The Beast of Chaos

From the wild places of the realms, the true children of Chaos return. And they have not come alone; alongside vast hordes of savage beastmen come hulking mutants and towering monsters ready to lay low any trace of civilisation and return the lands to the primal grip of the dark gods…

In the wilds of the Mortal Realms, an ancient evil plots. While many of the servants of Chaos are men, their most ancient and true children are the Brayherds, Warherds and Thunderscorn – mutants who combine the cunning and guile of men with the feral strength of beasts.

Driven back during the Storm of Sigmar, vast tribes of these creatures – known collectively as the beasts of Chaos – now descend once more to the Mortal Realms as gigantic, mutated beasts shamble alongside teeming hordes of muscular, furious gor. Their aim? To destroy all traces of civilisation and drown the realms in pure, anarchic Chaos.

The various subfactions:

The Brayherds
-Beastmen

The Warherds
- Minotaurs

The Thunderscorn -Dragon Ogres

The Brayherds

It is unknown whether the gor-kin are creatures from the Realm of Chaos or the result of its warping influence on mortal peoples or beasts. They are dangerous, brutal, primitive and normally highly territorial - although a Chaos champion can unite them to move away from their herdstones to embark on a blood rampage.

Their vicious society has little room for the weak, those who can not fight for their place are devoured or join captives in being sacrificed to appease the gods of Chaos. Lowest in station are the ungors who scout and hunt for the herd whilst the gors and bestigors are the fighting force led by Beastlords and Great Bray-Shamans. Sometimes a few chariots are made in lieu of cavalry or war machines of other races.

The War Herds

The Warherds are nomadic and supremely destructive warriors driven by animal fury and an insatiable hunger for blood and flesh. Led by towering Doombulls and bound by the monstrous bloodgreed that burns through their bodies, Warherds smash everything in their way. Any who stand against a Warherd are torn to shreds and consumed to satisfy the endless thirst of the Bullgor warriors.

The Warherds are believed to be related in some way to the Gors of the Brayherds. Without a doubt the two factions share physical similarities and often fight alongside one another, though many champions of Chaos choose to use Warherds as their vanguard. The Doombull leaders of these tribes often lead charging forces into battle, and are easily paid in the corpses of their enemies to devour. Luckily for the inhabitants of the Mortal Realms the Warherds are largely nomadic and are not driven by any true strategy - were they to unite behind a single goal, it would spell terrible destruction upon all the Realms

The Thunderscorn

Thunderscorn or Dragon Ogres as they are better known are amongst the most ancient of the world’s living creatures. Their incredible longevity, as with almost all things supernatural, is the work of the Chaos Gods. Aeons ago, the elders of their race made a pact with the Ruinous Powers, embracing damnation in order to save themselves from a slow decline into extinction. They were given eternal life, and in return, the entire Dragon Ogre race put themselves at the command of the Dark Gods. Since that day, the Dragon Ogres have carved their names across the ages as immortals who can only die in battle, monstrous beings that rouse themselves only in the name of destruction.

Though they have lived for an age, Dragon Ogres spend most of their years slumbering under the mountains, and it is only when terrible storms assail the crests of the world that they stir and come to life. As lightning spears out of the skies, the Dragon Ogres scale mountain and glacier. They do this in order to bathe in lightning, rejoicing in the raw forces of nature, for it is the storm that invigorates them and fills them with deadly energy for their coming battles.
