• Esther is the synth clone of a long dead woman named Esther Hagen. Years ago, the real Esther, her little sister Katrina, and their shitty mom lived together. Esther often protected her sister from their mom when she went on alcoholic rampages. One night, the sisters ended up fleeing from home and found a small, abandoned cabin near Oberland Station, where they continued to live. Esther, however, fell into chem addiction and eventually overdosed, leaving her sister to fend for herself.
• Katrina ended up finding her way to Diamond City, where she continued to study mechanical shite. She liked figuring out how things worked and tinkering, and was good at it. Eventually, she ended up with the Institute and helped work on older versions of synths, before they perfected gen 3s. Once gen 3s were being made, she managed to find an old brush of Esther's with some strands of hair in it to clone. Thought, it wasn't really Esther. It just looked like her. Even though she came to see gen 3s as machines, seeing this thing that looked like her sister and maybe even act like her, but not have any of the memories made her sad. This was kinda her way of bringing her sister back, but it wasn't the same. Esther, or G2-83, had also tried escaping before, only to be brought back and have her mind wiped, which damaged the component in her head.
• As Katrina got older, she began to regret keeping the clone of her sister locked up here, even though she didn't really see synths as people. There was a comfort she wanted knowing her sister was alive somehow, somewhere. So, she secretly arranged to have Esther be smuggled out by the Railroad and requested certain details to be in the memories they gave her, ones that matched their childhood so that she would be more like her.
• Esther was given false memories that matched Katrina's request, though due to damage done to her synth component, the memories were garbled and difficult to understand, creating great stress and confusion for Esther later on as she didn't know where she came from or what the jumbled nonsense in her head even meant.
• The only sense she could make from the memories, or what story she managed to put together for her own sake, was that she lived with her little sister, who's name she doesn't remember, in a shack near some train tracks and a lake. Something happened that cause Esther to leave Katrina alone, but she doesn't remember what and feels guilty about abandoning her sister. She feels compelled to seek her out, but isn't sure where to start looking, who too even look for exactly, and even if any of this is real.
