When this world is no more, the moon is all we'll see.

It took ten minutes for him to run out of things to do. That was new record as far as he could remember. Nikolai had left to go grocery shopping and without him here there was no way Ashe was going to fill out this week’s paperwork. So, technically he had things to do, but nothing he wanted to do. There wasn’t anything on TV he wanted to watch and he had already finished all his video games. He didn’t have the attention span for books at the moment. For now he settled on scrolling through apps on his phone, trying to find something he could focus on for a while.

“I should have just gone with him,” he said to himself. “At least then I wouldn’t be suffering boredom by myself.” He had stayed with the idea of putting on a show and doing some work, but after two pages of fine print that plan went out the window. I should probably try again. Unless I want to hear Nik b***h later, he thought making a face.

Sitting up on the couch, he grabbed the first document on the table. Most of the paperwork was about city repairs or businesses in the city. The repairs just needed his approval. “Looks like they finally found the money to fix that broken part of the subway. Though it’ll still take them five years to get that going,” he said bitterly. He hated how long it took some things to go through sometimes. He understood that there was a lot of hoops to jump through and a lot of red tape, but it shouldn’t take years for something to get fixed. Especially, when I have people whose property gets destroyed because of some monster. Most of the repair paperwork he was able to get through. There were some that were requesting him to authorize funds being taken from other parts of the city and he wasn’t sure if that would be okay. I’ll have Nik look at those. He looked at the other pile of miscellaneous paperwork and groaned.

He grabbed the pile that he knew he wasn’t going to take care of and headed to Nikolai’s room. He usually didn’t go in there, because he didn’t like Nik going in his room and it was only fair. There were exceptions though. Like stealing sweaters and jackets, which if he was honest with himself is what he was going to do. It used to surprise him how different Nik’s room was compared to his, but now it just made it easier to find things. He set the papers on his end table and headed to his closet. Though Nikolai didn’t own a lot of things, his closet was always full. Some of it probably had to do with Ashe stealing stuff and then buying him new stuff to replace the ones he didn’t want to give back. Not that it made up for him taking it in the first place, but it was better than leaving Nikolai with no shirts or jackets. He grabbed a white and gray striped sweater and threw it on. It was long on him and he had to constantly shove the sleeves up to grab anything, but it was comfortable. He was about to leave the room, when something caught his eye.

Nikolai’s swords were leaning against the wall in his room. At first Ashe was confused. Nikolai didn’t leave his swords out. There wasn’t a single time he could remember them being somewhere he could find when Nik wasn’t around. He actually felt the need to double check that he was gone, because of it. Just to be on the safe side he stepped out into the hall and made sure he hadn’t suddenly gotten back. Okay, so swords and no Nik. I really shouldn’t...but am I ever going to get the chance to look at them up close again? Probably not, he thought. Carefully, he grabbed the katana in the purple sheath. “Nik’s going to kill me,” he muttered to himself as he pulled the sword out of the sheath. He was surprised by the blue engraving on it. There was never a chance for him to get a good look at them before, but the engraving was surprisingly detailed. Though the blue through him off. I thought there was a purple and blue one? Am I remembering wrong? Quickly he put the first sword down and grabbed the one in the blue sheath. “I was right. There was a purple one,” he said, pulling out the sword enough to see the engraving. “Aw, they match his eyes. And he mismatches the colors. That’s adorable.”

Carefully, he carried the sword out into the living room, only banging it once on a doorway. He was still paranoid about Nikolai suddenly getting home and catching him, but he figured he could take some pictures of them real quick and then he could look at them whenever he wanted. Nik never has to know. Pulling the sword out, he tossed the sheath on the couch and set the sword on the table. It was probably a bad idea to do both at once, if the scratch across the table was anything to go by. He just sighed at himself. Be careful. You have to be careful, he thought, grabbing his phone. He took a few different photos, some close up and some of the whole thing. Checking his photos, it was hard to see the detail. “Better lighting maybe…?” He looked around the apartment. The kitchen might be bright enough...or outside. Shrugging, he picked up the sword and headed out onto the balcony.

After living in the same apartment for a hundred and eighty years the steps down from the living room to the balcony shouldn’t take him by surprise, and yet they still do. Without evening thinking, he reached out to catch himself, noticing the last second that the sword was still in his hand and he was about to fall on it. “It’s a sword! It couldn’t have gone far! It’s not like it grew wings and flew away!” He was pulling his hair and frantically looking around. Suddenly a idea hit him and it filled him with dread. He rushed over to the railing and leaned over, practically falling over the edge. It was hard to see, but it looked like there was something metal on the sidewalk. The only problem was it wasn’t sword shaped.

“No no no no no no no no,” he said, lowering himself from the railing. He quickly warped to the sidewalk and had to choke back a sob at the state the katana was in. It had shattered into five pieces including the handle. I am so dead. He is going to kill me. This is why I can’t have nice things. This is why I should never touch nice things. What am I going to do? He started frantically picking up the pieces, not being careful and cutting his fingers and hands. He even managed to cut his collarbone. Once he had all the pieces picked up, he warped back to his apartment.

He threw the pieces on the table, not caring that he was further scratching it, and made sure he had all of them. Okay, I can fix this. Well, not me...but someone can right? There are people that do that, he thought, grabbing his phones and pulling up a search. He had to wipe the blood off, but it looked like there weren’t a whole lot of options for weapon smiths. There was a lot of information on them that meant nothing to him. Ashe didn’t do swords. Knives? Sure. Arrow? Definitely. Then there were a couple that talked about enchantments and he was completely lost. Are they enchanted? I can’t remember. I don’t want to go somewhere that will mess it up. After a minute or two of debate, he decided to go with the one that sounded the most skilled and had the best reviews. It was all the way in Reim, but it was worth the trip if it meant getting the sword fixed.

Now that he had a plan of action he could calm down a bit. Before he could leave he needed to do something about the cuts on his hands. It would be counterproductive to get blood everywhere and he was sure whoever owned the place wouldn’t appreciate him coming in looking like he got into a fight. Careful not to get blood on anything else, he made his way into the bathroom. Quickly he rinsed off his hands, there was some blood on the handles and around the sink, but he wasn’t going to worry about it. Pulling the first aid kit out from under the sink, he quickly rifled through it for some bandages. It was hard to put them on, because he was still bleeding and his rings kept getting in the way. Eventually he got them all to the point he wouldn’t leave bloody fingerprints everywhere. He made sure that there wasn’t any blood on his face. Though the sweater would need to go. There was blood on the sleeves and collar. Sighing, he took if off and went into his room to grab one of his larger jackets.

Carefully, he wrapped up the broken katana and stuck it in a bag. Making sure he had his phone, wallet and keys, he grabbed the matching katana and headed out onto the balcony. “I ******** swear. Oh my god,” he said, as he tripped on the step, but luckily he didn’t fall on his face this time. Huffing, he jumped onto the railing, pulling out his phone. GPS told him the Reim was in the opposite direction of where his apartment faced. Turning around he flew up to the roof. I don’t want to risk Nik accidentally seeing me. I guess I should warp to the edge of town at then start flying? Shrugging, he landed on the roof and walked over the edge. A loose shingle almost made him fall, but his phone slipped. “s**t!” He yelled, throwing himself across the roof before it slide off. He was able to warp it back to himself, but he had to scramble to get back on his feet before he fell off the side.

“Today is just not my day is it?” Making sure he was facing the right direction he figured out a good spot to warp to. The actual warping was basically instantaneous. Once he was one the edge of the city he took off toward Reim, flying as quick as he could.

I'll ask you to fly away with me.
