Wanted Legacy/Villain: Zatanna (I'm trading in Shazam)
RP Sample:

"Etativel em!" Feeling a surge of energy rush through her body, Esmée's feet left the ground shortly after. Rocketing upwards as her magic brought her flying higher and higher, the sorceress couldn't help but to feel the excitement as she pushed forward. Weaving left and right through the trees, Esmée could barely hear the voices of her guides until... Bang. 'Oh s**t...' Of course it would be at a time like this that she'd become overzealous. Just beyond the clearing of the forest, Esmée could see a needle-thin line of smoke rising up into the sky. This was bad... this was real bad. She must have triggered something mid-flight, some booby trap. The temple was going to collapse before she even got to it. Holding her hands out, Esmée concentrated hard on the area in front of her. "Pots.... Pots..! Come on.... Ekam eht noisolpxe pots!" The rumblings stopped shortly after, and with a sigh of relief Esmée flew towards the edge of the clearing and hovered just above the treeline. Wincing at the sight of it, or at least what was left of it, the young girl produced a black book from her coat pocket. Opening it to the center, Esmée ran a finger down the inner spine of the book. "Ekat eton, pay more attention to what you're doing..." She dictated, and by the same force of magic that allowed her to flight, black words printed in old english text appeared in the book - 'Pay more attention'.

Slamming the book shut, Esmée raised both hands slowly above her head as she closed her eyes. With the utmost concentration, the girl cleared her throat. "Riaper eht elpmet, kcab ot eht lanigiro mrof..." Her voice echoed with an inner power, and as the spell was cast, a wave of energy was released from her body as it plunged down onto the ruins below. The ground began to rumble, and as Esmée's brought her hands down, little by little the stones began to gather together, rising into something more recognizable. Like pieces of a puzzle fitting together, bits of debris floated around and settled into their designated spots, and as the pale white light faded from view, the temple was restored. With a sigh, Esmée allowed herself to be returned to the ground, feeling a burst of fatigue setting in, just in time for her guides to arrive and spew colorful expletives at her in their language. "Look, you've taken me to where I want to go..." She explained when she finally could get a word in. "So you don't have to come if you don't want to... I can handle myself."

That only seemed to enrage them even further, but instead of staying to listen to their senseless yammering, Esmée merely shrugged and turned on her heel, heading straight towards the stone path leading into the temple.

Though she may not be well-versed in a lot of things (like science, calculus, marketing... you get the idea), the way she presents herself and the manner in which she speaks exudes a certain confidence and knowingness that leads others to believe she's, in fact, quite well-versed in any particular subject area, even if the reality is that she's simply reciting from some magazine article.

Cherished Items:

  • Grandmother's Ring: A simple silver band with the inscription of 'mens sana in corpore sano'. It belonged to her grandmother, a Homo magi who had taken a liking to Esmée in her upbringing. It was through her grandmother that Esmée began to practice magic, and so this ring has a special connection to her. After her grandmother's passing, the ring was passed on to Esmée via her will. She wears the band around her pointer finger of the right hand and uses it to focus her mind when she's in stressful situations.
  • Grimoire of the Good Witch: Originally thought to be a simple hardcover victorian-style notebook containing children's nursery rhymes and stories, it would later turn out to be a sort of spellbook and guide to all things magic and occult. Charmed to help Esmée navigate through the mystical world of the supernatural, the text contains more than just information on sacred objects and magical works, but also life advice and other notes that appear and disappear with time. Bound in black leather with the von Hanen family seal, Esmée's grimoire is one that she keeps with her at all times, and one that can only be deciphered when touched by someone of the von Hanen bloodline. To the normal prying eye, it appears as a book of nursery rhymes.
  • Jinxey: A tattered old teddy bear. One of its eyes has been replaced by a coat button, part of its ear seems to have been chewed off, and one of its arms looks as if its about to fall apart. Jinxey is the first gift Esmée's father had ever given her, and it holds a special place in her heart for that very reason. Many of the innate protective spells around her seem to revolve around the image/idea of Jinxey.

Philosophical/ Social Viewpoint: Magic always comes at a price, and this is one lesson that Esmée has learned time and time again. Part of her believes that being a Homo magi is something like a curse, but there have been countless more times that having her powers has come in handy. Esmée also isn't one to blindly put her trust in others, believing that all humans (and other sentient beings) serve only themselves and their own best interest, given her experience in the cutthroat world of business. She believes that there is no such thing as absolute altruism.

Religious Viewpoint: Esmée isn't a devout subscriber to any religious faith, though she has learned about and studied many of them in her time. If anything, Esmée would be more like to open her own secret society of sorts rather than join any established form of structured worship.

Romantic Viewpoint: A mushy romantic at heart, beneath Esmée's business-first exterior lies a typical 22 year old female on the inside. When it comes to romance and love, Esmée can be easily won over, but the woman also takes note of this as one of her weaknesses and never will allow herself to grow too attached to a man, especially if she hasn't done the proper research and background checks beforehand.

Personality
A fiery young woman with great potential to do immense and revolutionary things in the world, Esmée had always known that her life was about more than just being some rich man's daughter. Never one to shy away from a good challenge, the woman tends to take things head on, and with her stubbornness she tends to never stop until her goals have been accomplished. Taking after her father in the sense that she's rather logical in her thinking, Esmée chooses not to waste her energy on thinking of every 'what ifs', and instead is very blunt and direct in her decisions, adopting the 'do first, think later' type of attitude in her everyday life. But like her mother, she's caring, sweet, fun-loving, adventurous to an extent, and will always help someone in need. While she may not be very trusting of a person, Esmée tends to open up fairly easily, but is wary of who she becomes friends with given her social status and the fact that she believes many people befriend her not out of genuine interest, but out of greed and desire for wealth.

Biography
Born into the illustrious and filthy rich von Hanen family, Esmée's was a childhood that virtually all little girls dreamed of. It wouldn't be much of an exaggeration to say that she was born with a silver spoon in her mouth, especially given that from birth onwards, she was provided with a full team of staff waiting on her 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. She never really had to go through the hardships that one faced growing up. Her mother was a kind and loving caretaker, devoted to raising her daughter to hold the same ideals and possess the same moral compass as any decent child. Her father, though always busy doing business, would somehow find the time to tuck her in at night. It was as much a fairy tale upbringing as anyone could ever imagine.

And no, there's no twist. Neither of her parents are dead, their family mansion was never burned or bombed, Esmée didn't even really suffer any severe, mentally scarring accident or trauma as she was being brought up. It was all relatively normal. Boring, even. So why did Esmée turn out the way she is today? Why did she want to become a hero? Not for vengeance... world peace sounds nice, and of course who wouldn't want to end world hunger and stop all wars, but that wasn't necessarily what she was striving for, either. So therein lies her problem - her greatest weakness as a so-called hero. Motive. So at what point did this lifestyle change begin? Enter in, Grandmother.

Esmée's grandmother was a fairly prominent Homo magi who, in her time, had made a name for herself as a hero of sorts. Esmée's grandmother saw the potential in her granddaughter long before Esmée was even born, and so as part of her upbringing, whatever time she got to spend with her grandmother was time used to learn the arcane arts. This was something that not even her parents were aware of - both of them had been Homo magi, but neither of them were raised to practice their magic. Trained by her grandmother, Esmée would eventually begin to study her own different branches of magic, adopting teachings from all sorts of ancient texts and sources that her grandmother had access to. Even after her grandmother's passing, the girl's interest in the subject grew, and by the time Esmée hit puberty and gained more independence within her family, magic and the occult had become an integral part of her life. She kept it hidden from her parents for the longest time, but by the age of fifteen it had become evident that something was different about their daughter, and her parents had confronted her about it.

Surprisingly, her parents were actually okay with it. Sure, they were a little worried that their only child was running around playing with forces that defied any physical laws that existed in this realm, but they trusted her enough to know that she wouldn't do anything too crazy. By sixteen, on top of her studies as a college-level student, Esmée traveled around the world as a means of self-discovery. Virtually nothing was off limits when she made her trips, and as she began to expand her worldview, she also began to increase her knowledge of magics that were practiced in different regions, and the cultures that surrounded it. It was like leading living a double life - one being the studious, normal, human girl pursuing a degree in Theology and Poli Sci at a prestigious American institution; the other being a magic-practicing, ruins-exploring, relic-hunting Homo magi guided by the notebooks and scrolls left behind by her grandmother.

It was all in good fun, of course, but as time passed Esmée realized that she was growing unhappy with herself. Her pursuit of the occult, while exciting in all aspects, was leading her to a dead end. What use was this boundless knowledge, if at the end of the day most people wouldn't understand or be able to appreciate it. Sure, she was close to graduating with a college degree, but was working the family business a passion of hers? Did she even want to head the company in the future? Graduating at the age of nineteen, Esmée took a year off her travels to work under her father at the company. It wasn't quite the right fit... but she knew that he expected her to take the family business once he was gone, and that was just a burden that Esmée would have to accept. But maybe it was time to settle... or so she thought. And so for the rest of the year, Esmée worked, put aside all the things that her grandmother had taught her, even stowed the books and scrolls away and packed up all the artifacts, trinkets, tomes, and scrolls that she'd collected over the years. Treating it like a mere phase, Esmée focused on the work ahead of her and never once looked back, not until the night the world changed.

The night that all heroes went missing. With them was Zatanna, a woman whom she'd met in her travels and a fellow Homo magi. Esmée hadn't confirmed that Zatanna went missing until, after a week of trying to contact her with no success, the girl was forced to accept Zatanna's disappearance as a fact. But it seemed, with a little practice, as if Zatanna's branch of magic was becoming easier for Esmée to handle. For whatever reason, the backwards talking was working really well for her. But instead of embracing it, Esmée chose to write it off as some fluke, and it wasn't until her city slowly descended into chaos that she decided that there may be a real purpose as to what it all meant. With Zatanna as her inspiration, Esmée dusted off her books and plunged into the world of the arcane once again. And this is where her story begins, the story of Esmée, the Legacy of Zatanna Zatara.

Family:
Edward von Hanen | Evil | Father
Esmée's father, the CEO of H.E. Industries and son of its founder. Esmée holds no animosity towards her father and, in fact, is quite fond of him given that he actually did actively try to take care of her as she was growing up. Esmée is unaware of her father's rather unsavory business dealings, and the man does a good job at hiding it, but it should also be noted that everything he ever did, he did for his family and not for the intent of causing trouble.
Margaret von Hanen | Good | Mother
Esmée's mother, a homemaker and the wife of Edward von Hanen. Margaret is a kind, loving, and compassionate woman full of love and laughter, but with a feisty personality which comes from her social status. Esmée is quite close to her mother, often conversing with her on the phone even when she's traveling around the world on 'business trips'.
Dalphine von Hanen| Good | Grandmother
Esmée's grandmother and mentor. Dalphine was a prominent and powerful Homo magi in her time. An integral part of her childhood, Dalphine has passed down all her knowledge and resources to Esmée when it comes to magic and the occult. Even after her passing, Dalphine lives on through her Grimoire, which was charmed to relay messages and notes to Esmée as she progressed through her life as a practitioner of magic.

[Weapon Information]

Grimoire of the Good Witch: The magical text left behind by her grandmother. Esmée calls it the Grimoire of the Good Witch because of her love of the Wizard of Oz. In it contains an array of information on magic, magical artifacts, magic spells, as well as anything supernatural or occult be it monsters to demonology. Charmed by Dalphine when she created it, the text will only open and respond to members of the von Hanen bloodline, otherwise the text will appear as a book of nursery rhymes and children's tales. The text will change and respond based on Esmée's needs, but it will seldmon give her the full detail of things.

[Ability Information]

Magic: As a member of the magical human race, Esmée has been endowed with the innate ability to use powerful magics. While initially she learned her own forms of magic, upon becoming the Legacy of Zatanna the woman has found herself more comfortable with using Zatanna's more famous form of backwards magic. Like Zatanna, Esmée can cast an incredible number of spells, which she usually does by speaking backwards. However, the backwards-speaking is not always necessary for her to cast spells. Speaking backwards is as easy for her as it is to speak forwards. Esmée's sorcery even extends to being able to conjure and manipulate the elements themselves. She is also known to be capable of many incredible feats, ranging from: flight, weather control, healing, illusion casting, telekinesis, telepathy, teleportation, force field generation, dimensional travel, size alteration, spectral sight, mystical invulnerability, probability manipulation, memory manipulation (erasing and altering people's memories), superhuman strength, superhuman durability and extraction and teleportation of souls (she only uses this ability in dire situations). The only known limitation to her magic is that she cannot bring the dead back to life. But unlike Zatanna, Esmée is not very adept at magical improvisation yet when it comes to high-pressure environments involving humans and/or other sentient beings. That being said, when she's in situations akin to those that she faced daily while exploring and hunting for artifacts, Esmée is known to be able to think quickly on her feet and get herself (and others) out of sticky situations rather quickly. She often uses her magic to assist in performing everyday tasks, especially if she is too busy or fatigued to do them the mundane way.
Occultism: Well-versed in the realm of the occult, Esmée is a go-to source when it comes to all things supernatural. With the help of her extensive studies on the field, as well as through her Grimoire, Esmée generally is always able to find an answer of some sort for anything that can't be explained.
Multilingualism: Esmée is mostly fluent in dead and/or magical languages (i.e. Latin, Backwards Speech), but is also known to speak French, and German to varying degrees of fluency.
(Limited) Hand-to-hand Combat: Trained rather informally in hand-to-hand combat, this is a skill that Esmée is not likely to rely on when caught in a fight.

[Weakness Information]

Mnemonic Incantation: Like Zatanna, Esmée casts her spells by saying the words of her incantations backwards. She must concentrate on her magic to make sure she is using the proper spell. It is at this point where she is most vulnerable. Mnemonic incantation is the most complicated of the mystic arts. To those who are familiar with Zatanna's magics, this flaw is easily recognizable in Esmée's own magic. She must be able to speak or read backwards in order for her to focus her spells.
Higher-Level Magics: If the magic power-level of her opponent is higher than hers, then it would be extremely difficult for her to win a battle. In addition, it is difficult to impossible to affect a spell that was set in motion with higher-level magics. Powerful enchantments against beings of magic, like gods, are able to restrict her as well, preventing her from accessing enchanted places or dispel the adverse charm.
Lack of Experience: While the thought of crime fighting is all well and good, at the end of the day Esmée is just a normal girl with relatively little training when it comes to actual crime-fighting or combat in general. Esmée finds it hard to find that connection between spells that allow her to avoid trouble in a somewhat regulated environment (i.e. the traps in some ancient ruin) to spells that allow her to fight and protect herself against more tangible, human or sentient enemies.
