You know that feeling when you get a new item/ton of gold and you feel inspired to recreate a character you like and something just doesn't work out?
tbh I'm used to redoing my avis like 2 or 3 times, so I usually just end up with originals inspired by a certain idea. But how is it for you guys? Is it frustrating when you're suddenly an item or two short from a cosplay, and what do you do when that happens?

I'm kind of on the fence about this. I have fully done cosplay avis, partial / 'Eh, close enough' cosplay avis, and inspired by characters and cosplay avis. lol Though, I wasn't aware of how many I had until I was uploading the different pics. The partial ones are totally just me adding additional items to make up for what I might have been missing.
I do get kind of frustrated when I'm only one or two items away from the perfect cosplay avi. It does help sometimes that gaia has some of the charater cosplay items, but, then again, it can get really pricey trying to get enough of those items to put together all of the different poses. That's pretty frustrating too. Yeah, I normally give up. lol
I rarely cosplay, mostly because I am severely a**l retentive about detail, and if I can't find an item that is an exact match to the look I'm going for, I usually just scrap the idea entirely. sweatdrop
Below are some of mine:
Super Sailor Moon: Transformation Sequence: Princess Serenity+Cats: Manga Princess Serenity: Sailor Moon:
And then there's my eternal love of NPC Sandman:
I have a small army of Kindred Gijinka (sp?) on my other computer that I'll load if anyone wants to see them. They were prior to my days of saving at normal size though. XD
I also have a small army of half-completed cosplays that are just sitting around waiting for that perfect item to show up. emo

Yes it is frustrating. the worst part is when there's a specific item you need and it's either really expensive, or there's none for sale (as of right now, it's both!). I enjoy using sets, so I will usually put the item on my wishlist so I can keep an eye on it, (like Explosively Murderous (40k plat and rising) ). I usually will keep trying stuff on until I find an item I like. if the avi looks good already, I will use it, but otherwise, I usually end up using another cosplay until I can either afford the item, or I move onto another obsession. lol.
I had that with my current avatar. I use to use a different head piece plus the animated item to make everything gray until the one I wanted actually deflated to the normal price it use to be at. Took a while but worth it for me -o-
One thing I am not a big fan of is there are people who dont like others who use sets but sometimes that is the best option, especially with cosplay. comparing my new journey cosplay to the old one it is obvious that the sets help greatly to achieve it.

It's frustrating but sometimes stepping down until the right item appears is the best thing to do.. (I been cosplaying on gaia since 05 so i know the pain.)

oooh, back in the old days when cosplay was about getting creative and squinting to make it look close enough. Or, just making Naruto cosplays. pfffft

With this avatar account I just do my Anonymous mask look with whatever elegant gent suit-clothes suit my fancy, but with my other Gaia account where cosplaying is "the thing" I usually just work with a look that estimates the cosplay close enough. This doesn't mean that I am sloppy or lazy -- but if Gaia doesn't offer items to make a particular cosplay feel "authentic," then I feel licensed to create an attractive avatar by any means possible. xD ~VSC
The same just happened to me the other day ;u; I was trying to do an human version of Mega Mawile. Couldn't found the correct items and ended selling all the items I buy before. The good part is I gained more money than the amount I spended for those items emotion_c8
