Quote:
Celsus may at first be perceived as the "absent-minded professor" sort due to his eccentric nature and devotion to magic. As an extrovert, he is a people's person and enjoys the company of others, as opposed to being alone. Those who speak with Celsus will find that he loves to talk and tends to dominate conversation. He's been described as a "social butterfly, if a butterfly was like 7 feet tall and could shoot fire from its fingertips." When alone, he quickly becomes bored and antsy. Celsus lives very in the moment and doesn't appear to stress about the future or consequences. However, he often does things last minute.
Aside from being relatively laid back and personable, Celsus just as often shows the reckless, stubborn, and destructive side of himself. He tends to act before he thinks, and at times can get carried away in the rush of excitement. Celsus can be a little too ambitious for his own good and has a habit of rushing ahead with no planning whatsoever. Because of this, he often spreads himself too thin, and then takes his failures hard. Alongside his glaring lack of forethought, Celsus has been known to hold grudges.

Quote:
Celsus didn’t necessarily come to be by normal means. He wasn’t so much as born but bred by the remnants of the Mythic Dawn after years of planning and research. After the Oblivion Crisis and the bridge between Oblivion and Mundus had been sealed off, it was almost certain there was no hope for the Mythic Dawn. Though mostly disbanded, the cult continued to thrive in small groups. One especially seemed to be the most ambitious and had developed a hypothesis involving the concept of sigil stones, though not by conventional means. The only way of accessing Oblivion at this point was through these stones, however the time was limited, but there must have been some way around it.
Within time and a few generations later, the remnants had developed the basis of a plan. What they needed was something more than just a sigil stone, but one capable of creating an everlasting Gate to Oblivion. After years and years of research and experimentation with sigil stones and similar artifacts, it was discovered by the cultists that there was a way to create such a thing, given they follow an assortment of convoluted steps. Their research lead them to believe that they needed a force strong enough to eternally power a sigil stone. What they thought they needed wasn't actually the stone itself, but something with unlimited energy, bound to both Mundus and the Deadlands of Oblivion.
The ritual was planned for years—everything had to be precise. When the day finally came, the ritual itself seemed to go over without fail. Celsus was later born on the 17th of Sun's Height in the early morning. Though, the exact parentage of the child was unknown—they were unable to determine whether he was fathered by a lesser daedra or Dagon himself, but their plans wouldn't necessarily be impacted by either way. The remnants of the Mythic Dawn were only ecstatic to finally see their plan taken to its remaining steps. The child would need to be guarded in the meantime, sheltered from the outside world.
New bit:
Vigilants of Stendarr or some s**t come kicking down the door. They had received intel on some culty s**t and came to stop it. They killed many there, while others managed to flee or surrendered. They found notes on what was being planned, but the thing the cult created was referred to as "The Key and Gate," leading the Vigilants to believe they created something more literal. So, they found baby Celsus and were like, "aww, we shall liberate you from this nasty-a** cult" and took him. An Altmer woman was found near him, who they assumed was his mother, though she never once spoke. She surrendered, but later disappeared once they left, leaving the baby in their care. While stopped in Chorrol, one of the Vigilants knew an older Imperial couple who had recently lost an adult child of theirs in war or something and thought they may take the baby in. And they did. And then they lived happilyeveraftertheend.
Little did they know, their own plan would be foiled by one of their own. In the years leading up to the ritual, his mother, Neraya, began to harbor a sense of resentment and ever-growing skepticism for the cult she was raised in. It didn't fully manifest until after it was a little too late to turn back and the role she was chosen to fulfill was completed. She was the last person they would have ever suspected of sabotage. Only within a day after his birth, Neraya escaped with the newborn into the woods at night with the intent of ending the horror they started, but she couldn't bring herself to do it. Just up ahead was the town of Chorrol; maybe it didn't have to end this way. Somebody else could take him in, he got to live, and the Mythic Dawn wouldn't have him at their disposal. It was a better option, even if it was a little against her better judgement. She left the child on the steps of the Temple of Stendarr, where he was later taken in by a middle-aged Imperial couple, Quintus and Vita Albricci.
TL;DR: cult shenanigans.
Celsus’ upbringing, despite his unsettling origins, was relatively pleasant. Neither Vita, Quintus, or himself were aware of what preceded his appearance in Chorrol, and it never occurred to them that he was the product of such a bizarre, twisted ritual. Even when Celsus began to sprout a set of horns during his adolescence, the couples’ mind couldn’t even begin to delve into the reality of it. Though, it did raise concern—obviously, something wasn’t entirely right, but all they could think to do about it was to tell Celsus to keep them short and covered up. Nothing else appeared to be wrong, so maybe it wasn't anything too concerning. Celsus wasn’t necessarily a problem child for them—maybe a bit of a menace at his worst, and a bit overly willful, but he never caused his family grief. Though, he was much different from them—the humble, quiet Albriccis, as he himself was a proud, boisterous Altmer. With his parents coming into their 70s by the time he reached his early 20s, he soon found himself playing caretaker to both, as neither the Albricci’s biological children came around anymore. The first to go was Vita, who had been struck with poor health, followed by her husband three years later. Quintus had developed senility in his last few years, to the point where he didn’t seem to recognize Celsus during his last few months. Celsus wasn’t by any means the caretaker type and his parents may have been better off cared for by a pack of wolves, but he tried his darnedest to keep them comfortable. After both had passed away, Celsus stayed in Chorrol until his mid-twenties where he remained involved with the local Mages Guild. Afterwards, he moved to the Imperial City to further pursue his education.
Celsus studied at the Arcane University for many years before becoming on-and-off involved with the college. He had garnered a reputation over the years as somewhat of a troublemaker with a tendency to challenge the college’s authority, as well as force himself into situations that he was unable to handle. Because of this, his relationship with the college had become shaky and his rank had remained unchanged for many years. Irritated by his lack of progression, Celsus became bent on ascending to the next rank. Realizing that this was likely due in part to his behavior, he made an effort to lay low and behave himself, which was more difficult that he initially thought. Unfortunately, his reputation didn’t seem to get any better, especially after he impulsively took up a position as an instructor. Despite having years of scholarly knowledge, Celsus seemed to be unable to effectively share it with aspiring mages or make any solid lesson plans for them, often resorting to improvisation. As a last resort to sort out his problems, Celsus began to regularly consume the narcotic sleeping tree sap, which he obtained from dealers out of Skyrim. The drug seemed to sedate his eccentricities at the expense of performance, leading to more sluggish behavior.

Quote:
Two of the first things most notice about Celsus are his height and knife-like chin. Though on the tall side even for an Altmer, he carries on with a sort of unawareness to his size. The image he has of himself seems to greatly contrast with how he actually appears—with sharp, angular features and a set of glowering yellow eyes, Celsus doesn't always come off as the friendliest face in a crowd. This coupled with a low, booming voice and tendency to come on too strong may make for a threatening first impression. The presence of his horns doesn't help make him any less intimidating, though he has taken to filing them down and keeping them covered.

Quote:
From a combination of both his reckless nature and the devastating effects of fire, Celsus has come to be known as a loose cannon fighter. He is not tactical when it comes to combat and relies more on swift reactions and improvising as he adapts to patterns.
