Even after weeks away there was one encounter he remembered vividly. Quinn didn't remember anything from the night before, nothing. It was a blank. What he did remember was waking up in a strange bed with a splitting headache only to find himself striped down to his boxers, birds chirping away like mad. That wasn't the strangest part either, apparently he spent the night with a guy.
Seriously hung over, confused, worried, angry, and oddly sore the young man beat a hasty retreat that morning. Quinn remembered mumbling something about classes and home and other pointless excuses as he scrambled into his clothes and out the door. It wasn't like he couldn't imagine himself spending the night with another male⊠In fact he could which was part of the problem. Quinn wasn't someone who would turn away from a new experience so the idea of experimenting wasn't really what was freaking him out. What was freaking him out was that he didn't remember any of it. None of it. Did a drunk Quinn decide that girls weren't worth it and picked up a guy?
Did he like it?
With those questions buzzing around his head, a head that throbbed with each step he took Quinn had practically ran from the apartment. He might not have had a lot of time to think between work while he was away but he did realize he had been an a** to more than a few people, the guy he spent the night with being one of them. Hell, he didn't even know his name! It took a bit to backtrack his path from that day but the determined, and humbled, young man had found it.
Now standing there in front of an anonymous apartment door holding a huge bundle of flowers he wondered if he should have just let everything go and just forget it. Sadly he couldn't do that. Taking a deep breath he gently kicked the door, his hands were otherwise occupied with the flowers, and waited for someone to answer it. Damn it. He really did just want to drop the flowers and run. Maybe no one will answer and he could do just that.
Hopefully.

Luck however wasnât on Quinnâs side as Fai was in fact home. He didnât have anything keeping him occupied that day, unlike his siblings, so he had been home feeding his birds when heâd heard the kicking at the apartment's front door. âWonder who that is.â He whispered to his birds before sliding his hand from their cage and closing it he left his room.
Moving down the hallway, on slippered feet, he passed the closed doors to his siblings rooms and past the kitchen and through the living room to the entrance where were outdoor shoes were. Stepping down to where the outdoor shoe collection was he opened the door...and was greeted with flowers. The smell was..amazing but what was with all the flowers and the top of a blond head behind them.
âExcuse me? Can I help you?â

Quinn's hopes of a drop and dash were smashed when the door he was standing in front of opened. âUm,â he had a whole speech worked out but now that he was faced with a living person, not that he could see them from behind the bundle of flowers, the whole thing just flew right out of his head. âA few weeks ago I was here and, um, I justâŠâ He trailed off when he shifted the flowers enough to see just who had opened the door.
The green hair was pretty hard to forget. That morning in general was pretty hard to forget. His face paled slightly, he really was hoping to just pass the âsorry I was an a**â flowers off without actually seeing him but apparently karma was a real b***h today. âHere,â Quinn tried to pass the large vase over to the guy. If he was lucky once free of his flowery burden he could skip out. âThese are for you. Sorry I was an a**. I should probably go since you likely don't want to see me.â It was more or less the other way around. Quinn didn't want to have this conversation. He thought he was ready for it but faced with the reality he wasn't. Nope, not at all. If only he would take the flowers. Then Quinn could get out of there.

Taking the offered flowers, still unsure why the flowers, he nodded his head slowly. âYou know, itâs not polite to go assuming others thoughts and feelings.â He stated while holding the vase with a fair amount of ease, though he also had a face full of flowers. He wasnât exactly fond of the flowers in his face, and almost invading his mouth. âCome in.â He stated while giving a kick to the door so it opened further and the other could get inside as he was turning already and heading inside.
âHowâs your shoulder by the way?â He questioned glancing back over his shoulder at the blond. Golden eyes staring for a moment as he made his way into the living room. âShoes off before you step up - proper manners.â Even if it wasnât something the other was used to, something they didnât do in their home, it was proper manners in his family's apartment and it would be enforced. Heâd had friends in the past, while growing up, who got away with trotting about in their sneakers all about their home - it had shocked him. On his own feet were indoor house slippers, little white fluffy slippers. âExtra slippers in the small cupboard, or you can go in socks.â But absolutely no shoes past the step up.
âAlso, you werenât an a** - thatâs my job.â He stated tossing a sly smile over his shoulder. âJust ask my cousin.â Although it was also his job to be a pessimist, which he did a good job at, and be late for everything...something else he excelled at though he was working on it...still.

âUh,â Quinn just stood there for a moment, a bit dumbfounded. âFine. My shoulder is good.â Could he have hurt it the other night? His brow furrowed slightly as he entered and kicked off his battered sneakers, fishing around in the cupboard for a set of slippers. He didn't remember hurting himself and there wasn't a residual ache the next morning. The last time he really remembered hurting his shoulder was in that nega attack, much of the time after was hazy from drinking too much.
It took him longer to switch foot where so he scrambled to catch up, his shoes carefully put away behind him. âYeah but,â he winced as his mind saw a double meaning in the otherâs comment. Quinn didn't think he meant anything by it, Hell Quinn didn't mean anything by it when he had called himself an a**, but what if he did? He felt even worse now than he did before. He didn't even know the guyâs name!
âThat night a couple of weeks ago,â Quinn ran his hand through his hair trying to figure out the best way to say âsorry I don't remember sleeping with youâ without being a complete tool about it. âI don't⊠Remember much about it.â Or anything he silently added. âSo um, Iâm sorry ifâŠ. Well, if something happened.â He finished lamely. He just couldn't come right out and say it.

Setting the vase down on the glass coffee table he turned around to stare at the other. He seemed rather unsure of what to say, or what he was saying. It was amusing, if the smile the younger wore was anything to go by. However he decided to play nice, for once, and approached the other. âIâm glad your shoulder is well, Iâd hope it would be healed by now...itâs been months.â He said resting a hand on the others shoulder before walking by and heading for the kitchen to get a drink.
âItâs better you donât remember being a drunk idiot trying to fight a youma and than me. Though I did bait you a bit, as I said I can be an a**.â Shrugging his shoulders as he moved just a short ways down the hall in order to duck into the kitchen to grab a drink. Returning with two bottles, one water and one juice, he offered the water bottle to the other.
âI suppose itâs good you donât remember getting knocked to the ground, by me, and dusting a youma because it tripped over your downed self.â Yup, he could be an a** - but he was teasing if the smile was anything to go by. âI carried your here since I wasnât about to call my cousin and ask her if she knew where you lived. I also wasnât leaving you out in the rain while drunk and unconscious. So donât worry about anything happening - nothing did. Trust me.â Plus if nothing else heâd pin the other as being straight as an ruler, though he supposed he could be wrong.

Quinn was even more confused now. Did he know him? Could he be talking about that fateful fight? He couldn't think of any other time he had hurt his shoulder recently. His eyes nearly fell out when the guy started to explain what happened, Quinnâs jaw basicly on the ground as his mind tried to wrap around what he was being told. He absently took the bottle of water but didn't do anything with it other then clutch in his hands. âSo⊠So nothing happened?â
He absently sat down on a close by chair, an odd buoyancy in him. âSo I didn't⊠We didn't⊠Oh thank god.â Quinn let out a breath and it felt like a weight was removed from his chest. âThat's not what I mean.â He scrambled to explain once he realized what it sounded like. âI was just so horrified that I wouldn't have remembered not thatâŠâ He shrugged not finishing his sentence, not even sure how to finish it. âSo, I, um⊠A youma?â His mind seemed to catch up and realize just what the younger guy had said.
If he knew about youma there were only two options, one he was a nega but why was Quinn still alive unless he attacked a youma as a drunk civi or two he also was a order fighter. Either a senshi or a knight. That seemed so much more likely but still. âYou know about youma?â He asked quietly, trying to hedge his bets and be a bit more⊠sensitive about what he was really asking. After all just coming right out with his real question wasn't exactly the best idea.

Watching the other he almost felt sorry for him - almost. He did want to laugh though. The other thought...he had been that drunk? He had known the other was drunk but to not remember and think that? He knew the conversation had been headed that way, even before the other all but admitted to what heâd thought had happened, and he assumed thatâs why the flowers. While nothing had happened, thus the flowers as an apology werenât needed...he wasnât about to give them back - they were nice. âYou should take a deep breath and speak slowly. You really are mangling what youâre trying to say - though it is amusing.â He stated before uncapping his drink and taking a sip.
Seating himself he watched the other calmly and nodded once. âOf course, my cousin is a senshi - same as me. Though sheâd been at it longer. I was the one who used their shirt on your shoulder.â Rolling his eyes at the other. âAnd yes - you tried to fight a youma while fall over drunk. You got mad I jumped in to help as well...rather possessive. Had you behaved like that while sober Iâd have done worse to you than knocking you over as I did.â He was serious - he would have. He could have and would have laid the other out and left him bruised and battered if heâd been sober.
âKnight or not I wouldnât have cared. But, youâre better now and youâre here and Iâm rather hungry.â Which was no surprise as it was around lunchtime, he didnât care for cooking though. âSince youâre here perhaps youâd like lunch as well? It would be rude to send you off after you came here with such troubling thoughts in your head.â

âShirt?â It was like a light bulb had gone off in his head, before he was so focused on what he did or didn't do but now that he got a better look at the younger man he could have sworn he recognized him. Something was just bugging him about it but when the guy mentioned his shirt, along with using it on Quinnâs shoulder, that and being a senshi. It really was like lightning had struck. âYour that guy? Holy crap! Man that hurt like s**t, thanks for resetting it though.â His dislocated shoulder had been a serious issue at the time and while it had hurt like hell when the green haired senshi had reset it, it was better then not being able to see straight every time he breathed. Especially since they were in such a dire situation. It also didnât help that his injury was also the catalyst for his break up, he still didnât understand that one.
The smile that had formed on his face faded as he remembered that fight. It was also the reason he had spent weeks drinking, picking fights, and generally being an a**. He also apparently had thought it had been a good idea to go youma hunting⊠then got pissy when someone stepped in to help. Hanging his head slightly he apologized, âI really am sorry about that. I was really messed up at that point but it's really no excuse for my behavior. Not the fight or the next morning. You really did have every right to leave me there to sleep off the whiskey⊠I remember the whiskey at least.â Quinn looked up and gave a half smile before nodding, âyeah Iâm better now. No more booze for me.â He wasnât going to touch that stuff for a long while now. Not after everything.
Half smiling, half laughing Quinn shook his head, âNo, I wouldnât want to impose. I honestly just came to apologize before beating a hasty retreat. Didnât really think you would want to see my face anymore after I explained that I didnât even knowâŠâ He trailed off, not finishing his sentence, as he realized that he didnât know the young manâs name. They knew each other but Quinn honestly didnât remember if they ever introduced themselves to each other. He remembered him vividly from the fight, he even remembered him showing up at the meeting they had where Phact had shown everyone what those stupid stones could do but Quinn truly couldnât place a name with his face. âUm, so well this is embarrassing. Figured you would be peeved that I didnât remember your name but turns out I really don't. I have no clue what to call you and seeing as I owe you lunch at least for the shoulder reset let alone the dumbassery of the other night I got to call you something other than âhey youââ

âItâs fine, you donât want a shoulder dislocated too long. Itâll can swell and get hard to relocate.â Shrugging a bit. âIt hurts to get back in bit is best to do quickly.â Plus all the jostling it would have done during their escape...no heâd done what was best at the time. âIâm glad it healed well, though I figured it would have.â And he was certain if it hadnât his cousin would have said something, though what he didnât know.
âI would leave someone as drunk as you were outside like that - a sitting duck. My cousin would have my head for it, not to mention youâre still a knight and I understand people do stupid things when drunk.â Shrugging his shoulders at the other with ease. âIâm glad to know youâve stopped the drinking, it wouldnât have ended well had you continued fighting youma while drunk.â Of that he was sure.
As the other tried to back out of eating, only to backtrack, he shook his head laughing. âLeung FaiâŠ.though you would say Fai LeungâŠ. As a senshi itâs Cetus - senshi of kappa.â Though he doubted the other had a clue what a kappa was, most people didnât. He supposed that could give an advantage in a fight, no one would have any hint to whatever his magic may or may not be. Magic seemed to be based, in part, on your sphere and with his being kappa it paid to know what they were...at least according to all the stories and legends.
âCome on, lunch time then. Do you like Chinese?â He asked standing and stretching, taking a gulp of juice from his bottle before capping it. He figured the other would, most people did like Chinese, though he also wasnât planning what the other was likely used to when it came to Chinese food. He was thinking of something like what he grew up with...not the Americanized stuff. âAnd while weâre being honest...I donât know your name either...neither of them.â He was asking, fishing, for either of the blonds names. He wouldnât mind both so he knew what to call him in any sort of situation they might wind up in together, some big battle, or out for lunch like it seemed theyâd be doing soon.

Quinn chuckled and winced, âoh yeah I know. Ended up in the hospital the last time I dislocated it.â He had actually ended up in the hospital for the shoulder as well as the âdogâ bite when he tangled with a nega who had a pet youma. He still hated that little p***k. It took a bit of parental maneuvering to keep his parents in the dark, not to mention the cops who showed up since it was the cops he had passed out in front of. Honestly he didn't think he would have survived that night if a patrol car hadn't been dispatched to the area. The faded bite marks on his calf were a constant reminder.
âYeah well. Still. Thank you Fai.â He smiled even if it wasn't quite as bright as it had been. He absently fiddled with the bottle a bit more, keeping it sealed, before looking up as Fai stood up. âUh, yeah.â He shot a confused look at him before he mentally connected the two points, âyou have a place in mind?â He joined the other in standing, offering the sealed bottle back since he really hadn't been terribly thirsty to begin with. âQuinn. Arthur Quinton but everyone calls me Quinn.â Then in a move he had perfected while being powered he tipped his imaginary cowboy hat, âHavasu Falls, Pluto.â Glancing at the vase of flowers he had brought as a peace offering, âso kappa? What exactly is it? Mineral, plant, animal?â He asked, curious about the sphere Fai mentioned.

âYouâve dislocated it more than once.â Was the other accident prone or just have bad luck, and wind up in nasty fights? Shaking his head he smiled at the other, he really hoped he didnât have continuous bad luck like that...it was no good. âShould I be concerned for you? That you seem to have bad luck.â He questioned the other, trying to lessen his words with a teasing smile aimed at the other. He did not want to insult the other after all.
Setting the bottle on the table, his own joining it, he nodded once. âOf course. Want good Chinese food...ask a Chinese person. We always know...at least if you want authentic Chinese food anyway.â Shrugging his shoulders. As the other introduced himself he made a mental note of it, he didnât want to forget who the other was. He did want to pick up a few friends in this war, it was the best thing - make allies.
âKappa...are a Japanese yokai, I believe youâd use the term demon. Kappa are small.â Here he indicated the size of a small child. âGreen, yellow or blue skin and with a small dish of water on their head. They have webbed fingers and toes and live in ponds and rivers. Itâs said you can win their favor by feeding them cucumbersâŠ.and ensure they wonât ever grab you and pull you under and drown you. Some stories also say they drown animals, rape women and eat flesh...the stories range, as they do in all fairy tales and folk stories.â Others even said they looked up womens kimonos, which could fit in with everything else really.
âYou can of course, when confronted with a kappa, according to the stories win against them and even have them owing you. Think of the stories of Leprechauns. Only here think of the water dish on their head as a weakness. If the water is spilled or dries up the kappa is weakened or will die. If you get them to dump the water and you refill it...they owe you. They are known as good for irrigating land - crops and fields...and good healers.â He acted almost as if they were real...or as if they were believed to be real, and they were by some people. Some rivers and other bodies of water had signs about them in Japan, heâd read about it in his further studies on his own sphere.
Moving toward the front door as he spoke he stepped down and slipped out of his slippers and grabbing his wallet from where it sat on a table by the door he pulled on his shoes and started to tie them.

âThree times with the one you set. When I was a kid, in a fight with a nega, and by a giant youma. So really only once was my fault⊠completely at least.â Quinn shrugged and smiled. He couldnât really refute the whole âunluckyâ comment since he didnât seem to have the best luck. Sometimes he wondered if his life was just some twisted writerâs book who took enjoyment in ******** with him. Or like a Sims game where the player just torments him. âIâll live though. Although I might get a rabbit's foot or something to help with the luck.â
Quinn followed Fai towards the door, listening to him explain Kappas. âCool, but why cucumbers? I would think something else would be more desirable to a little water demon then cucumbers.â Unlike Fai, once Quinn got to his shoes he just slipped into them. Even tied his tennis shoes weren't too hard for him to get on, it just took a bit of tugging to make sure the tongue of the shoe sat right. âAnyway. Lead the way. Anyplace you want.â He would foot the bill, it really was the least he could do.

âWhen you were a kid? You make yourself sound old...and that youâve been involved for a very long time.â He stated, golden eyes looking over the other. He didnât seem that old, perhaps a bit older than himself but not by much. So why make himself seem old? Was it just that fighting so long made you feel older than you were? So he referred to his past self as a kid? That was a sad thing to think about. âThree times...I wonder why it seems to go so easily? Or does it seem to take the same force each time?â Maybe it should get looked at? âIt sounds like you need some sort of lucky charm - or several.â He said rolling his eyes at the other, though there was a teasing smile in place. He was serious though - the other had bad luck.
âThey like to eat cucumbers...along with, according to some stories, human flesh. The name kappa is taken from two words and means water child. I honestly donât know what my magic does, since I canât see it and Iâve not been hit with my own magic. But Iâve used it and the person was flailing all about...as if being drown.â So he assumed it played to the aspect of pulling people under water, to kill them, he doubted it was a pleasant feeling once hit with his magic.
âKappa being a Japanese thing..I guess my uniform decided to play to that...hence the look of my uniform and the geta.â Which he really did dislike, at best he could hit someone with them. He was certainly not going to walk or run, or jump, in them - ever.
Any place he wanted...well this would be fun. âNothing in particular you want or donât want? Do you like spicy food or no?â That would tell him if he was changing his mind or what he was doing for sure.

âWell the first time I really was a kid.â Quinn smiled and shrugged, âSecond wasâŠâ He paused and actually had to think about it, surprised by the answer he came up with. âLast year. It happened last year.â It felt like it had happened years ago rather then just months. So much had changed since then. âAs for why, according to the doc after the second one the more times it happens the more likely it is to happen. Kinda like twisting your ankle weakens the ankle so then it keeps happening. Itâs a really circular pattern. I just got to avoid anything that would lead to dislocation, like fighting.â He chuckled, trying to make a joke of the injury but knowing that he really did need to do his best to prevent any more damage to his shoulder since permanent injury was a serious risk.
âCool. You senshi are lucky you actually have a skill to fight with at first. All I had was some twine although my rope now is pretty useful.â He leaned against the wall as he waited for Fai, remembering just how useful the rope was. When the Academy floor was crumbling he used that rope and its properties to get people out, he was able to help a lot of people. And for that he got dumped. The amusement he had felt faded away as he remembered the confrontation he had once they escaped from that crumbling ruin back to their group. Trying to remain casual and relaxed, not really succeeding since his drinking was a direct result of that night which had led him here, Quinn pushed off from the wall to just stand there, hands in his pocket absently fiddling with his keys.
âNot really. Iâm up for just about anything, just not key lime pie.â He tossed out with a smile. He really wasn't one to turn away from new experiences⊠it was one of the reasons he couldnât have just dismissed the possibility that had brought him here carrying a huge vase of flowers.

âI thought that might be the case - that it would be easier in the future.â He said nodding his head. That wasnât an injury you wanted either, they hurt when they happened and when being put back into place. There was no avoiding it though, they needed to go back into place. âYou canât avoid the fighting. But itâs good if someone knows your shoulder is weak..in case it happens again. They can handle it.â Like he had during the exit from the Negaverseâs space. âI wonât tell anyone but if it dislocates again, especially during a fight, call me.â Heâd help in whatever manner he could. He did hope the other wouldnât come to futher shoulder injuries but it was a weak spot...it was likely to happen at some point in the future, he just hoped it would be far from now.
âI think we are all lucky we arenât dumped into this war with nothing, whether it be twine or magic. It would be worse if we just had a speed and strength boost and nothing else.â Although he at least had training on his side. He still knew heâd be ad a huge disadvantage for that. âI suppose for the twine...while itâs not helpful itâs a way of easing into things...crawling before walking and walking before running.â He answered as he finished tying his shoes and stood and made for the door. Grabbing his keys on the way out. Holding the door for the other.
âIâve never had key lime pie. Itâs rare that I like spicy food, but I am in the mood for it. Weâll get sichuanese foodâ

âThanks man. With luck it won't happen again but if it does, Iâll keep you in mind.â It wasnât a bad idea really. After all it would save him the need to explain the injury to the ER docs or poking an old friend who was a doctor and a knight. Granted he probably didnât do his shoulder any favors by only separately using the sling after that last time but at least it was ok now. âAnd I really canât argue with you there. Twine is better than nothing at least. It actually came in handy once as a garrote on a youma. Not my best idea but hey it worked.â He snickered as he remembered that fight. That fight where he ended up riding the youma like a bucking bronco. It had been a fight where he and Phact worked together to defeat a youma. It had been one of the first of many times they had worked together. It made the memory rather bittersweet for him so he was pretty glad for the change in topic.
âYeah well I personally canât stand key lime pie, its just nasty but to each his own so,â He shrugged and headed out into the hallway, waiting for Fai to lock up. âSichuanese? Like szechuan chicken? Cool.â

âUsing it as a garrote is a good idea. Iâd have used it on officers.â The idea of being choked might throw some off, make them not want to come back. You just had to get in close, and behind, the person in able to use it properly but heâd have tried if heâd been a knight with that as a weapon - it was useful in a way most wouldnât think. Quinn thinking of that was a good thing, and was impressive.
At the question on food, he ignored the comment on key lime pie as he was clueless about it. The other was right though - to each their own. âYes, like that...more chicken then peppers though. But Sichuanese food is about spice..floral notes..and more. China is a large country so each region has itâs own sort of food, and north vs. south as well. This food is from the region itâs named for and is known for the flavors I mentioned. I can order if you want to trust me with that. Iâll order some of the popular dishes, nothing too hot. I donât do heat often - I leave that to Seung.â A friend of his, who he didnât know Quinn knew, who liked spicy food. Koreanâs seemed to like spice...something he was hit and miss with, he had to be in the right mood.
Leading the way from the apartment and down to the ground floor and outside to the sidewalk. âWe can take a cab, walking will take a while.â Fai didnât want to make the other walk that far, also he sort of didnât want to walk that far himself right now.

âMaybe if you could keep them still,â Quinn muttered. Negaversers had the really unfortunate ability to pop in and out of existence which made fighting them trickier than wrestling a greased pig⊠and he really needed to stop leaving the tv on in the background when he was working. He apparently was picking up some strange a** phrases from whatever was playing, he had a feeling that particular mental saying was from Bones, that one squintern used a lot of southern colloquialisms. âSounds fantastic. Yeah Iâll let you pick the dishes since I wonât have any clue what's good or not. Seung also likes his Soju and let me tell you that boy can drink.â
Quinn knew that from experience since he had gotten drunk with the fellow knight and had been drunk under the table, it also didnât help that Quinn at the time had been mostly drunk on whiskey only to chase it with Soju when the South Korean knight offered it to him. Quinn didnât remember much after those first two shots, he really had no clue how he got home that day as well. Atleast he didnât wake up in a strangerâs bed. He kept his thoughts and memories to himself as he followed Fai down and out, palming his keys as they made their way into the bright sunshine.
Using his hand to block the light Quinn looked towards his car parked in the lot and hit the key fob making the shiny black car chirp. âWe can take my car.â It wasnât ostentatious, a very middle of the road kind of four door sedan, at least on the outside. The interior was where it was top of the line; leather seats, digital displays, all the bells and whistles. It was a compromise between him and his folks when he got back. They wanted him to go with a driver, at least until he was use to the city again rather than running around on his little scooter. He turned that down flat but caved when his folks suggested a car, one with one of the better safety ratings with a decent shelf life and track record. Besides it meant that it wasnât such a hardship running around to his various jobs, classes, and projects now. It wasnât bad running around in the summer on the scooter but when the weather turns cold it freaking sucked so he didnât argue too much about the car. It also didnât help he felt seriously guilty for the way he worried his folks prior to being shipped out of the city.

Surprised to hear the other knew Seung he nodded his head. Heâd never drank with him, since he was under age still, but he wasnât surprised to hear the other could drink a lot. âNot surprising...drinking is big in South Korea, so much so that itâs part of the culture. You go out with your boss or your friends and drink. I think I heard somewhere they drink more hard liquor than even the Russians.â And everyone knew the jokes about the Russians and vodka, including that they had clear bloodâŠ
âIâve never gone drinking with him, Iâm still underage for that. Iâm glad for that.â At least since it meant not going out with Seung to drink, and easily being drank under the table by the far more experienced South Korean native. âIâll try and keep the dishes tame..or at least away from certain areas most Americans wonât touch.â It seemed most Americans had issue with certain parts of an animal, whereas other cultures didnât...and he wasnât one to turn down good chicken feet himself. Heâd try and avoid the odder cuts of meat though, for the others sakeâŠ.but the feet...maybe not.
âOh.â Turning as he heard Quinnâs words he found himself staring at the car and nodded after a moment. âSounds good. Iâll give directions.â Making his way toward the others car, a smile in place, he looked over to the other. âSomehow Iâm surprised you know Seung also, but also not. Itâs a small world we all live inâŠ.â And he stressed âweâ when he said it. He meant senshi and knights. They lived in avery tiny bubble and to know others in that world wasnât too surprising. But to know Seung? He kept to a rather small group from what he knew.

âSo I found out.â Quinn winced at the memories, or lack of them, from that particular night, âGotta say I won't do it again that's for sure. Even if I was still drinking.â He slid into the car and waited for Fai to join him before it on, the muted purr of the engine audible even in the quiet confines of the interior. âMuch obliged. Iâm willing to try just about anything once but let's not go overboard today.â He glanced over at Fai and smiled before shrugging. It wasnât like he had been expecting to go out to lunch today, in fact he figured he would be holed up in his place studying by now.
Pulling out the sandy haired young man nodded, pausing only once to shoot a piercing look at Fai. He heard the stress word, could read the meaning behind it. It really was a pretty small world. At least that was one thing he wouldnât have to dance around, âvery much so. Seung will need a sweater come fall, and a jacket in the winter if he sticks to that little vest of his.â He kept his eyes on the road, quite aware that if Fai really did know Seungâs other job he would get the reference. If not⊠well then he just confused the hell out of the younger guy.

Getting into the car he nodded his head. He was sure some people could out drink Seung, he was still young and not an alcoholic or anything, so there were people who could do it. But it seemed Quinn wasnât one of them and he knew he wouldnât be when he could legally drink. âNo, I wonât go overboard, nothing insane or over the top.â Heâd keep the lunch tame for the others sake.
âHeâs not the only one, I have shorts...and what amounts to a t-shirt with sandals and socks.â Though he took the geta off each time. His clothing was not suited for the winter either. âI donât see why the uniforms are not at least somewhere in between capable of handling winter and fall while also being a bit on the cold side for spring and summer...or something doesnât change to adapt.â The fact they were as they were...it meant people like himself and Seung would freeze the further into the fall they went and when winter hit...he hoped it wasnât as bad as some in the past had been.
Shifting to sit forward in the seat he pointed out which turn to make when they reached the corner of his steet. âHave you ever been to China Town?â

âSome kind of cosmic joke? Maybe it's the universe's way of toughening us up.â He shrugged before adding, âstill sucks a**.â Quinn followed the directions Fai provided. âUm⊠question. Did you know you can add clothing after you power up? Like a jacket and stuff?â If Quinn hadnât been told by his old friend, who still occasionally wiped the floor with his a** whenever they spared, he would have been a miserable page once he realized that he wasnât going crazy. He actually wasnât sure if it was common knowledge that all you had to do was take the jacket off, power up, and put the jacket back on. The same concept worked with anything⊠from shoes to technically phones although now that Quinn was thinking about it keeping your civvie phone on you while fighting was just asking for trouble.
The drive didnât take too long, or at least it didnât seem like it for Quinn. âNope.â Even knowing that the city had a china town it was still kind of hard to image an area that was so singular in itâs personality that it felt like its own country. âAt least not this one. Iâve been through the one in New York but we didnât stay for food.â It had just been a few hours of poking around in touristy type shops before he was dragged off to dinner when he was a kid. The bright colors and seeming clutter had kept him quite entertained which had been the whole point.

âI assumed, but Iâve yet to. I figure I will have to when it gets cool enough out. Iâll just have to hope I can remove anything I add on quick enough in a fight.â That could be an issue, depending on what he decided to wear over his short uniform. It really left too much skin showing and would risk him getting sick - really sick. âI have a senshi for a cousin, Iâve learned a bit from her...not as much as Iâm sure I could though.â He didnât want to get into long discussions with her, if he did he might want to hide her away from things...or drag her to martial arts lessons.
âA lot of bigger cities have one...due to large population of Chinese, and other Asians. We tend to stay together due to shared religion, at least one holiday in common...and language. Itâs like when people first imigrated to New York. They would stay together amongst their own. We still do. My siblings and I might leave but for those who came from China, or another Asian country, they tend to stay. Itâs a slice of home...where behaviors and culture is understood.â And where the markets held what you needed, where people had the same manners and attitudes toward things. It was both good and bad, it kept them away from others and isolated to a degree but it also was safe and familiar. It made it easier to live in another country.
Being born here, in Destiny City, unlike his parents he saw both sides to it. They were content to live so close to China town because of the comforts it offered but at least they didnât live inside of the bright, loud, crowded China Town that he and Quinn were just entering into. The signs were mostly written in Chinese and had him pointing things out to the other and translating them. He didnât do it for every sign but a few, here and there.
âMake the right here, there is underground parking. The streets here are impossible to find parking on. I can cover. The restaurant is down the same block, just a few stores over from the underground garage. So we wonât have a long walk.â

She, however, has mostly taught me what a practice mat taste like.â He knew he would have to see her and her older brother. He knew he would have to step back into the fight but at the moment⊠Quinn couldn't stomach the thought of it.
With a nod he pulled into the directed lot, âmakes sense. Both parts.â He didn't elaborate since he had mentally sunk into his own thoughts, only moving on autopilot as he parked. âLead the way Fai,â he said as they both climbed out of the vehicle. He kept his thoughts to himself as the younger man wove his way into the streets of the bright âtownâ, Quinn following along like a duckling after his mother.
