There are many who come to the islands. Some to get away, some to find their fortune. One couldn't ask for a better paradise to spend their days. However, unless you have the cash, the islands can appear just as harsh as a hurricane. The good thing about starting from rock bottom is that all you can do is aim for the sky and hope you make it to the surface.

Standing on the edge of the dock, looking out at what she hoped wasn't the right address, Gigi sighed. It wasn't anything like what her travel agent at advertised, even if she had no choice. It was the only thing she could afford, and that was stretching it.
"Well, I can't turn back now," she muttered to herself as she grabbed her backpack and began the unsteady walk to the Cockle Shack. "Even if I wanted to."
She had traveled a long way and the jet lag was already making her feel out of sorts as she came upon the door.
"Maybe once I get settled I can take a nap," she mused as she scanned the bamboo walls. She was more than a little skeptical of its integrity, but hoped that it was sturdier than it looked.

Jet had made it into the house before Gigi and was almost devastated when he had found out how much of a dump it was. He was glad to have a house to live in especially one by the beach, but it had lots of problems. "At least it is better than the streets, but... How can it be this bad in shape?" He says to himself as he finishes unpacking in the three bedroom, one bath, one dining room, house. The third room belonged to the house owner so he assumed he would have one more room mate. Hearing the door open he thought it was the owner herself so he ignored it and layed back on the mat of a bed and stared at the ceiling, leaving his door open.

Gigi let herself in when she realized the door wasn't locked, worried that her key might not work. Her dread hit her hard as she adjusted to the inner living room. Stomach knotting, she got the distinct impression that the owner was a fisherman. There were half finished attempts at a nautical theme, with holey fish netting hanging on one wall and buoys weighing it randomly. A discarded life vest was propped against a bundle of fishing poles.
Taking a deep calming breath, she continued to explore the rest of the space.
"It's ok. At least it looks like the place is dry," she murmured trying to stay positive as she walked into the kitchen. Eyes widening, the knot eased a little. Despite the state of the rest of the place, it seemed that the kitchen was modern and well cared for.
"And just look at that view," she awed as she looked beyond the dining table out to the empty wall that turned into a deck on the water. Taking a few steps, she just took in the sight.
"That almost makes up for the smell of old fish."

Jet had heard a different voice then normal and so he stood up, went out of the room, and looked into the kitchen to see the new person. She was an otter which was interesting as he had never met one before.
Walking a bit closer, but not so close as to surprise her he started to speak. "Hello? Are you looking for the Owner? If so he has gone out fishing, I am not sure when he will be back."
He wasn't sure if she was the other resident or not and if she was then he hoped she wasn't hostile person or anything. He hated having to live with new people as he always feared of a bad roomate or someone he wouldn't get along with.

Jumping at the sound of someone behind her, Gigi immediately folded her ears back and bared her teeth in defense. Seeing the fox, she settled. She could tell by his smell that he wasn't the owner. Then after hearing his greeting, she nodded her head.
"Yea I forgot that the place was being rented out by the room. I'm Gigi, I hope I didn't scare you. What's your name?" She didn't know why she was worried that she had scared a predator, but this one just didn't have the air of danger that most had.

When she jumped and bared her teeth it surprised him, not enough to put him in defense or a stature that would say it. He looked more relaxed than anything. He wondered why she had felt threatened in the first place. It wasn't like he had hid his presence or showed any form of violence.
"No, no don't worry, I am used to that kind of treatment as you can imagine, even if I am on the lower end of the predator side. I hope I didn't scare you, I was only trying to introduce myself." Jet says smiling at her and trying to seem nice at the least.
"My name is Jet, I take it we are roomates, I hope we can get along and not have any issues. Let me know if I can help you out somehow, this place is kinda breaking down and there are bound to be problems."

Abashed at her behavior, Gigi nodded. She hoped he didn't take it personally, especially when he was doing his best to be so unassuming. With a sigh she looked back out at the crystalline waters.
"Well at least there's one good point about the place, am I right?" From there she wandered throughout the rest of the place in search of all the amenities.
"So what brings you here to the island Jet?" Her room as it happened, was no smaller than she'd expected and happily fish fragrance free. Tossing her bag on the unadorned bed, she continued to familiarize herself with the layout of the place until she found the bathroom.
"Sorry, but excuse me a moment. I've been on a plane for too long and I'd like to use a restroom that didn't feel like a honey bucket." And with that, she darted into the bathroom, shutting the door gently.
A few moments later, she walked out feeling much more refreshed and able to handle the challenges that lay ahead.

Jet was surprised when she asked a question and then went into the bathroom. Waiting for her to return, he went over to the couch and sat down stretching his legs and arms yawning, fangs slightly showing. When she returned he looked over at her and answered her question. "Welcome back, I came to this island as it had really good price for where we are. I expected a shack honestly." He says with a chuckle Looking around again, it wasn't that bad and no leaks. "I have my own reasons as to why I came to the island though. So why did you pick such a place to live? An old creaky house with an old fisherman as a manager and a Fox as an inmate can't be what you wanted." He says knowing that not every creature liked predators.

" I wanted to taste more from life than the stale waters of the lake I grew up on," she answered, walking over and sitting on the armrest of the couch. She wasn't scared of the fox and wanted to make sure that he knew she wasn't. The last thing she wanted was to make things awkward between them from the get go.
She noticed how vague he was when she asked why he came to the island, but didn't think much of it. Some people just wanted to drift, find their way along the tide of life. And some people just aren't naturally open. Gigi figured the fox was more the later than the former.
"I'm glad this place was such a steal, because I don't have much money yet to afford anything else," she explained, rubbing her hands together. "But I have a plan to change that."

So you have plans to make it big in here huh? That's always a good thing I guess. I don't have any large plans, but I do have some ideas to make some good money." *He says with a sly grin. "I am glad it was cheap as well, I didn't have much money leaving from where I came and I even thought about living on the beach if I couldn't afford the rent you know what I mean?" *He says knowing times were hard, especially for animals their age. He wasn't sure how old she was, but she was sleak, slender, and looked young enough to be about his age.*

Gigi smiled at his proclamation of making money. With a place like this as their starting point, she was sure they'd be able to achieve their goals.
"Well I wouldn't say that I'm going to be a superstar or anything, but when you're scraping the end season's guts off a butcher block, anything looks better." Licking her lips, she looked towards the kitchen. I wonder if its already stocked? she thought as she wandered in to inspect the contents.
Returning with a triumphant grin, she handed Jet one of the two sodas that had been about all that was salvageable from the fridge.
"Good luck to us both then. I have a feeling we'll need it," she replied, holding up a soda in toast.

Taking the soda and clacking it against hers lightly as though to say I agree in an old fashioned hurrah. Opening the can he takes a swig and can feel the cool, refreshing, burning sensation as it goes down his throat. "Ahhh it's so good. We are gonna need to restock for the owner of this place. I haven't even met him or her yet how about you? Know what he or she is like?" He asks looking around seeing the absence of pictures. "I only traded information through the letters and used the ad in the page to even find this place. Hopefully the owner is a nice guy. Who knows, we might end up being in the care of a turtle." He says wondering if this person is going to show himself maybe later tonight or is just on an errand real quick.

"Actually, I haven't seen him yet either," Gigi admits with a light laugh. She looked around the place again, imagining what sort of person had a place like this.
"I delt with him over the phone, so I know he has a rough sounding voice. He seemed nice enough, but that might have just been because he was happy someone was going to take the room." As she looked out at the water, she felt the overwhelming urge to go for a swim.
"You like to swim?" she asked as she set her drink down.

"Well he can't be too difficult bad of a guy to accept two strangers into his home right?" He once again finds himself wondering what the man looks like. Maybe anot old turtle, or a mature rough shark, even a seagull with an attitude to match the voice, but he wouldn't be sure or rest really until he met the man. It was almost the end of the day and the sun was still up, but soon to set meaning high tide and the water would cool down a bit in about two hours. "Sure I'd love to go swimming, but we are gonna have to make sure not to go too far out since it high tide I've been told comes in a little bit after sunset. Also should we get some snacks from the local food stands before heading out in case we get hungry Gigi?" He asks happily playing with his tail. He did so when not sure what to say or a bit nervous. It was their first time hanging out and he wanted to make friends especially with his house mate.
