Sully Erna's putting his sophomore solo album out, while Shannon and Tony are busy with a blues project. It's such a shame to see Godsmack is no longer the band's main priority, releasing albums every three or four years. Quite disappointing.

They could've done much more with the band these last twenty years. But they're supposed to be starting work on a new album early next year. Hopefully it's better than 1000hp. Personally, I'd like to see them revisit their original sound.

I hope their new album is better than 1000hp. I can honestly say that the songs were barely decent at best, and the production of them was marginal. They could have mastered their sound much better. The tracklisting as well needs to change up a bit. For the last three albums, they've had only ten tracks on the standard editions. A bit of a disappointment, but that's just me.

Honestly, I'd have to agree. 1000hp just wasn't as aggressive. Sully needs to get back into the negative mindset to pump out a good, raw and aggressive album, like the first three. Awake being their darkest album. Their live album wasn't too good either, because the mastering was far off.

Hopefully it won't be the usual four year gap we're forced to endure when it comes to their new album. If so, they need to release an EP of unreleased material or something of the sort to make up for lost time. It's the least they can do.

It's honestly ridiculous. I'm a HUGE fan of theirs, but they're proving to be disappointing as of late. I'd like to see a release of old unreleased stuff being put out.

"I think the general plan is gonna be to try to get together and start writing and recording by late next year," Erna says. "We could've done something this year and dropped it next year, but we thought it would be cooler to wait until [the 20th anniversary]. We don't know how much longer we're gonna go for; We may do another five, 10 records, or this may be the last one. But if we decided not to do it any more I Think a better way of being remembered is going out and doing a real theme-based show around the first album, play the whole first record front to back and then all the hits and the new stuff and the fun stuff. So that's why we're gonna wait; We'll record late next year and do an early 2018 release and then do a world tour with that."

"I really try to stay true to my art and stay true to why I write music. Because [the reason] I write music is that it’s therapeutic for me. It heals me, and it helps me enhance my good times and flush out my bad times.
But I’m not that same young, angry kid as I was when I was writing early Godsmack material. And so now Godsmack has become a little bit of a challenge because I go, okay, what am I gonna write about? ’Cause you can’t write too “happy” when you’re writing for Godsmack, but nothing is really making me super sad or angry. And so it’s gonna be interesting to continue.
And then when you’re onstage, you wanna be able to feel what you’re playing. But I just look at it as fun now. I have a good time when I’m with those guys, and I don’t really think about the lyrical content like I did once, where it took me to that time and place when I was that hurt from whatever it was I was writing about. So now it’s just fun"
Sully Erna on his future solo career.

Apparently, there's a second compilation album and a Restrospective DVD coming later next year. According to a new interview.

They just recently released "When Legends Rise" which to a lot of people would seem like their sellout record. I can see this, however Sully Erna desired a change in their sound and did a fantastic job on it while also introducing the band's first ballad. Favorite song off of this album would have to be "Eye of the Storm."
