Emily had been up since three am for some odd reason she just couldn't sleep. So she had taken to grabbing the five pound tub of cookie dough from Sam's Club and turning on Netflix. She had a few alarms set so she didn't binge watch through her work. Although her best friend would probably call her if she didn't show up. That was one of the many benefits of having your best friend as your boss. Another was the free cookies and cakes she occasionally received. Finishing the second episode in the BBC Sherlock she happened to glace at the time. She had an hour till she had to go into work. They didn't really have much of a uniform there, the only thing you had to wear was the apron, which was always at the coffee shop. Reluctantly closing Netflix she picked up her phone and sent a quick text to Cara her best friend. Why did you tell e to watch this show? It's amazing but two years between seasons! Grabbing a pair of jeans and a white tank top that said "My favorite flavor of cake is more cake" Checking her phone she saw a reply from Cara that was nothing but laughing emojis. Rolling her eyes she put her phone in her purse. She lived pretty close to the coffee place so she would just walk everyday.
Stepping in the back she saw her friend "If I didn't have to work today I would have finished all three seasons." Yes that was over thirteen hours, but she could do it. "Sorry you can finish it later." she heard back from Cara. "I hate you right now" she said while putting on the apron. She worked at a weird time today. Generally after the morning rush and then till five. She could live with it though. Other jobs before the coffee shop had her working even stranger hours sometimes.

BEEP, BEEP, BEEP, BEEP, BEEP…. The droning of Sawyer’s alarm clock woke him at five in the morning. The light had barely come out to illuminate the day, and the birds had just begun to chirp outside of his apartment window. The male groaned and pulled his pillow up over his head to block out some of the deafening sound, but it was no good. Finally, he slapped his hand down on the clock to silence it; a sigh of relief leaving his lips once he did. ’I need to get that damned thing replaced before I go deaf…’ He thought to himself, and then tossed his pillow across the room where it slapped against the wall, only to fall to the ground after. Sitting up and sliding off of his bed, he strode across the tiny bedroom to the wall across from his bed where a dresser sat. The room was small and cramped, but he didn’t have many worldly possessions to take up too much room, so he couldn’t complain. All he needed in there was his bed, clothes, and desk.
Reaching for the nearest tee shirt, a pleather belt, and a pair of plain blue jeans, he dressed himself rather quickly so that he could get a head start on his day. The shirt was just black, as he was not one to care much about fashion or fancy attire. Tee shirts, tanks, and jeans were all he needed. Those, and his favorite leather jacket- which he grabbed from the doorknob to pull on as he was leaving. He crossed the kitchen and living room to his apartment door, and quickly left to his destination: his favorite coffee shop. He had been there numerous times just to pass the time with a cup of Joe, and it soon had become his favorite place to be. Of course, that was partly because of a certain someone that worked there. He had never spoken to the mystery girl, but he always showed up with the intention to; not that he ever found the words to say. He was normally quite skilled at speaking to women, but there was something about this one that just sent his mind into a jumbled blur.
On this particular day, he stepped through the doors of the shop with a bit more confidence than usual. He walked right on up to the counter where… the woman wasn’t. Another woman worked the register at the moment he had come in. He sighed heavily once he saw her, and she seemed offended at first. ”Gah… I’m sorry, Ma’am. I just was hoping to talk to someone else. Wait- no. That’s not what i meant. It’s just that there’s someone else who works here, and-“ He cut off, his mouth agape, and just huffed. ”Screw it. I’ll have a cup of joe. No sugar or cream.”

Emily stepped out of the back and behind the counter right as someone finished ordering. She grabbed one of the coffee mugs "What was it? I can get it." she said to the new girl behind the register. She was really the only long term employee, the rest were usually college students looking for a part time job so they could pay for their tuition. Hearing what the order was she nodded. That was easy. Unlike some of the people who thought this was a Starbucks and tried ordering the most complicated drink ever. It was made, but very reluctantly, and all that extra flavoring and sugar and whatever else usually ended up costing more than their cheep horrid Starbucks drink. "Here you go, black coffee man." she said smiling and passing the mug to him. He came in here quite frequently. He usually got just a black coffee but he sometimes switched it up a little. She knew his name from the credit card he occasionally used but for allot of the regulars she would end up giving them some sort of name. No one seemed to mind it. Most would just laugh at the names she would come up with.

Seeing the woman he had come to speak to was like a wish that had been granted from some higher power. He almost gawked at her as she set to grabbing his coffee, and he struggled to find words to speak to her. A man behind him finally slapped him upon the back roughly. Sawyer jolted as the hit connected with him, and frowned as he turned to look back at the older male who had dared to touch him. Sawyer had a bit of a temper, but instead of becoming violent or defensive, he merely turned red in the face. ”What the He-" He began, but the man's words cut him off. "You're blowing it, man! Just talk to the girl already! It's damn obvious!" This only caused Sawyer's cheeks to heat up even more. ”Look here, Mister, I-" Again, he was cut off. This time, however, it was because of the woman handing him his coffee. ”Uh, thanks, Miss coffee woman." The man's hand slapped his own face in embarrassment for Sawyer's awkward words.
”I mean, well, whatever your actual name is. Speaking of... may I ask what it is?" "Look, buddy, I told you to talk to her, but some of us want drinks!" Sawyer clenched his jaw irritably.
”Or you could tell me it when you get off of your break? Maybe I'll be the one getting you coffee then?" He smiled sweetly then, and walked away from the counter backwards so he could still see her. His confidence was back momentarily, and he took it by the reins as he pointed in her direction on the way to a table. ”I won't take 'no' for an answer, by the way! I'll just sit here all night if I have to." He thought he was being smooth, but walking backwards had been the wrong move in this case. He backed up against the table, and nearly fell back onto it in the process; spilling some of his coffee onto his shirt.
"Sshhhhi-" He cursed a bit to himself, as red as a fire engine now as he quickly sat down in a chair and stared at the coffee- hoping she hadn't seen the whole ordeal unfold.

Emily smiled at his attempt. He tried that was what counted. She was about to give him her name so he wouldn't be as awkward the next time when the guy behind him started to get onto him. Watching him walk backwards to one of the tables she was about to warn him when he did exactly what she thought he might. Attempting to hide her laughter she grabbed a few napkins before walking over to him. "Here you go, these might help some." she said smiling to him. "I'm Emily I officially have a break around 1 but if it's really calm I sometimes get to go early." that would give him tome to go home and get out of the shirt he spilled coffee on. "Before I go back to work can I have the name of the guy who has been badly flirting with me today?" she asked. She wanted to have a little bit of fun with him right now. She had him so flustered just by giving him a nickname.
