easter, which is a name that stems from a fertility goddess's name, eostara who was celebrated around the first day of spring, is the one of the many pagan celebrations hidden unrealistically beneath the veil of christianity.
a few symboles to consider how christian they may be...
the easter egg: originally used by the druids at the ostara like celebrations of their own times, and painted red to celebrate teh fertility of the goddess, the earth, and of the animals and plants at this time. an egg being an obvious symbol of the womb, the red of the womb AND the god force, also of menstrual blood.
the rabbit:another fertility symbol, maybe having to do with jesus in some way i haven't discovered, but i doubt jesus had anything to do with your mom dressed as a bunny *that's the porn industry, not the church whee *
pastel colours are the colours of spring, the colours of maidenhood, which is celebrated at this time. a women coming into teh ABILITY to bear children and have fertility, and becoming pregnant, but not a mother. still a maiden. i don't see how this relates to the dramatic and violent death of jesus christ.

Yeah, many Christian holidays were scheduled to coincide with existing traditions.
It is not as readily noticeable now with many holidays. Except maybe All Saints/Souls day being immediately after Halloween, but that's just because Halloween is so overcommercialized. :p

Melon's Christian/Catholic, and Melon always knew that we stole and took other religoins holidays and twisted them into our own, but Melon always wondered how the hell eggs went with Jesus.

Have you heard Robin Williams' theory on why we have the easter bunny and chocolate eggs?
"You really don't want to go spooning raspberry jelly into the yard and tell the kids "Okay guys lets go find Jesus". And you really cant have creme filled crucifixes... "
....that would be rather phallic wouldn't it?

Actually, the only reason for Christian holidays to coincide with those of the Pagan religion, is that when Christians started to spread their religion, they wanted to make it easy for those who worshipped the Goddess to get used to...

yeah, cuz they couldn't stop them from celebrating their old holidays. better to make it seem like, "oh hey, that's how it is intended by god, ha-ha sweatdrop . go forth and celebrate... a lot less uprising that ways. teh celts are the worst/best in that. they kept brighid til the end, ha ha HA!!!
