Lady Luck had to be laughing at him. It was the only thing he could think of. Luck is a fickle mistress though and it looked like she had moved on to another to give her blessing. How else could Edmund explain how tonight went all the hell? Perhaps he should have started gambling, given her something else to do other than help him in his nightly endeavors. Or maybe it was just his time to run out. He didn't know. All Edmund hoped was that she would return soon and help him out of this mess.

This annoying, stubborn mess. The guy had gone to the party to nab a fabulous necklace for his collection, for this gentleman thief was no Robin Hood. What he stole he kept in his life of luxury. Edmund didn't even know the people he stole from. But ritzy parties were the perfect target for him. It had started so simple, so much like every other heist. Slipped in, mingled and pretended he belonged there. Make his way up to where the private rooms are. Nab the item and go.

But no. Not this time. This time he had to take something with the necklace. Something he didn't even want. A chatty, self-righteous, woman who would not shut up about returning the necklace. Edmund didn't care if this female was a friend of the one he stole from. No necklace was worth harassing him over. No doubt the girl would buy another necklace like it with the insurance money from the theft.

Edmund rubbed his temple to try to get rid of the growing headache as he drove away. He needed some way to get rid of this woman.

Vanessa glared at the man who took her friend's necklace. She was furious and she was not letting him get away with it. No matter what she was getting it back for her friend. She was not going to leave until he gave it to her so she could give it back to her friend. Why was the guy such an a**? Why did he have to take it?

She's just been trying to have fun at the party with her friends and such enjoy the time. She had just been in the right place at the right time to see him knick the necklace. She had followed him after that since it was not his and he was not going to get to keep it. There was no way. She didn't care what he did or said and she would make sure she got it back from him. She wouldn't allow him to intimidate her at all about any of this.

She had followed him the entire way and gotten into his vehicle despite him trying to get rid of her. "Give it back. The necklace is not yours and does not belong to you. If you give me the necklace back there will be no consequences for you."

Edmund scoffed. "No consequences? Suppose I do let you leave with the necklace now. If I dropped you off in front of their place, people will see you return with the necklace. How would you explain who you left with to just return? And how would you explain having the necklace on you? Or say I let you go now. You walk up, and people would still ask why you have the necklace." He glanced over at the annoyance. "If you hadn't come with me, it would have taken them awhile to figure out the necklace was gone. They would have had no idea who had taken it. I'm sure she would have been able to get another necklace with the insurance money. But now that you are here, I wouldn't be surprised if Daddy Dearest threw on kidnapping charges as well. So you fool yourself if you believe that there will be no consequences."

And then there were the unseen ones. The thief couldn't go home. Not with this baggage with him. He couldn't afford to let her see his main residence. If he did and she ended up leaving, she'd go to the police. Who no doubt would be interested to hear of the gentleman thief and storm his place in search for more stolen property. So his sanctuary would have to be forsaken. For now. But which safe house to go to. That was the question.

Vanessa glared at him. She rolled her eyes at that. "What I choose to tell people is my business, not yours. They can ask what they like and I'd think of something to say. It's not hard to distract people, give them something else to think about, or tell them the truth in a way that they draw the conclusions you want them to." She met his annoyed glance with her glare, not backing down in the slightest. She would not let him try to intimidate her or anything else like that. She shook her head. "No, it really wouldn't have taken long at all." She snorted and sneered at his words. "That's pathetic that you think it's the money or monetary thing about it that I want back. How sad is your life that you think something is only valuable if you can put a price on it. Some things are priceless and no money in the world can ever replace them." She snorted more. "You let me go with the necklace and I don't say I was kidnapped and yes there would be no consequences for you. If you don't let me leave with the necklace I promise it won't be that nice for you."
