He was doing this. What the gods was he thinking? He, Ricardo, mercenary extraordinaire, was going to be stepping onto the water death trap willingly. The only time he went on boats, excuse him, ships was when he needed to get from job to job. He put up with the sickness then. The jokes by that money grubber. But his reason this time was different. Ricardo loved the pirate captain. He also loved their other mate, his Mousers. But ever since Hanz and Mousey had their kids, he felt....He felt like he was on the outside looking in. Don't get him wrong. He treated the kids as his own. Sometimes it just felt like there was no time for him anymore in the family. The blame could mostly be put on him. He was always working, more to put distance than necessity. He just hadn't wanted to intrude on this little family. Let the kids adjust to the life. Let Hanz and Mousey have their time. Now Ricardo wanted his time. He didn't think the sailor would say no to a boat trip. That guy and his obsession with the sea. Ricardo could be surprised though. If he didn't ask, he'd never know though. So to the ship he was going. Now to see if it's captain was there....

Hanz was beyond grateful that his two daughters are grown up. Jacquotte was quite the handful and already wanting her own ship to command. Though she isn't ready fer such responsibility yet. She is still green behind the ears. Never having been through a tropical storm nor hurricane. Though he isn't one to dismiss her dreams. He's quite proud of that little monster along with his other daughter. Though he noticed the other mate of his has been busier than ever since the kids came. He missed that mercenary. Even if he can be stubborn and teasing. A small pang of regret on having letting things get the way they came to comes to him. Mousy and him had been focused on the kids and themselves that they didn't really realize that Ricardo might have felt pushed away. He moves among the brig checking things. His gaze turns to the hole in which they fixed recently which caused him to delay any legal work to fix the bloody thing. Water was spilling into the ship and he couldn't let his ship sink. So they had been in port for a few weeks. Taking the measures to do the job properly. His crew has started to get restless.. and te tell the truth so has he. Living on land has been nice but the sea has been calling him. He moves to climb the steps that will take him towards the deck of the ship. His goal for today to make sure the supplies for any journey be bought and loaded. He has no job offer. Though he could go steal some bounty off a ship. After all he is a pirate. Yet he doesn't want to leave without seeing Ricardo who had been gone on a job and hasn't come back yet. Mousy had been complaining about living at sea for so long and has been enjoying living on land. Considering that the cottage that he rents is paid up for awhile. He could probably go make a run and come back without it being such a big deal.

There it was. Ricardo couldn't understand ports. All twisty and winding. Like, what was the point? To confuse passengers who already paid so the captains could pocket the money? He wouldn't put it past them. Or at least past corrupt officials who looked the other way on crime. Could easily be ambush places to rob people too. In the end he found it though....after asking somewhere where it was. He really needed to make more of an effort to study the ship more. Looking at it, he could see a few things that he did recognize, having walked up to it plenty. Actively looking for it on his own lost him though. To Ricardo, there was only so many colors for a ship. So many bulkheads. Unless someone painted theirs a bright red to stand out, he couldn't tell the difference from outward appearance. Once on the ship though he'd be alright. That part he knew better. He was tempted to just walk on up the gangplank and onto the ship, just to piss people off. He was one of the captain's mates after all, and a regular employer for the crew. It wasn't like he was there to steal stuff or cause trouble for them. He understood though that the rules of the ocean were different than the rules of the land, so he stopped at the base of it. "Ahoy the ship! Permission to come aboard?"

The firstmate was the first to notice Ricardo as the other called out. Yet the other didn't even have to yell to know that the captain heard the other. Already knowing what the captain would say he is about to reply when he hears the sound of feet running. He turns to see Hanz running up the steps from below deck and chuckles as his captain continues to run.
Hanz hearing the other's voice starts running. Joy and relief going through him at hearing Ricardo's voice after so long. He runs above deck and jumps off the railing grabbing a rope before swinging onto the dock. Eyes alight with excitement. A big grin on his face as he approaches the other." Oi! What took you so bloody long! Ye don't need teh ask fer permission. Yer my mate. Askin's for someone not my mate or crew." He reaches the other and hand reaches out and cups the others cheek before he kisses him. Not able to control himself from not kissing the other after such a time apart. Pulling back he looks at the other accessing whether he is injured or not. Satisfied that the other doesn't seem to have any obvious wounds on him. Hanz smiles." I missed ye! You've been gone fer awhile. "

Ricardo laughed as he watched Hanz’s entrance. “Friggin’ show off.” Even if the idea turned out to be nothing, it was worth it to see the other’s face. His own had a wide grin, a more serious than joking one, his own eyes full of happiness. “Still the same idiotic water rat aren’t you? Couldn’t go down the ramp like normal folk could you? Had to go make a spectacle of yourself.” Had to make a spectacle of them, the way he carried on. Not that he would have ever said no to the kiss. Never, ever no to kisses, public or not. At least the passion was still there. Ricardo had been worried about that. That parenthood had changed that. Once distance was put between them he shrugged. “With it being so long I didn’t know if you still had the same crew or not. With your silly thieves rules I didn’t want to get shot or run through by someone new who didn’t recognize me. And I would have hated to have killed one of your crew if that happened.” The mercenary did look a little sheepish as it was pointed out how long they were apart. “Yeah well, work and all that. Honest work. Not that you scoundrels would know a thing about that. How many people did you hustle out of their livelihood while I was gone hm?”

Hanz grins and nods."Yep! I am the same water rat that you happened to fall in love with. You can't say that you didn't take some pleasure in seeing me act in such a way. Admit it. You liked it." He laughs." I could have.. But would have probably tripped and fell off into the water instead of getting on the dock. Nah. The rope was more fun and less chance of getting in the water." He looks up at his crew who are still chuckling at their captains antics." Ach, ye really think they woulda changed ships? Nah. They be loyal. An no new recruits. Indeed killin one of me crew would be mighty tragic... maybe.." He shakes his head about honest work." Oh Ricardo. Ye know I do honest work sometimes.. Just.. not all the time. " He curses at the next question and glares at the ship." None. Bloody hole in the ship had ta be fixed. Had to stay in port and even take her on land te fix her this time. Friggin coward of a navy officer shot a cannon at us while docked. A mess o' water and everything. So have been getting a bit land crazy. Coward ran away from when I confronted him. Refused to fight. b*****d." Mutters other profanities about the navy officer. Definitely not happy about the lost time and income.

“I might possibly have liked seeing you looking like the fool yes. Considering you could easily have lost your grip on the rope and fallen into the water or broke your neck by landing wrong if you did.” He gave a two fingered salute to the crew, recognizing the faces now that he took the time to look. “Maybe tragic? I wonder how they’d feel about that, them being loyal and all. Perhaps I should tell them you said that and maybe give them some leverage over you. Like say telling them the truth behind the wood carving I made you. I wonder how much ‘honest work’ you’ll get if people know how soft hearted the captain is.” His worry over whether it was a good idea to go out sailing after repairing a hole was quickly, violently, replaced by overwhelming anger as he heard what had happened to Hanz. Ricardo might not have been acting like it lately, but Hanz, and thus the ship and the crew, was his. No one ******** with what was his. “Do you know what officer it was?” His hands clenched into knuckle whitening fists, since he couldn’t draw a sword and kill the b*****d who attacked the pirates. Maybe if they knew who it was he’d find others with a quarrel with the guy. Get a contract to legally kill the guy. Sounded good.

Hanz chuckles and shakes his head."I know ye would." He chuckles and looks up at his crew." Get back te work you scally wags!" He turns back to Ricardo after hearing footsteps along the top deck."They already know I am not the strictest nor toughest captain. But they know I get te job done and I care. Rather than work them to da bone. Me reputation is more on my success rate of getting stuff transported. The rest they turn a blind eye. Mostly." He tilts his head as he see's the other become angry. He takes the other's hand and holds it." I do. But I ain't gonna tell ye. You'll figure a way to get a contract to kill him. He's a coward. He will deal with his crimes someday. Being te coward that he is. Cowards don't last long on te sea. She is a mean mistress."

“Mostly being the keyword. Because I seem to remember a certain captain worrying about being made fun of if his crew found out he liked bunnies. And got angry at me for making him a rabid bunny carving because of it.” He looked at the pirate in surprise as Hanz refused to tell him the naval officer’s name. “She might be, but I’m sure the sea wouldn’t mind some help from mortals. And I wouldn’t take payment. Having his head on a platter will be enough for me. Any money can go towards the families of those who weren’t fortunate enough to survive what dirty tricks he played. Just tell me his name. I’ll go make an example out of him. Let everyone know that they will not mess with my pirate and his crew without consequences. We can go on a trip together once I get that contract. Take him out together.” Why wasn’t Hanz telling him? Ricardo was going to find out the name one way or another. And the longer it took him, the less patience he’d have with getting a contract. Ricardo might just end up being tempted to murder the guy outright instead of a legal killing.

Hanz watches Ricardo and sighs. He knows the other and he knows the other won't rest until he gets this guy. He moves to walk onto the ship." Aye that may be true.. But I still don't seek fer blood teh be on me hands fer getting him killed. Nobody but me ship were harmed. She be fixed now." He goes into his office and looks at Ricardo. "Ye close the door behind ye. I won't be talking about this to the crew." He sits down and runs his paws through his hair." Captain Niel Cormwell of te ship Liberty. I won't be killing tah man. But if that is a direction in which ye want to partake then ye will do as ye will. I know ye well enough to know ye stop at nothing when it comes to business and personal matters."

Ricky followed Hanz, his boots making probably a sharper sound than intended in his anger. "Why? Don't want your crew mutinying and following me to go kill the son of a b***h?" Nevertheless he closed the door and faced the pirate. "He might have just hurt your ship this time. But it means something to you. And next time? You might not be so lucky. Think about your family now. It's enough that you and I are in dangerous lines of work. If something happened to either of us, what would that do to the other? To Mousey? And you've got kids now. This can't go unpunished because if he comes after you again, you might not get lucky next time." When a name was finally given, Ricky went around and hugged Hanz. "Thank you." He filed it away for when he finally got out there to start the hunt. "This is more personal than business. I'm doing it for us. For our family to stay together. Because you told me the name I'll be nicer and maybe just maim him. Make him lose something that's precious to him. Like his eyes. Maybe his legs too. Or an arm and a leg. Make him learn what it's like to be a peg leg." Yes he wanted blood. He couldn't understand why Hanz wasn't. Since the pirate was giving him a name though, the merc could compromise and not kill the guy. But a lesson did have to be taught.

Hanz looks at him and sighs when the other started off with that comment." Because I don't want them to all go teh jail before we can set sail! I can have a ship but it would still need a crew." He listens to Ricky and lets his words sink in. He hadn't thought of that part.. He feels bad for not having thought of that. He hugs back and shakes his head.
"I don't care if ye kill the coward. I care about getting laid. Telling ye is the easier route teh staying on ye good side. Yer bad side doesn't get me sex." He is blunt about it. " I understand it is personal cause it is. I do want teh kill him but at the same time as ye said. I have family. I can't go about killing a guy at port and get locked or hanged fer it."

Ricardo grimaced at Hanz's reasoning for not wanting his crew to go. "That's not as fun as my way. What's a good pirate story without a mutiny? At least my reason would have you be the one for once locked up with the demonic cat of yours." He still hadn't forgiven the pirate for that stunt. He had no problem with Hanz leaving him and Mousey in the hammock. But he could have taken that damn cat with him too. That he couldn't forgive. It really irked him too that the cat acted like a saint to Hanz as well.
He also probably should be mad at how easily Hanz thought he could get the mercenary's favor like that. As if simply telling him what he wanted would get the other laid. However, since Ricardo didn't come here to fight, he'd let it slide. He did pull away though at the word 'port', ignoring why Hanz didn't want to attack and kill the naval officer. "You know where he is don't you? He's here isn't he?" He started to pace back and forth in the cabin muttering. "No. No. He'd probably would have arrested you already if he was. But....depending on how bad the attack was, this might have been the only port." So then the man would know Hanz would pull into this port for repairs. On the other hand, it could simply have been that Hanz meant port in that it would be whatever port they would find the coward. Because on sea, if the Liberty sank, there would be no survivors no doubt to spread word to ports after the fact. So then there would be no hangings or jail.

Hanz is about to defend his cat when he closes his mouth and lets out a sound. He can't exactly deny that his cat isn't a demon ish creature.. Well to others. His cat loves him. Goodness knows Ricky and Mousy have complained about his cat a lot. But come on... Seriously? He looks at Ricardo." My cat is fine with me. He doesn't attack me.. He just.. seems to have problems.. with others." He clears his throat and inspects his knife intently. Seeking distraction.
He blinks at the question and looks at him." No. I don't know where the officer is. I know that the Liberty isn't in port anymore though. So unless we come across them.. or figure out where they be headed. Well it might be a bit before ye can kill the b*****d. And I don't want no Mutiny! I like me spot with me crew!" He pouts." Why ye want my crew to cry mutiny on me? Ye think I am not a good enough capt'n?" His eyes stares straight at Ricardo. " If ye think I am not a good capt'n. then spit it out. I don't go about tellin ye how to go about yer job Ricky." At this point getting a bit annoyed.

Ricky's smirk at Hanz agreeing about the cat, in Hanz's way of course for he never would talk bad about those he loved, faded at the pirate's annoyance. "God damn it Hanz. It was a jest! I've never told you how to do your job and I'm certainly not going to start now. Your crew is unwavingly loyal to you. I doubt they could be bought or convinced to mutiny. They're as much your family as Mousey, the kids, and I are. I had been joking because I figured with that loyalty they would have had no issues with going with me to hunt down your attacker to protect you."
He walked to the door and paused, turning around to face his mate. "You know, I came here to see if you'd want to go away together. Just you and me. A trip of relaxing without either of us working. Not even an hour together and we're reduced to fighting. I wonder what days on the water would be like then, with neither of us able to go that far away from each other." He wanted to stay. Wanted to further rekindle what they had, or add more fuel to that fire that had never gone out. No, not wanted. Needed. He had been so lonely on his self imposed exile. But he didn't want to spend the time fighting either, no matter how mad he was feeling.
