev might even teach you a few things about shifting. I know you’ve been wanting to fully shift for a while Desi~ “
Bright childish eyes lit up the second the topic of full shifting came about. Desi was practically desperate in trying to learn! Having cat ears and a tail were cool and all, but he wanted to actually be the full fledged feline! ” Ohhh, really?! “ Looking up at Liev, the little boy grabbed a hold of his coat sleeve, tugging on it excitedly. ” Will you teach me? He smiled at her response. It was a good way to take things--just go with the flow and not worry. Too bad he couldn't be so easy-going. Well, he was one to get pulled into things so that was kind of similar. If he was really against it he'd put his foot down. Perhaps he was too lenient about that stuff though. His eyes shifted to look at Desi as his hair was ruffled. A smile formed on his features.
"I'm sure I'll manage somehow." He responded to the handful bit after he looked back at her. A smile was given to Nico. It wasn't long before Desi made a complaint about being watched when mom was gone. He watched the exchange happen with a small smile on his face. That was until she mentioned something about him teaching the little one how to shift. He honestly didn't know if he could do that. They were more like humans that can shift into felines. He is an actual were-cat. It's his race. That's why it isn't at all related to the power he developed. Would shifting be similar enough for him to teach? Come to think of it. They know he can shift, but he probably didn't tell him it was because of his race. He didn't quite remember and was given no time to ponder such things.
The excitement in the child's eyes made him hope he could actually help. He smiled yet again as he crouched down to Desi's level after his coat was tugged. He placed a gentle hand on his head. "There are a few things we can try. Although, I don't know how fun they will be." He warned lightheartedly. Amber orbs glanced up at the boys mother for a moment as his hand dropped from the little one's head. "Can you wait like a good big boy until it's time to train?" He asked playfully.
Only when their mini-conversation was done did he stand back up to focus more of his attention on Nico. "It has been good to see you both but I should get going."
