Okay, not wanting to step on any toes here… But I have to ask:

Was there anyone out there who was just a little, teensy-weensy bit disappointed with movie 19? I'm aware that it showed off a LOT of Kaitou Kid and that there was some really great animation but as far as plot goes, I won't lie I was a little underwhelmed.

Please remember, I believe the movie had a lot of positive things going for it and I actually enjoyed it on some level. This is just my opinion on some of the drawbacks I felt it had and in no way is meant to be written as a way of attacking any Kaitou fans or issuing complaints against the company that brings us such great movies. This is just what my impression was after watching Movie 19: Sunflowers of Inferno.

The culprit's motive??? We had a great buildup, to the point where I was really looking forward to figuring out who the baddie was, until we actually get to the actual deduction. It wasn't as hard-hitting as it could have been. I loved the confusion on who exactly was the culprit but once we got to the motive I felt as if it lacked any real thought.

I was also, I won't lie, a bit upset over Kaitou Kid. I felt as if Ran and Shinichi's relationship was somehow cheapened by this movie. In all other instances in the manga, anime, and movies, Ran has always had a (visible) form of doubt on the identity of Shinichi when he's being portrayed by Kid. In movie 8 she had doubt in person (since it was Kid) but not when she was on the phone with Shinichi because she inherently knew it was him, even if she did doubt herself later, her initial reactions always give her feelings away. I just didn't see as much of that in this movie at all and it kind of twisted my stomach.

My other (and last) complaint was the feeling that I got from the movie. It honestly felt (to me) as if it was a movie that didn't set out to feature Conan as the main character. Undoubtedly he is of course but my lasting impression was that I had just watched a Magical Kaitou movie that featured Detective Conan. I might just be complaining for nothing but I've always loved the show's ability to balance between the two characters of Shinichi and Kaitou while always leaving that underlying signature that this is a Detective Conan feature. I would love to have a Magical Kaitou movie that's based around him but certainly not under the name of Detective Conan. I don't hate Kid for the record. He's my ninth favorite character in Detective Conan.

Just wanted to get other peoples opinion. Did any of you have any movies that you were a bit unimpressed with??

Oh man. The hype I've got for twenty is already more than enough to make up for 19. I'm so excited!! Black Organization cases are always so amazing to watch on screen!!
