Tanita smiled, a warm and understanding smile as the customer babbles about how their hPhone had stopped working and they were desperate to get it back! All those contacts, all their photos, and so on, it was just so urgent! In her head, Tanita was thinking that this person was an utter idiot, but she had her best Customer Service Face on, so the entire time the client had no clue of what thoughts were running through her mind. Finally, they stopped blathering and Tanita said "May I see the phone, please? I can't even begin to diagnose the issue until I've seen it, you see!" in a bright, and cheerful voice. The customer looked startled, and then sheepish, before dragging it out and handing it over to the young woman.
She went through all the standard steps... Trying to turn it on, seeing if it needed a charge, and so on. When none of that worked, and the client chirped about how they'd 'tried all that, I told you!', she smiled again, and said "Let me step away for a minute, there's a test I need to run, but the tools are in back." She slipped off to the backroom, and popped open the cover. She just had no desire for the client to see how easy it was, once you knew how. After all, once they figured that out, they'd spend less money at the store, and that was just unacceptable. Once she had, she was able to see exactly what was wrong immediately. Damn, this'd be too easy... But she had a feeling she could make it work out better. She closed the phone up again, and went back to the client. "Well, sir, somehow the internal connection from the battery to the charge port got damaged. There are parts that will need full replacing, and it's going to take us 24 hours. It's also going to cost a fairly large sum." She typed up an estimate, taking on the highest prices she could get away with, and showed the client. The client winced... and then nodded, agreeing to pay. "Please sign right here, on the line, to surrender your phone to us for repair, and to agree to pay the listed sum! We will contact you if we find anything else, and update you if there will be any additional fees!" She practically chirped the words, and as soon as he had signed, whisked the paperwork and the phone off to be 'worked on', or really, stored until later when she'd solder the broken wire back into place in five minutes flat.
